- Andre Norton was born on February 17, 1912 in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. She was a writer, known for Witch World, BeastMaster (1999) and Beastmaster 2: Through the Portal of Time (1991). She died on March 17, 2005 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA.
- In February 2005, the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America created a new literary award, the Andre Norton Award, to recognize outstanding science fiction and fantasy novels written for the young adult market. It was named in her honor to recognize the great many YA novels that she wrote.
- Wrote more than 130 books in many genres during her 70-year career. She used a pen name (which she legally changed in 1934) because she expected her audience to be mostly young boys.
- Published books starting with every letter of the alphabet. In fact, has at least two books starting with every letter of the alphabet except 'U' and 'X'.
- In February 2005, she caught flu; she was soon hospitalized with pneumonia. Her doctors found a build-up of fluid around her heart leading to congestive heart failure, but shortly thereafter they released her to return home.
- In 1977 became the first woman to receive the Grand Master of Fantasy Award from the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA). Awarded that group's Nebula Grand Master Award in 1984.
