Americans "officially" honor, celebrate and remember everyday heroes of the U.S. Marine Corps every November. The United States Marine Corps claims November 10th, 1775, as the date of its birthday (official establishment), when the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution creating its forerunner, the Continental Marines. After the American Revolution War, the Marines were disbanded in 1783 for fifteen years as a fighting force. They were re-established on July, 11th 1798 as the permanent maritime land force service branch of the United States Armed Forces. Since then, they have been responsible for conducting expeditionary and amphibious operations through combined arms, and acted on behalf of the interests of the United States of America with its own infantry, artillery, aerial, and special operations forces. The many accomplishments the USMC has made over the past quarter millennium are highlighted throughout the month.
