A potential release window for Resident Alien Season 4 may be coming into view thanks to a new production update. 

The Syfy comedy, whose third season ran from February to April of this year, stars Moana actor Alan Tudyk as an extraterrestrial being who crash lands in Colorado and is forced to adapt to life amongst humans. 

In June, Resident Alien was renewed for a fourth season, which creator Chris Sheridan has teased will "[embrace] more of the alien stuff" seen in the series.

NBCUniversal has renewed Resident Alien for a fourth season and will move the series from Syfy to USA Network.

Season three averaged 3.3 million total viewers (+4% vs. S2) and 1 million in the 18-49 demo (+36% vs. S2) across all platforms through 35 days.

Based on the Dark Horse comics, Resident Alien follows a crash-landed alien named Harry whose secret mission is to kill all humans. In season three, Harry vowed to work with General McCallister to rid the Earth of the Grey aliens, a task made more difficult when he discovered that the Grey Hybrid Joseph had taken a job in town as the new Deputy.

In addition, Harry struggled to balance business and his personal life when he fell in love for the first time. The series stars Alan Tudyk, Sara Tomko, Corey Reynolds, Alice Wetterlund, Levi Fiehler, Elizabeth Bowen, and Judah Prehn.

After three seasons on Syfy, the sci-fi/comedy series “Resident Alien” is getting a fourth season and moving over to the USA Network, Deadline reports this afternoon.

Deadline notes, “With the relocation to USA, NBCU is looking to expose Resident Alien to a broader audience, a crossover potential the series’ successful run on Netflix hinted at.”

“Like Season 3, Season 4 will be available on NBCU’s streamer Peacock, with future windowing plans still being worked out,” the website also notes in today’s fresh report.

“Resident Alien” is based on the same-titled line from Dark Horse Comics.

It’s official: Resident Alien has been renewed for a fourth season at a new NBCUniversal home, USA Network, moving from cable sibling Syfy.

As Deadline reported exclusively last month, the quirky sci-fi comedy-drama was not likely to continue on Syfy, with a move to USA as its most viable option to get a fourth season with a significant budget reduction. The transfer gives USA a second new scripted series, joining the recently picked up legal drama The Rainmaker as the once-thriving original scripted brand is returning to the arena with a slate influenced by the network’s glorious “Blue Sky” era that spanned most of the 2000s and early 2010s.

The idea is to expose the show to a broader audience, as USA Network tends to have a bit more reach than Syfy. Resident Alien has also recently gotten an awareness boost from Netflix picking up its first two seasons earlier this year.

The 2024 Atx TV Festival will close out its 13th season with a celebration of TV icon Norman Lear, Variety can exclusively announce.

“Norman Lear’s TV for the People: Script Reading and Conversation” will honor the legendary television producer and activist, who died in December 2023, with a night of comedy and conversation. There will be two live script readings — one of the groundbreaking abortion episode from “Maude” and the second of a classic episode from “Good Times.” Guest actors will read for each role, including Katey Sagal (in the role of “Maude”), Phil Rosenthal (in the role of “Walter Findlay”), Danny Pino (in the role of “Dr. Arthur Harmon”), Dulé Hill (in the role of “James Evans Sr.”).

The script readings will be followed by a conversation with Lear’s former collaborators and friends discussing his approach to TV and his ability to use the sitcom format to have important conversations.

Mark Duplass, star of The Morning Show, is to be handed the Excellence in Acting Award at the upcoming SeriesFest event.

The event is held in Denver between May 1 and 5 and features the likes of Minnie Driver and the cast of Grey’s Anatomy across its lineup.

Duplass, who also co-created HBO series Togetherness, is giving an Innovation Talk, where he will be handed the award. Duplass has also starred in The League, Goliath and The Mindy Project as well as being behind films such as The Puffy Chair and Cyrus as well as HBO’s anthology series Room 104 and a raft of documentaries including Evil Genius, Wild Wild Country and Sasquatch.

