Since the concept of live-action adaptations has been introduced in the industry, there have been multiple projects pertaining to the art form, but only one of them was able to earn worldwide recognition. This project was none other than the One Piece live-action adaptation based on the manga series created by the legendary mangaka Eiichiro Oda.

The general opinion of the masses is that the One Piece live-action adaptation might be the only successful series that manages to leave an impression almost as big as the anime and manga. Not only that, it even started a wave that led to other prominent materials following One Piece in its path of becoming the only franchise to have an accomplished live-action adaptation.
And the credit for all this goes to Oda himself, who contributed majorly to the live-action. Without him, there was a big chance that the...

For decades, Hollywood has attempted to adapt Japanese anime and manga into live-action films and TV series, with mixed results. While some have been successful, many have failed to capture the essence of their source material. The struggle to translate anime’s unique storytelling and artistry into a different medium remains a significant challenge, one that even industry leaders recognize.

John Landgraf, the producer behind the critically acclaimed Shogun series, recently addressed this issue. Discussing the success of Shogun and the expansion of Japanese media worldwide, Landgraf was asked whether live-action adaptations of manga and anime could revitalize Hollywood.
Why anime is hard to adapt?: John Landgraf says ‘They are already the best of the best’
In an interview with Business Insider, John Landgraf explained, “I myself have come to appreciate the greatness of Japanese manga through my son.

Director Fede Alvarez recently brought us a new installment in the Alien franchise with his movie Alien: Romulus, but we already have another new Alien project to look forward to. Fargo TV series creator Noah Hawley has been developing an Alien TV series for “FX on Hulu” for the last couple years, and below you’ll find Everything We Know About the Alien TV Series!
The Setting
One of the first things we heard about the Alien series – and one of the most surprising things about it – is that it will actually be set on Earth, a couple decades before the events of the first movie. FX chairman John Landgraf has said the show will take place “right near the end of this century”, and a late-2090s setting would place this between the prequel films Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. Hawley decided to set the show on Earth because “The alien stories are always trapped…...

The Alien franchise is set to continue on the small screen with an “FX on Hulu” TV series called Alien: Earth, from Fargo creator Noah Hawley. The show began filming in Thailand back in 2023, then had to halt production after a month due to the actors strike. Filming resumed in early 2024 and wrapped last summer, with a teaser trailer dropping back in November to let us know that the show is aiming for a Summer 2025 premiere. A specific premiere date hasn’t been announced yet, but a new teaser trailer has dropped online that the show is coming soon. You can check it out in the embed above.

The television business has a habit of repeating itself.
Five years after NBC Entertainment and Universal Television were separated in a realignment that combined all NBCUniversal TV production divisions into Universal Studio Group, the broadcast network and studio are back together — along with the rest of Usg — under one creative executive, Usg chairman Pearlena Igbokwe, who will now also oversee Peacock scripted. The restructuring revealed this week by NBCUniversal Entertainment & Studios chairman Donna Langley, which includes Frances Berwick running Bravo and Peacock unscripted, with Lisa Katz expected to continue overseeing NBC and Peacock scripted under Igbokwe, feels like vertical integration 2.0 in the era of streaming.

FX chairman John Landgraf explained why the network decided to bring What We Do In The Shadows to a close with season 6 of the supernatural comedy series. The FX series follows four vampires and their exhausted familiar sharing a home on Staten Island among other creatures of the night as they hide among everyday humans. Inspired by Taika Waititi's 2014 mockumentary comedy of the same name, FX's series was developed by the movie's co-director Jemaine Clement and stars Kayvan Novak, Harvey Guillen, Natasia Demetriou, Matt Berry, and Mark Proksch.
Despite the hilarious vampire comedy being a continued hit, What We Do In The Shadows season 6 brought the Staten Island vampire's story to a close. However, despite the decision confusing many fans, John Landgraf revealed why the network decided to end the comedy during FX's 2024 TCA panel, which was attended by Screen Rant. As far as comedy TV shows in the last ten years go, it's hard to find one more beloved than "What We Do in the Shadows." Premiering on FX in 2019, the series was based on the movie of the same name by Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement. Yet, as good as some things are, they must inevitably end.
The "What We Do in the Shadows" season 6 finale served as the series finale, with the vampires saying goodbye after more than 60 episodes and over five years on the air. The decision was made before the season started, however, so it's not as though this came as a surprise to any of the creatives involved, nor for any viewers who stay tuned into the news.

