Exclusive: Entertainment Squad, has acquired SXSW’s premiere film, Peak Season, and set a theatrical release for August 2.

Milana Vayntrub, the actress behind the popular AT&T commercial character Lily, has opened up about facing online sexual harassment and how she received support from fellow commercial star Stephanie Courtney, aka Flo from Progressive. In a new profile from the New York Times, Vayntrub recalled how she first auditioned for the character of Lily, an upbeat AT&T employee, when she was 26 years old and “dressed like I imagined a friendly girl would dress.” She became the face of the telecommunications company between 2013 and 2016 before taking a hiatus. However, she revived the character in 2020 during the pandemic, which she revealed was her own idea. “This time, Lily would be working from home. AT&T greenlit the proposal. Vayntrub directed the spots herself. She filmed the national ads in her own house, recreating Lily’s hair and makeup herself under the remote supervision of a professional,” the Times profile states. But after returning to the limelight,...

Milana Vayntrub has spoken out before about the online harassment she has faced for her portrayal of “Lily Adams,” a store manager in AT&T ads.
But in a New York Times story today, she revealed she received encouragement and support from an unlikely peer – Stephanie Courtney, who plays the character “Flo” in ads for Progressive Insurance.
Courtney contacted Vayntrub by phone when the online abuse was at its worse. Courtney was empathetic, and Vayntrub recalled that Courtney was a good listener. Talking to her peer made Vayntrub feel “like there were people on my team,” she said in the Times story.
In August of 2020, Vayntrub posted an Instagram livestream asking that the online harassment against her stop.
Vayntrub emotionally discussed how old photos of her have been manipulated into memes that generate lewd and vile responses.
“Maybe it just has to do with being a person on the internet, or...

If you don’t know the actor Milana Vayntrub by name, then chances are high that you would recognize her face. Since 2013, Vayntrub has been the on-and-off again star of many AT&T commercials as the character Lily, a jolly AT&T employee who has comedic interactions with customers. Vayntrub’s Lily was the face of a national AT&T campaign for three years before she took a hiatus and revived the character in 2020 for a series of pandemic-themed commercials.
Vayntrub is the subject of a new profile from The New York Times, in which she reflects on the highs and lows of her tenure playing Lily. She auditioned for the character as a 26-year-old and “dressed like I imagined a friendly girl would dress.” When the pandemic hit, Vayntrub herself pitched Lily’s return to AT&T.

The Groundlings will host an improv musical fundraising event on Oct. 26, featuring Ana Gasteyer, Kristen Bell, Kristen Wiig and Will Forte. The event, held at the Performing Arts Center at Vista Del Mar, will benefit the Motion Picture & Television Fund to support below-the-line workers impacted by the strikes.
“One Night Only,” created and directed by Groundlings Main Company member Andrew Leeds, is a full production of a well-known Broadway musical. The catch? The improvisers are given the script and their roles only 24 hours in advance.
“These strikes have taken a terrible toll on our amazing crews, and it isn’t over yet. Even with the WGA strike ending, most crew members won’t be able to start work again until the SAG-AFTRA deal is ratified,” Leeds said in a statement. “Even then, many will be fighting to survive as they wait for productions to start back up.

Collaboration in comedy can be hard. The genre is largely subjective and funny people have differing perspectives on what is and isn’t funny. But what about when one comedic collaborator is an apple that hasn’t fallen too far from the other’s comedy tree, so to speak?

After a strange situation happens on the Fourth of July, everything changes for the town that’s used to coming in second. "I hate optimistic people. They bum me out with their upbeat attitude." Netflix has unveiled a trailer for a dark comedy called Girlfriend's Day, co-written by and starring Bob Odenkirk as a greeting card writer. The wacky plot involves Odenkirk getting entangled in a web of murder and deceit as writers vie to create the perfect card for a new holiday: Girlfriend's Day. It's described as a "clever and quirky story about love, loss and the worst place to get a paper cut." The full cast includes Amber Tamblyn, Natasha Lyonne, Ed Begley Jr, Stacy Keach, Rich Sommer, June Diane Raphael, Andy Richter, Stephanie Courtney and Echo Kellum. This looks much darker and weirder than expected, but I'm not so sure about this one. Here's the trailer (+ poster) for Michael Paul Stephenson's Girlfriend's Day, from Netflix's YouTube: Ever wonder who penned the perfect words to the Mother's Day card you sent last year?...

If all goes as planned, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill will reunite on the silver screen in 2015 for Star Wars: Episode VII, a movie set in the hours, days, years, decades or eons after Darth Vader’s torchlight funeral near the piney stomping grounds of the Ewoks. But when they reach the set next year, the actors will be 30 years removed from Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. A new generation of heroes and villains will clearly be needed to move the franchise on to Episode VIII and beyond, but how to accomplish that?

Is Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner secretly a nostalgic Millennial? It sure seems that way, considering the actors who have popped up on Mad Men lately. Sure, big-ish names like Julia Ormond have made appearances on the show — but their numbers are dwarfed by the veterans from Gen Y touchstones like The Secret World of Alex Mack, Clarissa Explains It All, 10 Things I Hate About You, Gilmore Girls, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and even Saved by the Bell who have been invading AMC’s flagship series for years. This might indicate that Weiner and his casting directors love the late...