Harry’s determined to save the planet and he may be our only hope, according to the trailer for Syfy’s Resident Alien season three. The popular sci-fi comedy is set to kick off season three on Valentine’s Day 2024, with new episodes arriving on Wednesdays at 10pm Et/Pt (streaming on Peacock on Thursdays.)

As Deadline reported, Resident Alien received a 12-episode Season 3 renewal in July, ahead of the August 10 premiere of the second half of its second season. The series’ first season consisted of 10 episodes, its 16-episode second season was split into two batches of eight episodes each.

The UCP-produced Resident Alien was a breakout for Syfy when it premiered in 2021. The first part of Season 2 also did well, ranking among this year’s top 15 most-watched cable series and top 5 most-watched cable dramas, averaging 2.3 million viewers in L+7. The show’s ratings dropped significantly in the back half of Season 2.

Resident Alien is about much more than just Harry Vandesrpiegle (Alan Tudyk), a disguised alien pretending to be human in the town of Patience, Colorado. Yes, there’s plenty of awkward comedy as he tries to blend in and make sense of the oddities of human behavior, but the show also uses his abrasive personality and pointed commentary to illuminate the similar problems many of his neighbors are also dealing with.

That the show gives each and every member of its sprawling cast such clearly defined layers is part of the reason it’s so darn great to begin with, but what makes it truly remarkable is that these characters all have journeys and arcs of their own that exist completely separately from Harry and the threat of alien annihilation. Syfy’s Resident Alien will be staying on Earth for a while longer.

The NBCUniversal cable network has given an early third-season renewal to the series. The pickup comes three weeks ahead of Resident Alien’s return for the back half of its second season on Aug. 10.

Resident Alien stars Alan Tudyk as Harry, an extraterrestrial who’s sent to Earth on a mission to destroy all humans. After crash landing, he takes on the identity of a doctor and struggles with the moral ambiguity of his mission. The second half of season two will deal with the fallout from Asta’s (Sara Tomko) actions to save Harry’s life.

The show’s cast also includes Corey Reynolds, Elizabeth Bowen, Levi Fiehler, Meredith Garrettson, Alice Wetterlund and Judah Prehn.

Syfy has officially picked up Resident Alien Season 3.

Deadline first reported the news, revealing that the episode order is set to clock in at around 12 episodes.

It's unclear at this stage whether the cabler will employ the split season strategy adopted for Resident Alien Season 2.

The Alan Tudyk drama is set to return for the back half of its season on August 10.

The series ranks among this year’s top 15 most-watched cable series and top 5 most-watched cable dramas, averaging 2.3 million viewers in L+7.

Across all airings, it has reached nearly 11 million viewers, which is an excellent figure for a cable drama.

Syfy confirmed Friday that the Alan Tudyk-led dramedy will touch down on screens on Wednesday, August 10.

The second season was expanded and split down the middle, meaning we still have eight new episodes to look forward to.

Harry and Asta “must deal with the emotional fallout of the night all while searching for the alien baby — a search that leads to big realizations for each of them,” according to the description for the new episodes.

Syfy’s Resident Alien has officially set its summertime return: Season 2 will resume with Part 2 Wednesday, August 10 at 10/9c, the cabler announced Friday.

In addition to its return date, the network also dropped a brand new trailer for the season’s remaining eight episodes (watch the new clip above). The second half of Season 2 picks up in the immediate aftermath of Asta (Sara Tomko) shooting a Galvan/Powell goon dead in order to save Harry’s life.

Will Resident Alien‘s General McCallister ever come face to face with Alan Tudyk’s peculiar E.T. Harry Vanderspeigle? Even Linda Hamilton, the actress behind the show’s main antagonist, isn’t quite sure. Yet despite her limited screen time and the many questions surrounding her character’s looming presence, the actress is having a blast as she waits to unravel more of McCallister’s sinister plans.
