Per a report by SquareYards, Mumbai has seen some outrageous property deals taking place amidst the covid-affected economy. In Mumbai, the property prices are a result of the experience and the opportunities the city offers. The prices might be seeing an upward movement, but the property acquisition is not slowing down. Especially for the rich of the city.
Bollywood celebrities, who make for some of the richest in the city, have bought properties for an amount surpassing the Rs 100 crore mark. Hrithik Roshan treated himself to a set of three flats in a suburban tower in Juhu, with a dream to build a duplex, while Alia Bhatt got herself an apartment in the same building as beau Ranbir Kapoor, in Bandra, for around Rs 30 crore plus.
According to CNBC, Amitabh Bachchan and Sunny Leone have also invested in lavish properties in Mumbai’s suburbs. Amitabh Bachchan splashed Rs 31 crore on 5,700 square feet of prime luxury real estate at The Atlantis in Oshiwara, at Rs 54,348/sq ft. Making it the #18 most expensive property purchase in Mumbai in 2021, so far. Sunny Leone, however, got a better bargain than Sr. Bachchan. Per CNBC, she acquired a luxury property in the same building for Rs 16 crore. Registered in the name of Karanjit Kaur Vohra, it spreads across 4,365 square feet and was signed off at Rs 36,665/sq ft.
Maharashtra cabinet minister Ashok Chavan was the one noticeable politician on Square Yards’ list. Chavan spent Rs 27 crore on a relatively smaller 3,660-square-foot apartment at Swapna Lok on Malabar Hill.
All in all, properties worth more than Rs 4,000 crore were sold in Mumbai in the first six months of 2021. Interestingly, most purchases were made between January and March to avoid the extra 3% on stamp duty post March 2021, per the SquareYards report.