As the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers prepare to hustle for this year’s Super Bowl, the Big Shill — our bracket game that rewards advertising’s greatest icon — is all about Flo, the perky Progressive Insurance Girl played by actress Stephanie Courtney. That’s right: Though the Pillsbury Doughboy, Super Bowl ad favorites the Budweiser Clydesdales, and more did their darndest to stomp on her bumpit, they ultimately were no match for the overenthusiastic saleswoman. So it’s official: Picking up over 73 percent of the vote (the Pillsbury Doughboy finished with almost 27 percent), Flo rides to Big Shill victory on her white motorcycle.

If there was any doubt about the bonafides of our two Big Shill finalists, it was erased by their convincing Final Four victories over two advertising powerhouses from the old school. Flo the Progressive Insurance Lady treated the Budweiser Clydesdales worse than the poor pony at the end of True Grit, clinching Flo’s spot in the final by more than 41 percentage points. And the Pillsbury Doughboy just kept giggling creepily while Mrs. Butterworth — sweet ol’ Mrs. Butterworth — attempted to repeatedly tap-out during his 50 point rout.
Now the two steely icons are poised for one last shillanigan. Yesterday’s battlefields...

After four rounds of Big Shill madness, the wheat has risen. The cream has been separated from the chaff. Three old-school advertising icons have reached the Final Four, joined by one young upstart who’s rallied an army and stuck a stake through the hearts of the competition. Flo the Progressive Insurance Lady isn’t just an enthusiastic ambassador for her product, she’s a warrior. Just ask the debonair Old Spice Guy, who was rudely sent home on the horse he rode in on. Flo is ruthless, but now she faces her biggest challenge yet: the Budweiser Clydesdales, who...

Today’s Big Shill bracket game quarterfinal matchups feature four powerhouse advertising icons. On one side of the draw is Tony the Tiger, who squashed the Geico Gecko to get to this point. But now he’s facing a stampede of Budweiser Clydesdales that just trampled the Energizer Bunny by a convincing 15 percentage points. (The pink, floppy-haired hipster is no longer going and going.) On the other side of the bracket is Flo, the Progressive Insurance Lady, who’s been boosted by a surprising amount of online support against a trio of impressive opponents: First, she outmuscled the Brawny Lumberjack by 33 percentage points,...

Welcome to the eighth day of EW’s Big Shill Bracket Game, brought to you by interesting grooming habits! For this round — the last in the top 64 — Colonel Sanders’ Van Dyke beard faces off against the Empire Carpet Guy’s well-installed upper-lip hair, while the Brawny Lumberjack’s disappearing mustache battles Flo, the Progressive Girl’s mountainous poof. But, wait! There’s more! A bathroom cleaner tries to wash away Honey Nut Cheerios’ king bee, and a disembodied hand attempts to grab the win from a hip tuna. Check out the entire bracket here to see the other shillers battling for advertising supremacy,...

When House and Cuddy take their relationship outside "House's" apartment, all sorts of fireworks fly at Princeton Plainsboro.
Huddy
House and Cuddy's day of playing, ahem, house is over and now they have to work together. House naturally is shouting their relationship from the rooftops, while Cuddy is only concerned with telling Human Resources, where they have to sign one of Michael Scott's "love contracts." Wilson doesn't believe House when he hears and Cuddy's grabbing of House's crotch to prove it (and House's subsequent barely-contained glee) is one of the best moments of the episode.
Unfortunately, along with the relationship comes House "folding like an origami crane" every time he and Cuddy butt heads. Where he normally would barge ahead and be the rogue doctor we all know and love, now he's Cuddy's lap dog.
When Cuddy figures out what he's doing, she tries to find him a new supervisor.

The nominees for the 2010 Streamys were announced today. The Streamys celebrate online television programming and this year they have a fantastic line up of nominees. Last year was the Streamys debut year and the winners included high profile shows such as Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and the exceptional Battlestar Galactica web series The Face of the Enemy.
This year there is even more competition with some really interesting content now being released on the web rather than through more traditional media routes. Two of my favourites from this year’s nominee list are the excellent Interview Project which is presented by davidlynch.com and the slightly flawed but thoroughly enjoyable Angel of Death, created by Ed Brubaker and starring Zoe Bell, which also received a DVD release last year.
The awards ceremony takes place on April 11th 2010 and the full list of nominees is listed below with handy links...

After years of doing improv theatre, commercials and small roles on TV and in movies, Stephanie Courtney hit it big as the delightfully quirky Flo, a happy-to-help insurance expert in the commercials for Progressive.com. What started out as an audition like any other has led to more than 20 finished spots (watch them here), which she says can take more than a day to film. With her retro style and super sweet demeanor, Flo has caught the eye of bloggers who have said she's "so goshdarned perky she makes Kelly Ripa look like Amy Winehouse" and called her a "babelicious brunette" with "kissable red,...