Right now, FX on Hulu's Shōgun is the show of the moment. Not only did the series earn overwhelmingly positive reception from critics and pick up millions upon millions of streams, but Shōgun won 18 Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Drama Series. To add to its good fortune, the series just swept the Golden Globes, too, taking home all four awards it was up for.
Even though Shōgun was originally intended to exist as a limited series, its pop cultural explosion naturally led to FX and Hulu rethinking the strategy. Now, a second and third season are in active development, and following the show's domination at the 2025 Golden Globes, fans received a major update on the status of the highly anticipated season 2.
But it's not all good news. Depending on how you view the update — glass half full vs. glass half empty — you might be excited or you might be disappointed.

After Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi’s 2014 movie What We Do in the Shadows received positive response from the audience and critics, they created a TV series of the same name.
The sci-fi mockumentary drama that revolves around a vampire universe debuted on the FX network in 2019. The series, which was executive-produced by Paul Simms finally concluded with season six on December 16, 2024.
Over the years, the show became massively popular among the fans, so much so, that the creators threw in an extra episode in the last season instead of their regular 10-episode-a-season rule for their loyal fandom.

American Horror Story is one of FX’s most successful series to date, airing for 12 cycles (and 132 episodes) since 2011 and winning 17 Emmys along the way. In January 2020, the cable network made the bold decision to renew Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk‘s horror anthology series for three more installments — Season 11, Season 12, and Season 13. That ensures the flagship show will be on our TV screens through at least the year 2025. Scary good!

While discussing the range of budgets for FX Networks’ projects, she highlighted the impressive start for this anticipated series.
Walden had the chance to watch the first three episodes of ‘Alien: Earth,’ and she was thoroughly impressed. She described them as ‘excellent‘ and noted that the series ‘feels huge.’
This show is a critical venture for FX Networks, under the guidance of John Landgraf, and Walden’s praise suggests they are on the right track.

After six seasons and 61 hilarious episodes, What We Do in the Shadows concludes with its series finale on Dec. 16, 2024. The sixth and final season began its bittersweet run back in October, and even though each preceding season contained 10 episodes, the FX fan-favorite threw in one extra episode as parting gift for its loyal viewers.
Obviously, that means that after Dec. 16 there will be no more new episodes of What We Do in the Shadows on FX. Back in June 2022, the cable network renewed the series for its fifth and sixth seasons ahead of the season 4 premiere, and in December 2023, after the dual Hollywood labor strikes were resolved, season 6 was confirmed to be the last.

Six days before the debut of “Shōgun” last February, John Landgraf was worried about the “Endless Scroll.”
Sitting with his feet propped up on a low table in his office on the Fox lot in Los Angeles, the longtime head of FX explained what he meant with his signature soft-spoken, brainy intensity. The “endless scroll” is not a talisman from “Shōgun” or an artifact of the Middle Ages but rather a symptom of our times. It refers to the never-ending stream of content that so many of us now have at our fingertips.
When asked if he was worried viewers wouldn’t turn out for the most expensive production in the 30-year history of FX, Landgraf paused to think. Any butterflies he had about the show’s launch, he said finally, were wrapped up in his larger concern about the “endless scroll” effect that may be training us to have shorter and shorter attention spans.

Larry David became a client of business manager Matt Lichtenberg in 1984, shortly after David landed a writing job on “Saturday Night Live.” David wasn’t looking for representation at the time, but Matt Lichtenberg cornered him outside the Improv comedy club in New York and insisted that David take him on as a manger.
A year later, when David was let go from “SNL,” he began a four-year run in which he “did not earn a penny.” The memory of how Lichtenberg kept him on as a client and kept paying his bills in those lean years caused David, the wildly successful co-creator and showrunner of “Seinfeld” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” to choke up slightly when he presented Lichtenberg on Wednesday with the kudo as Business Manager of the Year at Variety‘s Business Managers Breakfast presented by City National Bank.

