no squeaking noiseGilbertNo squeaking noise in the first 2 years. I have to retighten the screws as it makes squeaking noise now4
I don't wake up in the middle of the night anymore.MatthewMy only complaint is that you would need to secure it to the wall if you're not on carpet as the bedframe tends to slide if you just jump onto it. Otherwise, I'm happy to own a bedframe that doesn't squeak every time I lay down.4
Great value and qualityMarkgreat product5
Sturdy and attractive; too bad quality and engineering are so poorAnonymous reviewerThe bed is sturdy and good looking. I've had another one for 8 years, no issues. Directions are easy to follow ... once you find them. Mine weren't in the box and spent 10 minutes locating them online. Add laptop or tablet to your tools list (unless you actually still have a printer and want to burn through 24 pages of ink and paper). Assembly was exponentially more difficult than necessary because all the holes were drilled at slight angles so nothing aligned properly and most pieces had to be pounded together without damaging the wood - tricky, and lucky nothing broke. How about trueing up the jigs before you drill the holes? Assembly sequence could also be improved by performing Step 22 ahead of Step 13 and Step 21 ahead of Step 16. Half of Step 29 should be ahead of Step 21 and the other half between Steps 23 & 24. Otherwise, you are hunched over and trying to turn 30 different screws at harder angles than necessary. Who's in charge of engineering and quality control?2
Hardest IKEA Piece I've Ever BuiltAnonymous reviewerI had a bit of a gauntlet with this piece, so strap in. The first shipment I got was defective, with the holes drilled for the dowels and screws misaligned. They were misaligned by just enough that it prevented the pieces from fitting together, but really wasn't noticeable until trying to assemble. And, oh man, did this make assembly difficult. I was using a tent stake mallet dampened by cardboard to get these pieces together while standing them up vertically to be braced against the ground. So I called customer service and they sent a replacement two weeks later. They have yet to come get the first set, because they had to schedule two different visits. Now I thought the second set must be easier to assemble, since the first set was clearly defective. But I was wrong. The second set, while not impossible, was very difficult and required a lot of brute force, hammering large pieces with our fists, arms, and legs to get them to go together. Now that it's built, it's fine. Two stars. 2
Owned for 9 years!MorganWe have had this bed with the lonset slats for 9 years now and it withstood a move! I don’t experience the creaking noises like some have said, and the screws have never needed to be retightened. The assembly wasn’t a problem for us either, you just need to be familiar with putting together IKEA furniture. We have multiple Hemnes style products in our home and I would recommend all of them! The only minor issue is the softness of the wood, as it does leave dents/scratches, but it just gives it a rustic look!5
Hemnes Queen Bed - GrayCathyAssembly was fairly simple. A small blemish on the top rail at top of bed and probably should have pursued a replacement piece. 4
Crack in sideboardMuthuBought a king Hemnes in May 2023 for our guest room . Used once for 5 days during thanksgiving . Noted a crack 2 m 4 inches long that’s across the whole thickness of the sideboard. ago in the middle of the top half of the side board . Am unable to get a spare side board . We had task rabbit install it .
?poor quality of solid pine wood
Any ideas of gluing it together ?1
terrible slat designAlejandraI bought this bef for my 11 year old daughter. She doesnt weigh more than 80lbs. Never the less the slats slide out of the frame over and over making it dangerous and uncomfortable. Wasn’t expecting such a bad design from Ikea. Usually products are very well designed. Disappointed.2
Well worth the money spent.RoyThis is a very nice bed, well made with good wood, not "pressed wood chips". We purchased the dressers also, love them too. it was all worth the price, wife is very happy with it.5
Squeak Squeak SqueakAnonymousOnce you lay down do not even think about moving a muscle for the rest of the night. If you do, you and your partner will be greeted with extremely loud and obnoxious squeaking. If I'm reading and simply move my arm to turn the page, SQUEAK. It's awful. And yes, I've tightened all the screws. Yes, I've used lubricating spray on the joints and connections. Heck, as a last resort I even secured the frame to the wall. We decided the best course of action was to take a sledgehammer to the frame - that was gratifying at least.1
Pain to assembleBrentI'm giving this bedframe a 2 out of 5 because the delivery & assembly was an absolute nightmare. The bedframe came in 2 separate shipments about a week apart. One shipment had one box and the other included four boxes for a total of five. There were no instructions & nothing was labeled which made it difficult to put together. We quickly found the instructions on Google, but the 27 page PDF was missing the last 3 pages of the instructions, so we ended up finding a YouTube video, which was actually very helpful. It took the two of us 5.5 hours to assemble. The end product is OK, but I don't think this nightmare is worth the price or hassle! 2
Owned for 7+ yearsLeanneWe purchased the Hemnes queen in white stain seven years ago. I'm not sure why it gets so many negative reviews, and I wonder if it has to do with poor assembly or cheap bases. We (160lbs and 120lbs) purchased the bed with the Lonset base and have had no issues. It was easy to put together, is sturdy, and doesn't make noise. I'm taking off one star because the wood is so soft it dings/dents easily, and a wood knot caused the paint to crack at the foot end, making it a little unsightly. It should have been filled with woodfiller and sanded prior to staining/painting. Other than that, this is a sturdy, good-looking bed.4
6 years and counting KatelynI'm not sure why so many people have had bad experiences with this bed. We have had it close to 6 years, and it has survived 2 moves. Plus being taken apart a 3rd time to move upstairs. We only had to tighten it again one time after buying it and that was recent. Two adults sleep on it, and we are overweight. It's also been able to withstand activities which I know is a concern for a lot of overweight customers.5
Breaks apart and drops you while you sleepTiffanyNot built strong enough to withstand normal use. It eventually wiggles loose and every couple months, falls apart while we're sleeping. We've tried to keep it together with extra brackets we purchased separately but it still somehow finds a way to get loose. We're tired of this frame at this point and shopping for a new one. It also scares us half to death when it drops us in the middle of the night. We're not large people so this is a problem with the design of how the pieces fit together1
Looks great, nightmare to put together.LuBed looks great, good quality but a nightmare to put together... definitely need 2 people. And a Regular King Mattress (NON-Ikea) fits but VERY TIGHTLY making the bed is difficult.4
Bed slatsJohnJust purchased a hemmes full - however, there were no bed slats ! Please advise!!!3
Bed breaks easilyDanielThis bed broke almost immediately, the side post started coming off from the headboard. I called customer service and they said there was nothing they could do, so its just been slowly breaking apart over the course of 2 years. I've learned that apparently a bed frame can break a lot before it stops working as a bed frame, but it definitely should not be breaking at all!1
Sqeeks, and brokeJeremyHad this bed frame for about 4 years, wife and I are average size, less than 200lbs each. It has been squeaky for a few years. Now the center support beam and bracket suddenly broke while we're laying down, collapsing the center section entirely.2
Lasted through my marriage but not single lifeAliceWell, this bed lasted through my 12 year marriage with no issues but after divorcing it couldn't keep up with my single life and broke. Repeatedly. Headboard separated, footboard separated, slats fell out from the bottom. Finally time to upgrade my bed along with everything else in my life I guess.
Pro tip: this bed frame does not do well with sustained movement side to side across the bed width4
