As its title suggests, A Murder at the End of the World is set in a remote location. The seven-episode mystery series on Hulu follows a Gen Z detective and clever hacker named Darby Hart (played by Emma Corrin). Along with eight other guests, Darby is invited to a snowy retreat that is the home of a reclusive billionaire (played by Clive Owen). When another guest is found dead, Darby investigates the murder. Much like The Menu and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, the limited series features an alluring yet ominous setting where it feels like there's virtually no escape. In reality, filming took place across New Jersey, Utah, and Iceland. Browse everything we know about the filming locations below.
Where Was A Murder at the End of the World Filmed?
While the series transports viewers to a distant, isolated area, the production tapped 15 New Jersey towns and cities for filming, according to NJ Advance Media. Steven Gorelick, director of the New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission, told the outlet that those soon-to-be-seen-on-TV locales include Kearny, Jersey City, Fairfield, Newark, East Rutherford, Englewood, Readington, Chatham Township, Mountain Lakes, Jackson, Wayne, Rahway, and Independence Township. (Do we sense a road trip coming on?)
While a major chunk of filming took place in New Jersey, the production also tapped locations in Utah and Iceland to add authenticity to the secluded environment depicted in the series. A few of the actors featured on the show shared snapshots of their experience on location on Instagram. (Stars! They're just like us, posting selfies in exotic locales!) Alice Braga, who plays a doctor, posted videos and photos of the Northern Lights, snowy days, and mountainous landscapes she enjoyed while filming in Iceland. (Note that, at the time she posted, the series was titled Retreat.)
Emma Corrin—whom you might recognize as Princess Diana from The Crown—also shared a photo from what seemed to be a quite windy day in the chilly region. We can't wait to watch from the cozy comfort of our sofa.