FX chairman John Landgraf has a bulletin for a battered and bruised entertainment industry: People love traditional television.
After a decade of brinksmanship in content spending among the largest media conglomerates, old-school TV shows along the lines of procedural dramas and multicamera sitcoms fell far out of favor with the creative community. But viewers never gave up on these tried and true forms. That’s one big lesson that Landgraf has learned during the past few years as FX has embarked on a journey of transformation into a branded hub on Hulu (and Disney+ outside the U.S.) while also maintaining its roots as a linear, ad-supported cable channel.
Speaking Nov. 19 at Variety‘s Business Managers Breakfast in West Hollywood, Landgraf noted that the norms have shifted so much that the industry’s challenge is to find a way to bring some of the old model’s protocols into a...

The Alien franchise is set to continue on the small screen with an “FX on Hulu” TV series called Alien: Earth, from Fargo creator Noah Hawley. The show began filming in Thailand last year, then had to halt production after a month due to the actors strike. Filming resumed earlier this year and wrapped a few months ago – and now a teaser trailer has made its way online to let us know that the show has a Summer 2025 premiere window! You can check it out in the embed above.
One of the first things we heard about the Alien TV series – and one of the most surprising things about it – is that it will be set on Earth (thus the title), a couple of decades before the events of the first movie. FX chairman John Landgraf has said the show will take place “right near the end of this century.

What We Do in the Shadows is one of FX’s most beloved series, with an incredible 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The series documents the nightly exploits of vampire roommates Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) as they navigate the modern world of Staten Island with the help of their former familiar and current human friend, Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) as well as their vampire bureaucrat acquaintance, The Guide (Kristen Schaal).
Season 6 is now airing on the network, and now, fans are curious whether they can expect to see a seventh season.

Unfortunately, What We Do in the Shadows will end with Season 6.
FX chairman John Landgraf explained very simply why the network has decided to bring the show to a close during FX’s TCA panel: “The show came to a natural conclusion. It was a great six year run.

[This story contains major spoilers from the season finale of Grotesquerie.]
The plot of Grotesquerie may be more confusing than ever after the season finale’s cliffhanger ending. But one message that’s interwoven into the themes of women’s (and men’s) rights, AI and climate change that are explored in the Ryan Murphy horror series couldn’t be clearer for star Lesley Manville ahead of next week’s presidential election. “Be careful what you vote for,” the British actress tells The Hollywood Reporter of a takeaway for American viewers. “Think very carefully before you put your tick in the ballot box.”
Manville starts out playing Nurse Redd in the FX horror series, later appearing simply as Redd, the lover to Lois’ (Niecy Nash-Betts) husband Marshall (Courtney B. Vance) following the episode seven unveiling that the original characters in the story were projections created by Lois while in a liminal state. Marshall, who was originally thought to be in...

Given Breaking Bad‘s reputation, one would assume that networks might’ve been on their toes to claim the Vince Gilligan-led production, but this couldn’t be more far from the truth. While Gilligan’s pitch for the crime drama succeeded in getting Sony Pictures Television execs on board, things didn’t go exceptionally well when it came to his search for a network.

Grotesquerie is one of Ryan Murphy‘s latest TV show hits!
In the 10-episode drama series for FX, a series of heinous crimes have unsettled a small community. Detective Lois Tryon feels these crimes are eerily personal, as if someone—or something—is taunting her.
The series stars Niecy Nash-Betts, Courtney B. Vance, Lesley Manville, Micaela Diamond, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Raven Goodwin and Travis Kelce.
With Season 1 coming to an end, fans are curious about whether it will be picked up for a second season.
Keep reading to find out more…
Grotesquerie has not yet been renewed for Season 2, but the show bosses are interested in having a second season.
Ryan Murphy and FX boss John Landgraf spoke out about the possibility in an interview with THR.
“We’re definitely considering doing more because, as you’ll see at the end, it’s like a series of Russian nesting dolls.

We come bearing good news The Bear fans! And yes, that was sort of pun intended. Thanks to a recent filming update provided by Chairman of FX John Landgraf, it sounds like The Bear season 4 is on track to arrive on time based on the promising filming update he provided. And that's always great news!
Landgraf was recently a guest on The Town with Matthew Belloni podcast where he shared at what point production is at the moment in terms of filming. Ahead of season 3's debut, FX announced that the show had been renewed for a season 4. There were also rumors that the third and fourth season were filming at the same time. And the chairman confirmed this on the podcast. Here's what he had to say, per Collider:
Out of 20 episodes, they shot about 16 and a half. So they can go back in production in February to finish.

