The companies have been discussing a potential merger for several months, two sources confirmed to Variety. Execs at both companies see the tie-up as a merger of equals, not one party acquiring the other. The teams at SpringHill and Fulwell 73, whose partners include James Corden, are looking at what’s happening in the media and entertainment sector and believe that consolidation would create a stronger entity rather than leaving each separately, one source said. The merger talks were first reported by Bloomberg.

Deadline has confirmed the news, broken by Bloomberg, which would see the two companies come together with an expanded programming slate.

Fulwell 73 is behind projects like Adele: One Night Only, Friends: The Reunion and Carpool Karaoke as well as documentaries including Hitsville: The Making of Motown and Sunderland ‘Til I Die. It previously produced The Late Late Show with James Corden, whose host became a partner in the business, which was founded by Gabe Turner, Ben Turner, Leo Pearlman and Ben Winston.

The SpringHill Company was founded by James and Maverick Carter in 2020. It is behind Disney+’s The Crossover, Netflix’s Rez Ball and Space Jam: A New Legacy.

The BBC World Service has been given its long-awaited funding boost in today’s UK budget, which contained no updates on film and TV tax credits but news on VFX.

While not announced by chancellor Rachel Reeves during her speech in the past hour, the small print in the UK’s budget document says: “In 2025-26, the settlement provides an increase in funding to the BBC World Service, protecting existing foreign language service provision and its mission to deliver globally trusted media, in support of the UK’s global presence and soft power.” The current settlement runs down in March.

The funding boost, the value of which has not been disclosed as of yet, comes out of the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

A BBC statement said the corporation “warmly welcomes” the additional funding, adding: “We are pleased the government has acknowledged the strong case for investing in the World Service.

In her new role, Miller will lead the talent team, overseeing all aspects of talent booking and management across the company’s portfolio of live events and shows, including the Golden Globes, American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, Academy of Country Music Awards, and Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest. Instead of airing a blend of talk and comedy every weeknight, it would air live Monday-Thursday nights, and Friday’s slot would have a rerun. Paramount is making some big shifts on its 2025 release calendar, the biggest title dated being Edgar Wright’s reboot of The Running Man starring Glen Powell. The pic is going the Friday before Thanksgiving next year, on November 21.

Running Man will race against Wicked: Part Two on that date as well as Angel Studios’ David and a Warner Bros event movie.

In regards to this year, Paramount also said Friday that its awards-season contender September 5 is now opening November 29 limited before getting a December 13 expansion. Previously, the pic that world premiered at the Venice and Telluride film festivals was set to go on November 27. During his conversation with the former late night host, the Ferris Bueller’s Day Off star was asked if it was true he was asked to be in the romance drama multiple times and opted not to.

“Whenever there was a part that I could do, I couldn’t do it is really all that happened,” he explained. “But also sometimes, it was like, ‘Do you want to do two days as the premature ejaculator?’ And I’d be like, ‘You know, I don’t know. It’s just kind of embarrassing.’”

While it would’ve seemed likely that Parker approached him about guest starring in her show, that was never the case.

Perry Kurtz, a Los Angeles comedian who appeared on season eight of America’s Got Talent as well as on The Late Late Show with James Corden, has died in a hit-and-run collision. He was 73.

Kurts died Thursday when he was struck by a Honda Civic in Tarzana around 11:20 p.m., per the Los Angeles Police Department. His death was later confirmed by the L.A. Country Medical Examiner’s Office, the cause of death deemed to be blunt force injuries.
