Disney and Pixar’s 2017 hit Coco may have been the first time many audiences truly experienced the beauty of Dia de los Muertos, but it’s far from the first time mainstream media has brought Latin American culture to the forefront. It may be the most popular depiction of the holiday, but its gorgeous visuals and catchy songs followed the success of George Gutierrez’s similarly themed The Book of Life. That’s not to say either film is better than the other. Both have their merits, and their stories are dissimilar enough to qualify as mostly unique experiences.
However, fans of the 2017 hit are always looking for something new to enjoy. Fortunately, Gutierrez’s work stretches back further than The Book of Life. Before the beautifully stylized film hit theaters, Gutierrez worked on a lesser-known venture — a Nickelodeon cartoon — called El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera. The best George Miller movies are mostly known as the Mad Max films. However, the Australian filmmaker has also had success with family films, a biographical drama, and several dark fantasies. In recent years, Miller has become more prolific, helming Three Thousand Years of Longing while directing more movies in his Mad Max franchise, including Fury Road and the 2024 release Furiosa. Miller’s first work as a director was the short film Violence in Cinema: Part 1, which was met with mixed responses from critics and audiences when released in 1971.
The film examined elements of cinematic violence, which Miller then used in his feature directorial debut, Mad Max. Although he has since proved capable of making successful films in various genres, the dystopian action movie released at the end of the 1970s established Miller as a filmmaker confidently able to orchestrate narratives of awe-inspiring spectacle. We spoke with comedic actor Thomas Lennon amid the release of Chosen Family, his new movie from writer-director Heather Graham who also leads the cast. Lennon steals his scenes as Matt, the hilarious but supportive friend of Ann (Graham), a single yoga instructor trying in vain to connect with her new boyfriend's devilish seven-year-old daughter. It's the latest laugh-out-loud project in a long line of similarly comedic ones from Lennon, whom Comedy Central fans might remember best from the acclaimed mockumentary series, Reno 911! And it sounds like another reunion between its beloved cast is not exactly out of the question down the line.
"I can't imagine we wouldn't do more Reno 911! because we already have all the outfits, which is basically the hardest part," Lennon told MovieWeb. "You can tell that we don't really overthink it when we do it. If anything, we really underthink it quite a bit." He...

Despite a lack of updates over the past few years, Reno 911! may not be completely over. The mockumentary is famously a Cops parody, showcasing the Reno Sheriff's Department as they attempt to intervene in various crimes and domestic issues. It is filled with raunchy humor, as the characters are not especially competent officers and generally struggle with the producers of their supposed documentary. It ran for eight seasons and starred numerous actors, including voice actor Wendi McLendon-Covey.
In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant about Chosen Family (2024), Reno 911! co-creator, Thomas Lennon, opened up about the show's future. Lennon admitted that he expects to see it return and believes that the cast would agree, no matter what they were working on. He had high praise for every star and their dedication to the show but cited Niecy Nash (Deputy Raineesha Williams) as especially devoted. Check out his quote below:...

Cosmo and Wanda's son, Poof, is all grown up. The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish recently reintroduced the now-adult fairy, now going by the name of Peri, in one of the cartoon's newest episodes.
A Fairly OddParents fan shared a clip from the episode, "Lost and Founder's Day," which aired on Nickelodeon on July 22, on X that sees Poof become the fairy godparent to a new character named Dev. In the clip, Poof initially introduces himself as Poof before explaining that he changed his name to "Peri, like periwinkle," which is the color of his hair/clothes, as well as a likely nod to "Fairywinkle," his mother's maiden name. However, there's a real world explanation for why Poof has been renamed Peri in A New Wish. Dcu should consider re-adapting iconic stories like The Dark Knight Returns for a fresh take on classic characters. The introduction of Kordax from Atlantis Chronicles could add a new dimension to Aquaman's cinematic universe. Flashpoint, a potential game-changer for the Dcu, may offer a way to consolidate multiple continuities into a cohesive narrative.
The new DC Universe has plenty of comics to choose from for its movie adaptations, but shouldn't be overly afraid to re-read the same stories that have already been adapted. James Gunn's Superman will officially usher in a new cinematic continuity for DC Comics, bringing with it a waterfall of potential for a brand-new take on the classic comic characters brought to the screen once more. It may be easy for the burgeoning franchise to look exclusively to new stories, hoping to differentiate itself from the Dceu.

The placid art of waterbending in Avatar: The Last Airbender is common to the Northern & Southern Water Tribes (as well as the Foggy Swamp dwellers.) It involves the restructuring of water and water-based substances in numerous ways, including offense, defense, healing, building, among others. Waterbending is derived from the moon, which pushes and pulls the world's oceans with regular rhythms.
As with any other style, there are varying degrees of talent, skill and experience that separate the greatest from those who are weak or mediocre. Both Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra feature skilled waterbenders who have mastered this flowing, elegant bending style, and ten of them have risen to the top as the most talented, prodigious benders of water in the entire world.

Captain Kirk was insulted when he was referred to as "Captain Dunsel," a term used to describe something of no use or obsolete. Starfleet attempted to replace Kirk with a computer in the Tos episode "The Ultimate Computer," but Kirk proved his value by defeating the self-preserving AI. Similar AI mistakes were made in later Star Trek series, such as Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: Picard, where AI malfunctions threatened the safety of Starfleet and organic life.
While Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) commanded a great deal of respect from his crew in Star Trek: The Original Series, he once earned himself the insulting title of "Captain Dunsel." Captain Kirk was a Starfleet legend, whose exploits would go on to inspire future generations of officers from Star Trek: The Next Generation to Star Trek: Lower Decks. However, this legendary status could have been scuppered had things gone...

This week, Star Trek: Very Short Treks reaches the final frontier, and its final episode, with "Walk, Don't Run." Two generations of Star Trek animation find themselves in a bitter clash — and only a pair of Starfleet legends can help them. The latest Very Short Trek opens with Star Trek: Lower Decks' D'vana Tendi (Noël Wells) breaking the fourth wall to commemorate fifty years of Star Trek animation with Star Trek: The Animated Series stars Montgomery Scott (Carlos Alazraqui), M'Ress (Cristina Milizia), and Arex.

The final episode of Star Trek: Very Short Treks turns into a musical, adding an entertaining new element to the franchise. The characters debate which Star Trek show invented the holodeck, giving credit to Star Trek: The Animated Series. While not as successful as Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' musical episode, the fun musical number showcased Noël Wells' vocal talents.
The final installment of Star Trek: very Short Treks surprisingly turns into the second Star Trek musical, and it calls out which show really invented the holodeck. Capping off the 50th-anniversary celebration of Star Trek: The Animated Series, Casper Kelly's Star Trek: very Short Treks episode 5, "Walk, Don't Run," is a decidedly meta affair as the characters fully acknowledge they are part of Star Trek animated TV shows, and they debate the virtues and embarrassing aspects of the distinct animated styles of Star Trek: Lower Decks vs. Star Trek: The Animated Series.
