Steve Jobs Movie Still - H 2015
The latest look at Universal’s highly anticipated Steve Jobs biopic, written by Aaron Sorkin, has debuted online.
The trailer follows a minutelong teaser, released in May, that mostly consisted of audio from Michael Fassbender‘s Jobs and Seth Rogen‘s Steve Wozniak, accompanied by an image of the back of Jobs’ head as he stood on a stage looking out at an empty concert hall.
The full-length trailer offers glimpses of Jobs’ abrasive management style and singular vision; his troubled relationship with the mother of his daughter, and the girl; and his growing popularity as it follows his rise and fall at Apple.
The preview starts off with some of Wozniak and Jobs’ audio from the teaser, in which Jobs compares himself to a conductor, over scenes of Apple’s rise and Jobs overseeing new product launches.
Sorkin’s script, based on Walter Isaacson‘s biography, is said to focus on three presentations Jobs gave that defined his life and his role at Apple. The trailer features several scenes from these presentations. In the first, Jobs barks at an underling to fix a system error saying, “You had three weeks. The universe was created in a third of that time.”
Later when told the fire marshal wants a large crowd to leave, Jobs says, “If a fire causes a stampede to the unmarked exits, it will have been well worth it for those who survive.”
He’s later shown dismissing the mother of his daughter and insisting the child isn’t his, being ousted as head of Apple and being instructed to fix things with his daughter.
He yells at a group of executives, “I sat in a garage and invented the future because artists lead and hacks ask for a show of hands.”
Steve Jobs started at Sony, where David Fincher was initially attached to direct and Christian Bale was considered to play Jobs. Danny Boyle replaced Fincher, and Fassbender was cast as Jobs after Bale exited the project.
Kate Winslet, Jeff Daniels and Katherine Waterston co-star in the film.
Universal picked up the film after Sony put it in turnaround.
The film — produced by Scott Rudin, Mark Gordon, Guymon Casady and Christian Colson — is set to be released on Oct. 9.