An FX executive has revealed that filming for The Bear will resume soon, with a significant number of episodes already completed. The Hulu series follows Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White), a young fine dining chef who returns to Chicago to take over his late brother's sandwich shop, grappling with the realities of running a small business and managing the dynamics of a strong-willed kitchen staff. The series gained instant popularity for its intense kitchen drama and multi-layered story progression, becoming one of FX's current flagship programs.
According to Collider, FX Chairperson John Landgraf spoke about the status of season 4 on The Town of Matthew Belloni podcast. He confirms that the simultaneous filming process between season 3 and season 4 has led to about sixteen and a half completed episodes. If this accounts for the 10 season 3 episodes, this means about six and a half episodes are finalized. Additionally, Landgraf confirmed that filming...

FX CEO John Landgraf has addressed The Bear season 3's mixed reception from critics and audiences, while also offering a tantalizing taste of season 4. Although The Bear season 3 got positive reviews from many critics, who cited the series' compelling characters and cinematography as major highlights, it was divisive for some critics and audiences who saw it slow down from season 2's faster pace. Season 3 currently holds a 51% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, with many citing it as too drawn out and not as compelling as previous installments.
Speaking with Puck, however, Landgraf explained how The Bear creator, Chris Storer, asked for both seasons 3 and 4 in order to complete the storyline he had in mind. The CEO defended season 3 as the version of the show its creator was going for, but admitted the season's theme of being stuck meant it wasn't always as "riveting" as the previous installments. Last week, FX’s Grotesquerie threw us for a loop with one of the biggest plot twists of the year. Now, make no mistake…I said it’s one of the biggest plot twists, not one of the best plot twists. Just because the spin on a story is huge does not make it a great one. In this case, Grotesquerie episode 7, titled “Unplugged,” failed to impress in my book.
From what I read on social media, the majority of viewers agree with me. We have spent seven episodes following a story that turned out to be a dream. And now, we have one episode left and so much to cover, so many questions! Will Grotesquerie be able to win us back?
That’s right, after the double episode night on Oct. 23, there is only one left! Grotesquerie is set to feature a total of 10 episodes. At the time of this writing,...

The future of American Horror Story beyond its 13th season looks promising, according to creator Ryan Murphy. The anthology series, known for its creepy themes and revolving cast, has been a staple of horror TV since 2011. Over the years, it has featured fan-favorite actors like Sarah Paulson, Jessica Lange, and Evan Peters. American Horror Story: Delicate is the latest installment of the show, and while this season was the first one Murphy did not run, he remains positive about the future of the show.
In a recent interview with TheWrap, Murphy opened up about stepping back from AHS: Delicate and how the series might evolve with different showrunners at the helm. Despite his continued involvement with the design and vision of Delicate, Murphy explained how juggling multiple projects restricted his presence on set. He explained that his involvement with the show depends on the creative direction of each season, teasing...

Ryan Murphy certainly has his executive-producer hands full — his shows Monsters, 9-1-1, 9-1-1: Lone Star, American Horror Stories, American Sports Story, Doctor Odyssey, and Grotesquerie have all launched new seasons in recent weeks. But where’s the next American Horror Story season? Fall 2024 is only the second AHS-less fall since the FX show’s 2011 premiere. Season 12, dubbed Delicate, ended in April, and there’s no airdate for a 13th season. Scream not, horror fans. Murphy and FX chairman John Landgraf assure fans that Season 13 is coming, and it might involve a big cast reunion. Murphy tells Variety he hasn’t “really landed” on the Season 13 idea yet, though there’s “a couple things in contention.” And, he says, he often thinks of “the original gangster cast,” i.e. Season 1 stars Connie Britton, Dylan McDermott, Evan Peters, Taissa Farmiga, Denis O’Hare, and Jessica Lange. Ryan Murphy has addressed the confusion surrounding comparisons between his new horror project Grotesquerie, and his long-standing series, American Horror Story. While both shows share Murphys recognizable world-building and casting, Grotesquerie is a standalone project with a distinct tone and focus, leaning into existential horror and social commentary rather than traditional scares.
In an interview with Deadline, Murphy responded to criticism that Grotesquerie should have been under the American Horror Story banner, or that Aaron Hernandezs story wouldve been better suited as a new season of American Crime Story rather than the first installment in the new FX anthology series, American Sports Story. Murphy said that he "strongly disagrees" and that Grotesquerie has nothing to do with AHS. Read his quote below:
Grotesquerie has nothing in common with American Horror Story. It just does not. I think its the difference between doing Dont Look Now and Halloween would could never have fit into that show.

