Our Editorial Process

Our mission is to inform and empower you with accurate, empathetic, and actionable health information so you can make the best choice for your health. The integrity of our information is crucial to us. That’s why it’s important to share how we create content to help guide your health choices and decisions.

We rely on diverse voices

Health provides you with the highest quality health and wellness content—produced by humans, for you. It is against our editorial guidelines to use artificial intelligence (AI) writing tools, such as ChatGPT, to create the content published on our website.

Our goal is to bring fact-based health information to all people regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, religion, culture, and ability. We’re dedicated to creating content that reflects a variety of backgrounds and experiences. We don’t shy away from addressing health disparities among different populations, and we know that one person’s experience navigating their health can be vastly different than that of another person from a different group. All experiences should be reflected in our content.

Our editorial team members are seasoned pros

Each piece of content is edited by our team of highly skilled editors who have deep health journalism experience. Our content and our editors are not influenced by advertisers or sponsors. Nothing goes on our site unless it’s accurate, empathetic, and inclusive, and it addresses the topic at hand in plain language.

Medical experts review our content

Our team of board-certified physicians and other medical experts review content for medical accuracy, relevance, and timeliness. A medical expert will confirm a piece of content is thorough and contains facts and guidelines that reflect the latest in research. When the content meets these standards, they will sign off on it. When we publish it on our site, you’ll see their name and “reviewed by” under the headline, so you know an expert in that field has approved it.

We verify all sources and citations

Our editors and fact checkers verify facts, claims, statistics, and recommendations in our content by reviewing research journals, government websites, and medical organizations. When we are sure of the accuracy of the statement or data, we’ll include a link to the information or cite it in the article. This way, you can see where it comes from and know you can trust the original source.

We report current events in a responsible and relatable way

Every piece of news we publish is based on accurate and thorough reporting. Our news coverage provides you with the right context as to why a new study, guideline, trend, or question is relevant to your health and well-being. We ensure this trustworthiness in our news content by relying on seasoned health journalists, credentialed medical experts, dedicated editors, and thorough fact checkers. We don’t simply tell you what’s going on in the world of health and wellness—we explain why it matters to your life and the lives of those around you.

We update our content

Health and wellness content is ever changing, and content integrity is very important to us. That’s why we make it a priority to regularly review and update content to ensure that content is up-to-date, answers the questions people are asking, and make certain it meets the new higher standards.

We want to hear your feedback

If you have a comment, question, or suggestion about our editorial process or a specific piece of content on our site, we’d love to hear from you. Share your thoughts with us at contact@health.com.
