A little while back, we ran a special Wtf episode about the 1979 Disney movie, The Black Hole, an uncommonly adult film for the family-friendly studio. It kicked off an experiment for the studio to move into adult fare, eventually spawning no less than three subsidiaries that produced some of the most influential movies of the 80s, 90s and 2000s. These off-shoots paved the way for Disney’s place as the most powerful motion picture studio in the world, with them owning Lucasfilm, Pixar and the MCU. This summer, the Mouse House released an uncommonly bold MCU movie, Deadpool & Wolverine, which sported an R-rating, and has done blockbuster business. Many are wondering if perhaps this could have the way for Disney to tackle some adult fare, but it wouldn’t be the first time, and maybe now is the time to bring back Touchstone Pictures.
So, what’s Touchstone Pictures...

While some of us often dream of labyrinthine houses and ’80s horror icons who invite you to skateboard with them down at the local park (me), Rosanna Arquette is having night fantasies about starring in a sequel to Susan Seidelman’s 1985 comedic drama Desperately Seeking Susan. Arquette played Roberta Glass in the film alongside Madonna as Susan, with Aidan Quinn playing Dez. The cult classic focuses on a bored New Jersey suburban homemaker whose fascination with a free-spirited woman she has read about in the personal columns leads to her getting mistaken for the woman herself. While discussing the film on Anna Smith’s Girls On Film Podcast, Arquette said she often thinks about what happened to the film’s lookalike duo.
“I always had a fantasy about what happened to them?” Arquette said about the character she plays in the movie alongside Madonna, who made her acting debut in the film.

Susan Seidelman’s enduring breakout hit Desperately Seeking Susan turns 40 next year, and Rosanna Arquette, one of the film’s stars, has said she still has hypothetical dreams of revisiting the pic in a sequel.
Speaking on film critic and journalist Anna Smith’s popular Girls On Film Podcast, Arquette said the thought of returning to the feature popped into her mind because sequels are now frequently being produced.
“I always had a fantasy about what happened to them?” she said of the character she plays in the pic alongside Madonna, who made her acting debut in the film. “Who are they now? It would be so great to make that movie. And see where everybody ends up. Do Dez [Aidan Quinn’s character] and her stay together? What happens to them?”

Nicole Kidman is ready for more “Practical Magic.” On the red carpet for her new Netflix movie “A Family Affair,” the Oscar winner confirmed to Variety’s Marc Malkin that she is planning to star in the sequel to the 1998 favorite opposite her returning co-star Sandra Bullock. When asked what the storyline for the sequel will be, Kidman said, “You have to ask Sandy.”
“We’ve been circling it for a while, but you know it’s still in [the early stages],” Kidman added.
As previously reported, Warner Bros. announced that a “Practical Magic” follow-up is in the works earlier this month. Kidman and Bullock are set to also produce the project as well. The original followed siblings engaged in a supernatural cover-up after Bullock accidentally drugs and kills Kidman’s abusive boyfriend (Goran Višnjić).
Kidman teased the upcoming sequel a bit more in an interview with People magazine, saying: “Yes, I will be in it.

Blue Bloods isn't quite done yet.
CBS' beloved police/family drama still has eight episodes left that will air in the fall, though they've wrapped up the first part of their final season and will soon be finished filming the series finale, which will air in December 2024.
CBS gets a big, fat F for this cancelation news, but let's put that aside and look at what worked and what didn't during the first part of Blue Bloods Season 14.
Before we jump into it, let's clear up some confusion. CBS is calling those final eight episodes the second part of Season 14 even though they Also called Blue Bloods Season 14 Episode 10 the season finale.
Tom Selleck recently stated that those eight episodes are really Season 15, and it's hard to blame him for saying so, even though it caused more confusion. These episodes are airing in the fall, traditionally the start of the new season,...

Blue Bloods isn’t interested in reinventing the wheel in its final season. Showrunner Kevin Wade tells TV Insider that just like in Season 14 Part 1 and its finale, which aired on Friday, May 17 on CBS, Blue Bloods‘ final episodes will be reliably familiar territory, but it will always aim to entertain its loyal viewers. There are dramatic turns they’re interested in exploring, like the bail reform plot line and Aidan Quinn‘s violent reaction to it in the midseason finale, but one thing that’s not likely to happen when the show returns is a Danny and Baez romance. Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) and Baez (Marisa Ramirez) had the heavy task of reining in Quinn’s Det. Gus Vanderlip, who had gone rogue in response to a serial rapist he had arrested two weeks prior being released. Between this storyline and the crooked sober-living house at which Jamie (Will Estes...