Note: The following story contains spoilers from “Grotesquerie” Episode 7.
“Grotesquerie” star Micaela Diamond always knew Episode 7 was going to be a challenge. Even by the wild standards of this FX show from Ryan Murphy, Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken, “Unplugged” is on an entirely different level.
“Episode 7 is like if ‘Fatal Attraction’ was directed by Luis Buñuel except it’s ‘Grotesquerie’ and Max Winkler is just a genius,” Diamond told TheWrap of the game-changing installment.
After six episodes spent investigating a serial killer known only as Grotesquerie, Lois (Niecy Nash-Betts) finally uncovered that the killer was none other than Father Charlie (Nicholas Alexander Chavez). As everyone around her celebrated, Lois couldn’t shake the feeling that the case hadn’t been fully solved. That’s when she zeroed in on her partner in solving the crimes, Sister Megan (Diamond). Ryan Murphy has heard the questions about the naming conventions of his various FX series, but he doesn’t see the validity in them.
The TV mogul tells Deadline that he would “strongly disagree” with suggestions that Grotesquerie should have been under the American Horror Story banner, or that Aaron Hernandez’s story would’ve been better suited as a new installment of American Crime Story rather than the first in a new anthology series, American Sports Story.

Note: This story contains spoilers from “Grotesquerie” Episode 7.
After the first six episodes, you would be forgiven for thinking “Grotesquerie” is just another Ryan Murphy show — a thriller filled with larger-than-life characters, brilliant actors and lovingly rendered horror. But like “American Horror Story,” “American Crime Story” and “Pose” before it, “Grotesquerie” marks a huge creative swing for the acclaimed showrunner. And it all comes down to Episode 7’s big twist.
“I’ve never done anything that worked out in advance, that meticulously designed,” series co-creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy told TheWrap. “It was so fun to do.”
It’s a fitting addition for a fall that marks Murphy’s official return to FX under its new parent company, Disney.
In its first six episodes, “Grotesquerie” tells the story of Lois Tryon (Niecy Nash-Betts), an alcoholic detective whose husband is trapped in a coma. When a serial killer with a knack for staging morbid,...

[This story contains major spoilers from the seventh episode of Grotesquerie.]
Nothing in the marketing for FX horror series Grotesquerie tipped viewers off that this Ryan Murphy show is not what it seems. And, that was intentional. Because when the seventh episode of the Niecy Nash-Betts-starring series released, Murphy wanted a collective gasp from viewers. And that’s exactly what he got when the extended hour released on Wednesday night.
“The very fact that none of this got out is a miracle in today’s modern age,” Murphy, who co-created, wrote and directed Grotesquerie tells The Hollywood Reporter in a chat with his collaborative partner, John Landgraf, Chairman of FX Content & FX Productions.
The twist was so big, and the rollout was so unique, that the pair sat down with THR to unpack their master plan: Grotesquerie is a drama series, they say, that will continue to unravel twist after twist, leading up to a finale cliffhanger that will...

Spoiler Alert! This post contains major spoilers for Episode 7 of FX’s Grotesquerie.
Audiences were probably wondering how FX’s Grotesquerie would sustain another four episodes when Niecy Nash’s Lois Tryon had seemingly caught (and killed) the serial killer on the loose.
Well, things take a massive turn in Episode 7 with the revelation that viewers have not known reality up to this point. Instead, the hunt for a serial killer that they’ve watched unfold has been happening in Lois’ head. Her husband, Marshall (Courtney B. Vance) isn’t the one in a coma. She is.
Sister Megan isn’t a squirly nun at all, but rather the new Chief Detective who effectively stole Lois’ job. Lois’ daughter Merritt (Raven Goodwin) is actually a well-educated cancer researcher, and the dreamy nurse Eddie (Travis Kelce) is her husband. At least, he was until he had an affair with Lois prior...

