Pikachu
Everyone's favorite electric type mouse Pokémon has been chosen for battle! Pikachu is a confirmed fighter in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/Nintendo 3DS. He is a veteran of the series, having appeared in every single entry thus far. Pikachu is one of the, if not THE, most recognizable Pokémon of the Pokémon series. He was announced at the E3 2013 Nintendo Direct trailer, confirming his spot on the roster.
Background
Pikachu comes from the Pokémon series, an RPG series where players can catch creatures called Pokémon to battle other Pokémon. In addition to the main series of RPGs, there are also plenty of spin-off titles, as well as a trading card game and a TV show. Each Pokemon has their own unique look to it, in addition to different types (Fire, Grass, Water, etc.). Pikachu is an electric-mouse Pokemon, and is the second of three evolutions - Pichu, Pikachu, and then Raichu. He uses electric based attacks along with his quick speed to fight. Pikachu has also become somewhat of a mascot for the series, as he is easily the most recognizable Pokémon of the entire franchise.
Pikachu has been playable in every Super Smash Bros. game so far. He is fast and can move around the stage quickly. While his attacks may not be the strongest, he can score a lot of them in rapid succession. His recovery move covers a fair amount of distance, and Thunder has a reputation of being a very powerful move. Players who like to keep agile may find their match in Pikachu. You can view his official Super Smash Bros. page here.
