- He's a graduate of Highland Park High School in Dallas, Texas.

- For his first SAG acting job in the Vietnam War-era film The Walking Dead (1995), trained with legendary Hollywood military adviser Dale Dye in the swamps of central Florida.
- In 2016, ABC bought Jones' comedy pilot Wheeler Dealer, inspired by his sister's real life experiences running a West Texas car dealership.
- Was hired several times to appear on Seinfeld but his parts kept getting cut for time. Seinfeld co-creator Larry David promised to get him on a future episode and was true to his word--Jones was eventually cast as Watkins in one of the series' final episodes "The Maid", where he ruined George Costanza's attempt to nickname himself "T-Bone.".
- Directed, produced and edited Maria Bamford's one-woman series The Maria Bamford Show (2007-08) for the Turner comedy website SuperDeluxe, which was shot entirely in Jones' Burbank home. Jones later co-created the show Benched (USA, 2014) and hired Bamford as part of the ensemble cast.
- Created the role of 'Serenity' on Halfway Home (Comedy Central, 2007) specifically for friend Octavia Spencer.
- Tested for the role of Michael Scott in The Office (NBC, 2005).
- Jones cast Oscar Nuñez in the ensemble of Benched (USA, 2014). Nuñez was a co-creator of the series Halfway Home (Comedy Central, 2007) with Jones and Kevin Ruf.