Kurt Sutter has left his new Netflix show, according to multiple media reports. The showrunner best known for creating “Sons of Anarchy” departed “The Abandons” three weeks before production was scheduled to wrap in Calgary.
The upcoming Western drama stars Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson. Its executive producer and director Otto Bathurst as well as its co-exec producer Rob Askins will oversee the rest of the shoot. No new showrunner has been named. It’s been reported that the departure came down to creative differences.
TheWrap reached out to Netflix and representatives for Sutter for comment.
Set in the 1850s, “The Abandons” follows Fiona Nolan (Headey), a devout Irish woman who is incapable of conceiving a child. Believing in a higher purpose, she tries to build a family by adopting four orphans. But it isn’t long before she begins to face hardship after European aristocrats claim possession of her new home in Oregon.

FX has picked up Sterlin Harjo’s drama pilot starring Ethan Hawke, Deadline has confirmed.
We broke the news in February that the project had been given a pilot order which reunites Harjo, co-creator, executive producer and showrunner of the network’s acclaimed series Reservation Dogs, with Hawke, who appeared in the Emmy-nominated series’ penultimate episode.
Created by Harjo, the drama is a Tulsa noir about a guy (Hawke) who knows too much.
The pilot cast includes Keith David, Siena East, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Tim Blake Nelson, Scott Shepherd, Tracy Letts , Kyle Maclachlan and Macon Blair.
We spoke to Harjo on the red carpet at the Emmy’s (video above), where he shared his excitement over his new collaboration with Hawke.
“There’s a pilot I made this year called The Sensitive Kind starring Ethan Hawke—I think it’s coming,” he shared.
When I asked him if that meant it was picked up,...

Over the course of 10 days, Ryan Murphy released four new shows — “American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez” and “Grotesquerie” at FX, “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” at Netflix and “Doctor Odyssey” at ABC — and premiered new seasons of returning hits “9-1-1: Lone Star” at Fox and “9-1-1” at ABC.
“Six shows in a month is a lot, but everybody in my company worked really, really hard, and miraculously, they all worked,” Murphy told Variety during a conversation on Oct. 1. “They all launched at No. 1 and individually, they’re all doing really, really well.”
Everything coming out at once “wasn’t really planned that way,” Murphy said, but happened as part of his new deal at Disney, which he’s a year and a half into.
“It was a combination of the writers strike and my new deal. They asked me, when we finally realized, six things are coming out over the course of 10 days,...

Ryan Murphy is having a banner fall.
The viewership numbers for his buzzy Netflix series “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” are very good. In its second week of eligibility, the true crime drama created by Murphy and Brad Falchuk secured 19.5 million views on Netflix, holding on to the No. 1 English-language TV series from last week and becoming the most watched Netflix title of the week. This comes after the second season of the crime series saw 12.3 million views in its first four days of availability.
In fact, the numbers for nearly every one of the super producer’s fall shows spanning four different networks and streamers have been, well, monster hits. In the past 10 days, Murphy launched or returned five different series across network and cable including the new “American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez” and “Grotesquerie” on FX and the new “Doctor Odyssey” on ABC as well as...

In 2013, at the height of his NFL power, New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez shot and killed Odin Lloyd. In 2015, a jury found him guilty of first-degree murder. And, in 2017, he was discovered hanging in his prison sell and pronounced dead an hour later.
The inaugural season of American Sports Story aims to unravel how an auspicious football career went so far off the rails — but, just as importantly to its producers, how massive enterprises like the NFL and NCAA football and the hundred million-plus viewers they court played a role in the tragedy. “We’re trying to talk about our obsession with this national religion of football, while also telling a story about what happens when a complicated and flawed individual intersects with systems of power,” executive producer Brad Simpson tells The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s a stew of things that make it bigger than just a tabloid true crime story.

During the 76th annual Primetime Emmys, FX did the unthinkable: It beat both HBO and Netflix.
The Disney-owned basic cable network scored a total of 93 Emmy nominations, winning 36 awards compared to Netflix’s 24 and HBO’s 14. HBO, a longtime Emmys champion, has been beaten before — Netflix pulled a historic 44 wins in 2021 compared to HBO’s 19.
What’s notable now is that the poster child for award-winning television came in third on Sunday.
“I don’t think just because HBO had a slightly down year they’re going anywhere. I easily could find them back on top,” FX Networks chairman John Landgraf told TheWrap in a post-Emmys interview, as praise for Disney came pouring in for daring shows like “Shōgun,” “The Bear” and an audience favorite, Ron Howard’s “Jim Henson Idea Man.”
By contrast, HBO was the surprise winner for Best Comedy with “Hacks.”

