Upon his return to India after being educated in England, David learns of his mother's antipathy for him; overwrought, he has a vision of his father leading a group of Sikhs and follows him into the jungle to a Brahmin temple, where he witnesses the secret betrothal of Sarasvati to the idol of Siva the Destroyer. He rescues the girl from the temple, and much to his mother's humiliation he marries her and takes her to England, leaving behind his childhood love Diana. Sarasvati, unable to adjust to English society and customs when her husband is elected to Parliament, is persuaded by one of her countrymen to return to India; David follows and arrives on the eve of a fresh rebellion. Seeking his wife, he evades an attempt on his life, for Sarasvati receives the fatal blow and saves him.

The Kid keeps Aitken from paying, and when Mary's accomplice is murdered he takes the blame, but later he proves himself innocent. Aitken departs for the East, leaving the field free to the Kid and Alys.

Though engaged to Pierre, a member of the Royal Mounted Police, Mabella, a girl living at a Canadian fur-trading post, is forced to marry Gaspard, a vicious half-breed who has incriminating evidence about her father, Lopente. Pierre is distressed; Mabella, brutally mistreated and neglected by Gaspard, goes to the police station for protection. Gaspard, however, abducts her and forces her to go away with him on a dogsled. Pierre discovers that Gaspard is wanted for a crime, and pursues them; Rin-Tin-Tin, his dog, kills Gaspard, effecting the rescue of Mabella. Father La Croi reveals that Mabella, an orphan discovered during a snowstorm, is not of Indian parentage, and she is happily united with Pierre.

This delightful burlesque of Alexandre Dumas' famous adventure narrative (and then-leading screen swashbuckler Douglas Fairbanks' hit films) represented one of writer/director/star Max Linder's attempts to conquer Hollywood on its own turf. He'd been an enormous star in early silent cinema, influencing the style of such subsequent silent comedy luminaries as Charles Chaplin and Buster Keaton. But his health suffered after he was gassed fighting for France in World War I. Despite the support of Chaplin himself (among others), his subsequent career in America never reached the popular heights he had at home. The commercial failure of this final U.S. effort seems particularly bewildering now, since THE THREE MUST-GET-THERES holds up so well. This spoof has the antic star as Dart-in-Again, a rapier-wielding dandy with a lovelorn horse (pining for the cow it left behind in the country) and a tendency to make an idiot of himself whilst attempting to conquer the forces of tyranny. Making scant effort to hide its incongruous modern Southern California backdrops, the movie is full of gags both slapstick and absurdist. Critics gratefully received it at the time. Audiences?
