Exclusive: Hot off the success of its record-breaking Netflix film Purple Hearts, Alloy Entertainment has unveiled four new features in development, three of which are based on books that the company has developed in-house.
The first film, Getting Rid of Matthew, based on the bestselling novel by Jane Fallon, follows Helen, who finally gets her wish after years of begging her lover Matthew to leave his wife. And immediately comes to regret it. Hernán Jiménez will direct from his own script.
The second feature, to be written and directed by Chris Hazzard & Michael Fontana, is an adaptation of Chris Archer’s book series Pyrates, which watches as a group of kids searches for Captain Kidd’s lost treasure in contemporary Manhattan.
Third on the docket is Kisses & Croissants, which writer-producer Elspeth Keller (Catching Babies) will adapt from the same-name Alloy novel by Anne-Sophie Jouhanneau. That title follows 16-year-old American Mia,...

Cincinnati Reds star Yasiel Puig and Pittsburgh Pirates star pitcher Chris Archer have both been hit with suspensions for their roles in a crazy bench-clearing brawl ... Mlb announced. Archer intentionally threw at Reds infielder Derek Dietrich after he had previously homered off him earlier in the game. The pitch went behind Dietrich, pissing off Reds players who stormed the field. The angriest Reds player was Puig -- who jogged right over to Archer and got in his face.

H'wood, games join hands
Attendees at the inaugural Hollywood and Games Summit were among the first to get a glimpse of the highly anticipated Spider-Man 3 as executive producer and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige unspooled a surprise screening of the film's exclusive trailer. The sneak peak to those at Tuesday's conference -- just hours after the only others to see it were a select few in a small New York theater -- emphasized the ever-widening impact of traditional Hollywood movies and the video game world at the daylong event, held at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Feige and Treyarch executive producer Chris Archer discussed the cross-collaboration between game and film creators and the importance and challenges of protecting the integrity of the characters in both genres.