Television’s biggest night took place in Century City, CA on September 14th, when Emmy Awards nominees and presenters, along with some of the most powerful entertainment industry influencers, joined together for MPTF’s 18th annual “Evening Before” benefit.
Attendees at MPTF's 18th annual "Evening Before" benefit
Co-Chaired by Greg Berlanti & Robbie Rogers, Jon Hamm & Anna Osceola Hamm, and Sheryl Lee Ralph, the annual event raised $2.5 million.
“I’m thrilled to be a co-chair of MPTF’s Evening Before benefit with Greg and Jon. MPTF really stepped up during a very challenging past couple of years to support the entertainment community, and I’m proud to be a part of a fundraiser that will help to sustain that vital support,” said co-chair Sheryl Lee Ralph.
Co-chair Jon Hamm added, “This incredible organization raises crucial funds and provides a host of other services for our industry family when they need it most.

The last time a company set a record for winning the most Emmys in a single year happened in 2021. That was when Netflix won 44 awards, an achievement that hadn’t been matched since CBS secured 44 wins in 1974. On Sunday, The Walt Disney Company beat both networks with 60 Emmy wins, 36 of which came from FX alone.
“The Emmys have been around for 78 years. Typically, if you have a well-established threshold of record in anything — whether it’s the 100-meter dash, the mile or, frankly, records in baseball — for 78 years, you don’t tend to see those records absolutely shattered,” FX networks chairman John Landgraf told TheWrap Monday. “But 60? That’s 35% higher than the highest number any company has ever achieved in 78 years of the Emmys. And so I’m thrilled.”

John Landgraf says that there’s still “magic” in the television business as evidenced by the likes of actors such as The Bear’s Liza Colón-Zayas beating Carol Burnett and Meryl Streep to win her first Emmy or Shōgun winning major awards.
It was a fantastic night for both FX and The Walt Disney Company, which broke a range of records at this year’s Emmys.
FX won 36 awards across Primetime Emmys and the Creative Arts Awards – its best ever total – and Disney took home 60 awards, beating previous records set by CBS and Netflix.

Did Dana Walden just inch a step closer to the frontrunner position for succession of the Walt Disney Company?
The impossibly svelte television executive stood triumphant in the middle of a massive post-Emmys fete on Sunday, as Disney took over the entire outdoor plaza of the Los Angeles Music Center downtown and dressed it with a dazzling tent, gorgeous flowers, sumptuous food and chic seating areas.
CEO Bob Iger hovered nearby like a proud papa, having sat supportively beside his star executive at the Emmy awards earlier in the evening. At his core, Iger is a TV guy – having come to Disney from Cap Cities/ABC in 1996 – and he was very much in his element.
There was a lot to celebrate. Disney certainly knew it was in for a big night at the Emmys, which aired on the company’s own ABC network. But even so they could not have...

The Alien franchise is set to continue on the small screen with an “FX on Hulu” TV series called Alien: Earth, from Fargo creator Noah Hawley. The show began filming in Thailand last year, then had to halt production after a month due to the actors strike. Filming resumed earlier this year and wrapped a couple of months ago – and while speaking to Deadline while on the Emmys red carpet, Hawley promised that the show will have Xenomorph moments that are so scary, it will make viewers lock their doors.
One of the first things we heard about the Alien TV series – and one of the most surprising things about it – is that it will be set on Earth (thus the title), a couple of decades before the events of the first movie. FX chairman John Landgraf has said the show will take place “right near the end of this century.

2016 was a pretty good year for FX as five wins at the Primetime Emmys for The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story helped it to a total 18 trophies at the 68th Emmy Awards.
Eight years on, with new owners in the shape of The Walt Disney Company, it was an even better night for John Landgraf’s team.
FX won 36 awards across Primetime Emmys and the Creative Arts Awards, helped by record-breaking showings for Shōgun and The Bear. It was FX’s best ever Emmy performance and its most significant since the night Courtney B. Vance, Sarah Paulson, Sterling K. Brown picked up awards for the Ryan Murphy-created limited series, as well as a win for Baskets’ Louie Anderson.
The network managed to break the hegemony of HBO and Netflix, which have been battling it out for most wins since the Reed Hastings-founded company entered original programming over a decade ago.
