MTV will honor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson with the Generation Award during the 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards, the network said today.

Johnson returns to the show after hosting in 2016 with Kevin Hart. This year’s show is hosted by “Shazam!” star Zachary Levi and will air on Monday, June 17 at 9:00 Pm Et/Pt.

The Generation Award celebrates actors whose diverse contributions to film and television have turned them into household names in the industry. Past recipients include Chris Pratt, Will Smith, Reese Witherspoon, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Wahlberg, Sandra Bullock, Jamie Foxx, Johnny Depp, Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, Tom Cruise, Jim Carrey and the “Fast & Furious” franchise.

Johnson is making his return to the ceremony after hosting it alongside Kevin Hart back in 2016. This year, “Shazam!” star Zachary Levi will host the show that airs on Monday, June 17 at 9 p.m. Et/Pt.

“Johnson is an icon on both film and TV who has become one of the most beloved actors of our generation,” Amy Doyle, general manager, MTV, VH1, Cmt and Logo, said in a statement. “Throughout his career, Johnson has proven to be the ultimate badass – an action star with a flair for comedy, one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time and a true family man. He continues to captivate his audience worldwide and we are thrilled to celebrate him with the Generation Award.”

MTV has revealed that Jada Pinkett Smith will be honored with the “Trailblazer” Award during the 2019 “MTV Movie & TV Awards.”

The prize, which recognizes game-changing creators in entertainment, will be presented by Pinkett Smith’s “Girls Trip” co-star Tiffany Haddish. Previous recipients of the award include Lena Waithe in 2018, Shailene Woodley, Channing Tatum, Emma Watson and Emma Stone.

“Jada has been a powerhouse since the beginning of her career and has achieved multi-hyphenate status throughout,” said Amy Doyle, general manager of MTV, VH1, Cmt and Logo. “She is the epitome of someone who is not afraid to challenge the status quo and we are thrilled to present her with this year’s Trailblazer Award.”

With four nods each, HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” Marvel’s “Avengers: Endgame” and Magnolia Pictures’ “RBG” are tied for most nominations at the 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards.

The final season of “Game of Thrones” is nominated for Best Show for the third year in a row, along with Best Hero for Maisie Williams as Arya Stark, Best Fight for Arya Stark vs. the White Walkers and Best Performance in a Show for Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen.

“Avengers: Endgame” followed suit, with nominations for Best Movie, Best Fight, some love for Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man with a Best Hero nod, and Josh Brolin as Thanos getting a shout-out for Best Villain.

His DC/WB superhero film spent two weeks atop the box office chart this month, and now Zachary Levi has another reason to grin. The Shazam! star is set to host the 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards.

The cable net also said today that its kudos show is set for June 17 at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. Categories and nominees for the Golden Popcorn Buckets will be announced in the coming weeks.

Levi also is known to MTV’s demo for playing Fandral in Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World and to slightly more aged viewers as the title character in NBC’s cult spy action-comedy Check. The Louisiana native’s recent credits also include The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Alias Grace, Telenovela, Heroes Reborn and voice roles in Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure and Lego Jurassic World: The Indominus Escape.

The “Shazam!” and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” star will host the 2019 awards ceremony taking place on June 17 at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California.

Levi follows past hosts including Tiffany Haddish, Adam Devine, Dwayne Johnson with Kevin Hart, Amy Schumer, Conan O’Brien, Rebel Wilson, Russell Brand, Jason Sudeikis and Andy Samberg.
