Cats part of the Lucky Lucy Foundation now have a newly kitted-out retirement oasis to live out their golden years!
Malmesbury, South Africa (09 January 2025) — Like any retired individual, cats who have lived all nine of their lives to the fullest need an oasis, a haven to rest, relax and purr with gossip as they enjoy their golden years.
The Lucky Lucy Foundation recently took to upgrading a portion of its facilities with older cats in mind. Dubbed ‘alCATraz’, the newly revamped area boasts new gentle spaces of shade, flower beds and herb gardens.
The retirement oasis for the older cats was largely made possible thanks to the Lucky Lucy community coming to the party.
“Thanks to [this] support, our cats now enjoy the comfort of an additional space they can call their own—a place of peace, safety and love in their golden years,” the foundation shares.
While alCATraz has felines in mind, Lucky Lucy as a foundation serves both cats and dogs. After its founding members came across a pregnant dog tied to a railway line later named Lucy, the idea for the foundation came to life.
The NPO founders realised that many shelters can’t take in animals due to the length of the rehabilitation necessary for them to heal. As such, they stepped in to give more four (and three) legged friends their lucky break in life or the ‘No Hope Left’ animals, as the Lucky Lucy team put it.
As for the retirement oasis, the team graciously accepts any extras to kit out the space even more. Any pre-loved items in the niches of garden furniture, ornaments, pots or decorative items are welcome.
