Ladislaus Vajda(1877-1933)

Scenarist, stage director. He began his career as a country actor, then
he became a journalist in Budapest at Tolnai Világlapja (The World
Papers of Tolnai) and Színházi Élet (Theater Life). Since 1908 he is
the director of the Hungarian Theater, since 1913 leading director,
since 1920 art director. At the end of 1922 he moved to Vienna, from
here to Berlin, and worked as a scenarist. His name is known through
his plays. In Budapest he wrote a series of silent production scripts
as the dramaturgist pf the Corvin factory. He became an expert known in
all Europe and a collegaue of G.W. Pabst. Of his fruitful, many sided
work the most prominent pieces are Jeanne Ney szerelme, written after
the novel of I. Ehrenburg, the global success Nyugati front and the
adaptation of Koldusopera, made in cooperation with the author of the
play, Brecht. His son is László Vajda Jr.(Ladislo Vajda) a known
filmdirector.