Spoiler Alert: This story contains details of tonight’s Blue Bloods Season 14 midseason finale, which is the close of the first part of the NYPD family drama’s final season.
“Father, forgive me for I have sinned,” says New York Police commissioner Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) in church in tonight’s Blue Bloods last midseason finale as he tries to repair a rift with his actual father, the former NYPD commissioner Henry Reagan (Len Cariou).
It ain’t the Sunday dinner that defines the well-watched CBS series, but it certainly was a moment of affirmation for perspicacious fans who may be speculating where their show is going to go in its final episodes after a long long run. Put another way, Blue Bloods may be ending later this year, but you’d never know it from the Season 14 midseason finale that aired tonight.

The good news is that Blue Bloods is all set for an exciting season midseason finale.
CBS is billing the eight episodes airing in the fall as the second half of Season 14, though Tom Selleck said in an interview that he considers them a shortened Season 15 that he hopes will be extended til May, and promos are calling this the season finale.
Either way, this final episode before the summer hiatus promises the action, heart, and family drama that keeps viewers coming back year after year. But will the knowledge that there are only eight episodes left ruin the experience?
The last few episodes leading up to the end of a series are always bittersweet. The higher the quality, the harder it is to accept that the series is almost over.
That's especially true for Blue Bloods, which has a passionate fanbase that is angry about the cancelation.

Brad Pitt was the King of Hollywood for many years and still enjoys a lot of royal privileges in the industry. He’s adored and cult-followed… But at the same time, many great movies he starred in went under the radar for the people who enjoy his works.

Legends of the Fall follows a family of a former US Army soldier that moved to a ranch in Montana together with their Cree Native American friends.

Looking back at Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 crime thriller Pulp Fiction we can all agree that the casting of John Travolta, Uma Thurman, and Bruce Willis was top-notch, alongside the impeccable storyline. But what if we say, Willis was never on Tarantino’s long list of potential actors for the role of Butch Coolidge.

Suggesting a lengthy list of names ahead of casting, Tarantino wanted to star the above-mentioned A-listers in his crime thriller over Bruce Willis. But things worked in favor of the Die Hard star, as he eventually appeared alongside Uma Thurman’s Mia.

A rare flagship indie producer left on the French market, Bruno Nahon’s Paris-based company Unité is preparing to conquer international audiences with “Rematch,” a period psychological thriller chronicling the historical battle between world chess champion Garry Kasparov, and Ibm’s supercomputer Deep Blue in 1997.
The sprawling show, directed by Yan England (“The Red Band Society”) and co-created with Nahon and André Gulluni (“Sam”), was commissioned by Arte in France and has already been sold by Federation Studios to major outlets around the world, including HBO Europe for Spain, Portugal, the Nordics, Iceland, Baltics, Central Europe, Greece and the Netherlands. Disney+ has bought first-window rights for the U.K. and will air the show in France after the Arte broadcast.
Nahon, who created Unité a decade ago, has been making bold shows and movies exploring social, religious and political aspects of societies, and has often captured the zeitgeist in the process.

An excerpt from director Ed Zwick’s new memoir “Hits, Flops, and Other Illusions: My Fortysomething Years in Hollywood” (published by Vanity Fair) reveals the tensions that existed on the set of his 1994 Western epic “Legends of the Fall.” Zwick writes that he had a rocky relationship with leading man Brad Pitt, who was cast in the role of Tristan Ludlow after Tom Cruise dropped out. Pitt’s agent allegedly called Zwick after the first table read “to say Brad wanted to quit.”
“It fell to [producer] Marshall [Herskovitz] to talk Brad off the ledge,” Zwick writes. “It was the first augury of the deeper springs of emotion roiling inside Brad. He seems easygoing at first, but he can be volatile when riled, as I was to be reminded more than once as shooting began and we took each other’s measure.”

Have you ever wondered how characters get their names? Sex and the City used its source material for most of its main characters, but the writing team decided on the names for guest stars and characters that came later. Aidan Shaw, Carrie’s second big love, was named after the actor initially considered for the role that went to John Corbett.

