Dhuni - also known as the rhythmic tune of singing; melody. Sri Satguru Arjan Dev while composing the Aad Guru Granth Sahib selected nine ballads (Vaars) narrating the stories of valour of Kings and brave-hearts of the times and suggested them to musicians tunes for singing them according to the ballads of ancient warriors. He indicated specific names of these ballads (vars) in the beginning of various verses. Satguru Hargobind Ji got these Vars sung for the promotion of the sentiment of valour; these were sung by traditional musicians till early twentieth century and ultimately were lost in time.
