Autograph Letter signed: "JK" in black ink. One page. 6¾x9¼. On personal House letterhead. Place: Washington, D.C.No date (but date stamp on verso: "1980 Jul 25". To "Pat" [Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan]. In full: "I'm sure busy writing you thank you letters. Once again thanks for a very generous remark you made to Max Mc Carthy of the Buffalo Eve News (7-22) about my speech at the Convention. All my best Pat,". Jack French Kemp (1935-2009) was an American Republican politician, collegiate and professional football player. He served as Housing Secretary in the administration of President George H. W. Bush from 1989 to 1993, having previously served nine terms as a congressman for Western New York's 31st congressional district from 1971 to 1989. He was the Republican Party's nominee for Vice President in the 1996 election, where he was running mate of presidential nominee Bob Dole; Kemp had previously contended for the presidential nomination in the 1988 Republican primaries. Jack Kemp was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2009 by President Barack Obama. Daniel Patrick Moynihan (1927-2003) served four terms in the U.S. Senate (1977-2001) as a Democrat representing New York. A prolific author, Moynihan held positions in the administrations of four Presidents: Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon and Ford. Estate inventory numbers stamped in left and top margins. Ink stamp on verso shows through faintly. Otherwise, fine condition.
