The Dress: A sculptural yet classic black one-shoulder number by Max Mara.
The Wearer: Jennifer Garner, the brand’s new face.
The Event: The July 18 New York dinner celebrating Garner’s new ad campaign for the fabled Italian house. In a testament to the brand’s changing image, attendees included a slew of PYT It Girls including DJ Harley Viera-Newton, model Atlanta de Cadenet Taylor, actress Nora Zehetner and Solange.
Why We Dig: Looking at photos of Ben Affleck‘s other half, it’s easy to see why so many find her so utterly relatable: She always looks real. Whether dropping one of her adorable children at karate class clad in a plaid button-down and Red Sox hat or leaving the Brentwood Country Mart in jeans and loafers and with baby in tow, she always looks like someone you’d strike up a conversation with in the Starbucks line. And her formalwear choices are no different, with a non-intimidating arsenal of “regular people” gowns (albeit by not-so-regular-people designers such as Gucci and Roland Mouret) that are simple, elegant and feel somewhat friendly. And at Bill’s Food & Drink in Midtown Manhattan on Thursday night, the actress kept her standard approachable style intact with a classic black cocktail number by Max Mara. So much so, in fact, that it’s almost easy to imagine Garner readying for her evening while her daughters stood watch, playing with her pearls, perfume and lipstick and asking Mommy to please hurry home.
