2025 has some great shows returning to network TV, so here are the big ones to look forward to!

TV networks traditionally hold off on shows for midseason, including returning ones. This was bigger after the 2023 Hollywood strikes affected the networks. Thus, a few decided to hold off on full seasons of shows until winter.

Call “Sight” a stealth faith-based movie and you won’t be far off the mark. For the most part, it’s a respectful but unremarkable biopic about Dr. Ming Wang, a Chinese-born, Nashville-based eye surgeon whose innovative use of amniotic membrane contact lenses has helped restore the eyesight of millions of patients, many of them children. Canadian procedural Wild Cards is coming back for a second season on The CW.

The renewal news came this morning as originating broadcaster CBC renewed the show and unveiled it at its Upfronts.

It marks a bit of good news for The CW, which canceled Walker earlier this week, while Canadian drama The Spencer Sisters, which it also aired, was canceled at CTV.

The show, stars Grey’s Anatomy’s Giacomo Gianniotti, Riverdale’s Vanessa Morgan and Jason Priestley, has been one of The CW’s stronger performers over the last year.

Earlier this month, The CW’s President of Entertainment Brad Schwartz told Deadline that he was keen to bring back the show for more episodes.

Canadian procedural Wild Cards has been one of The CW’s stronger performers over the last twelve months.

It was somewhat surprising, then, that the show which stars Grey’s Anatomy’s Giacomo Gianniotti, Riverdale’s Vanessa Morgan and Jason Priestley, hasn’t been quickly snapped up for a second season.

The CW’s President of Entertainment Brad Schwartz told Deadline in February that the network was in conversations with Blink49 Studios about more episodes coming to the network.

Those talks are still ongoing, but the suggestion is very much that it will continue on The CW.

“You’ll probably be hearing more announcements from us very soon,” he told Deadline this morning. “That show did great. It grew 10% versus what The Flash did in the same spot the year before. So, here we are beating shows that everyone’s very romantic about. We’d very much like to renew that one.

Last year, Angel Studios opened a booth at CinemaCon in Last Vegas to launch its distribution arm. That paid off handsomely after “Sound of Freedom” exploded to a $250 million worldwide gross. This year, they took to a much bigger stage for a Caesar’s Palace breakfast presentation and announced its intention to stun the industry again.

The Angel headliner was “David,” an animated musical based on the Biblical story of David vs. Goliath. Or, as the studio’s chief marketing officer Alex Nielsen told the audience: “We intend to release the most successful animated film of all time.”

Wild Cards, a Canadian police procedural, has become a surprise hit for The CW.

The series, which stars Grey’s Anatomy’s Giacomo Gianniotti, Riverdale’s Vanessa Morgan and Jason Priestley, launched in January.

It has been averaging over 500,000 in the live overnights, per Nielsen, which The CW President of Entertainment Brad Schwartz says will likely go to around 1M over the first seven days.

This is what constitutes a hit for the network. “That’s a nice success for us. If we can do seven nights a week with a million viewers, that would be goal number one, then two million,” he told Deadline.

Schwartz added that he has already begun discussing a second season of the show, which comes from Blink49 Studios.

“We have not renewed it yet but that is a conversation that’s happening right now.

More than a decade after hanging up Alice Cullen’s iconic wig, Ashley Greene is giving a little nod to her former life as a glamorous bloodsucker with a guest-starring role on The CW’s Wild Cards.

The Twilight star appears on the crime procedural’s Feb. 21 episode (8/7c) as Wendy, the producer of a popular vampire TV show whose cast “becomes the target of a dangerous stalker,” per the official synopsis. Check out an exclusive first look at Greene’s character above.

Wild Cards starring Riverdale‘s Vanessa Morgan and Reign‘s Giacomo Gianniotti will make its primetime debut on The CW on January 17, 2024. Described as a crime-solving procedural with a comedic twist, episode one – “The Infinity Thief” – introduces Gianniotti as a cop forced to team up with a con artist, played by Morgan.

Season one episodes will air on Wednesdays at 8pm Et/Pt.

Morgan stars as Max Mitchell, Gianniotti plays Cole Ellis, Terry Chen is Chief Li, and Jason Priestley is George. Season also stars Michael Xavier as Detective Simmons, Amy Goodmurphy as Detective Yates, Fletcher Donovan as Ricky, and Jonesy as Marc.

A lot of the conversation around “The Last of Us” centers on what gets lost after the world changes. There’s societal collapse, transformation, widespread death, and a fundamental shift in priorities. But for all that’s missing in a post-Outbreak world, the series’ latest episode “Left Behind” does make room for a kind of wonder that wasn’t really present in the Before Times. Some of the lone bright spots in the show have come from Ellie (Bella Ramsey) being in absolute awe of something she’s never experienced before. We’ve seen her try to wrap her head around football, airplanes, and monkeys. There are tragic reasons that all these things are novelties to her, but that sense of discovery the show gets from her circumstances is what’s sometimes able to balance out the harshness.

The Lake is a summertime family comedy that premiered on Amazon Prime Video on June 17, directed by Jordan Canning of Schitt's Creek. The series centers on Justin (Jordan Gavaris), a biological dad who is awkwardly trying to get to know his teenage daughter, Billie (Madison Shamoun), as he shows her the small community around the lake where he grew up. When Gavaris spoke with Complex about the series, he described it as "progressive without feeling preachy," since it features a diverse cast and LGBTQ+ characters.

Although this is the first scripted original series set in Canada for Amazon Prime Video, the cast consists of many recognizable actors including Julia Stiles, Terry Chen, Jon Dore, and Jerry O'Connell. While some of the actors are well-versed in the world of comedy, most of the cast has primarily acted in dramatic roles, and their characters on The Lake provide a pleasant surprise for fans of their previous work.