Aidan Shaw could have had any other name, but the writing team liked the name after hearing it on an actor they considered for the role. That actor was too busy for the part, but the first name stuck.

‘NCIS’ Creators Considered a Lot of A-list Actor to Play Gibbs — From Alec Baldwin to Patrick Swayze
Fans of NCIS eagerly await season 21 updates, as we can’t wait to find out when the beloved series returns. Unfortunately, we don’t anticipate Mark Harmon’s character, Leroy Jethro Gibbs, appearing. Harmon played Gibbs for 19 seasons before calling it quits. And before Harmon got the job, NCIS creators considered A-list stars to play Gibbs.
‘NCIS’ creators considered A-listers to play Leroy Jethro Gibbs instead of Mark Harmon
Mark Harmon wasn’t always who NCIS creators wanted to play Leroy Jethro Gibbs. While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, it was revealed that other A-list stars were considered for the role.
Charles Floyd Johnson, executive producer for Jag and NCIS, spoke about the casting challenges production initially faced. “I know Harrison Ford was a name that everybody thought about for Gibbs because he was so perfect,” Johnson told The Hollywood Reporter. “But, I don’t think it ever got further than,...

Although NCIS was well-liked from the get-go, not even an elite investigation could have foreseen the show becoming a hit that would span decades and launch a franchise.
It began in spring 2003 as a backdoor pilot for CBS’ sturdy military-law procedural Jag. Co-created by Jag mastermind Donald P. Bellisario (Magnum, P.I., Quantum Leap) and Don McGill (Numbers, CSI), NCIS follows special agents from D.C.’s Naval Criminal Investigative Service, led by Mark Harmon as Leroy Jethro Gibbs. The show’s initial core cast included Michael Weatherly (Tony Dinozzo), Sasha Alexander (Caitlin Todd), Pauley Perrette (Abby Sciuto) and David McCallum (Ducky Mallard). Twenty years later, the series continues to thrive, as it stands as CBS’ No. 1 broadcast drama for five straight seasons and has launched four spinoffs, with the first international entry, NCIS: Sydney, debuting this fall on the network.

If you looked to the 1980s for representation of the HIV/AIDS epidemic on mainstream screens anywhere, you’d be staring into a void.
Hollywood, much like the reigning political administration of the time, ignored the crisis as it grew that decade — and certainly did not know what to do with it once ignorance was no longer an option. It wasn’t until Rock Hudson, once a glimmering fawned-upon pillar of quote-unquote masculinity, collapsed in the summer of 1985 and died that fall from AIDS complications that the film industry was finally forced to respond at all.
That same year, just a few months before Hudson’s death, porn-director-turned-activist filmmaker Arthur J. Bressan Jr. released the first narrative theatrical feature devoted to the gay plague that the likes of Reagan and Thatcher otherwise preferred to keep far away from legislation and policy.
Bressan died two years later from his own complications from AIDS,...

This episode of the Horror TV Shows We Miss video series was Written and Narrated by Niki Minter, Edited by Adam Walton, Produced by John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
The Chiller Channel was a huge gateway for me. I had been exposed to whatever my mom watched previous to that, or whatever weird shit I found at 2Am… it’s more than you think. Chiller brought me the things I missed out on when they originally aired. One of those is Night Visions.
Night Visions originally aired in 2001, though it was meant to air the year prior, but one of our previous series, Freakylinks took its place. I’m not upset about this– Freakylinks was the series we deserved. Then on July 6th, 2001, brooding punk poet and man of many black tees, Henry Rollins entered our homes through the small screen. He’d probably give me shit for using the word brooding.

At the start of the shoot, she was a no one. By the end, she was a superstar. As the 80s cult classic starring Madonna as a gorgeous grifter returns, director Susan Seidelman recalls capturing the zeitgeist on a shoestring budget
Given that it launched the film careers of the then little known Rosanna Arquette, the entirely unknown Aidan Quinn and some singer called Madonna, 1985’s Desperately Seeking Susan still stakes a good claim to be one of the canniest casting jobs of all time. And that’s before you get to the then even less known supporting actors: Laurie Metcalf as Arquette’s tacky sister-in-law! John Turturro as the cheesy club Mc! John Lurie barely visible as a saxophone-playing neighbour! Giancarlo Esposito in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it role as a street salesman!
It’s an astonishing roll call of future talent from when they were still young and hungry in Manhattan.
