When you go to a movie called “The Modelizer,” you assume certain things about your protagonist: that he’ll be a smooth-talking, pricelessly well-dressed cad, one who values women too much for certain assets (their looks) and not enough for others (everything else), and that the film will be engineered to give him a comeuppance. All that is true of “The Modelizer.”
What you don’t expect is that the movie, in this case, is going to take all that sexist-swinger-as-master-of-the-universe stuff and put it on one-percent-of-the-one-percent steroids. “The Modelizer” is set in Hong Kong, which the movie keeps reminding us is the most expensive city in the world. The hero, Shawn Koo (Byron Mann), is the scion of an outrageously wealthy Chinese real-estate family; they own one-third of the property in Hong Kong. Shawn, who sees each of his parents once a month and serves as their company’s managing director,...

Opening in theaters and on VOD July 14, Vertical’s “The Modelizer” offers a trailer that sells a romantic comedy that’s part of a new wave of “Hong Kong Films,” which are original features where the subject matter is distinctly Hong Kong but is in English.
Directed by Keoni Waxman and produced, written by and starring Byron Mann (who has seemingly aged about ten minutes since playing Ryu in the 1994 “Street Fighter” movie), the picture is a conventional mix of rom-com tropes (a well-off womanizer must change his ways once he finds someone – played by Rayssa Bratillieri — worth settling down for) and wealth porn, with the obvious hook being that it’s from a locale that isn’t often presented in such a fashion in mainstream Hollywood flicks.
The locale is usually for stranger-in-a-strange-land actioners like Dwayne Johnson’s “Skyscraper” (who co-starred Mann) and Rowann Atkinson’s “Johnny English Reborn...

"We all experience darkness." Okay sure, I guess we all do, so...? Cinedigm has revealed an official trailer for an indie crime thriller titled The Ravine, now opening in theaters and on VOD this May. This premiered last year at a few film festivals but nothing worth mentioning. Inspired by true events, The Ravine is a story of faith, forgiveness, and most of all, the restoration of hope – even for the most seemingly unredeemable among us. When an unspeakable crime rocks a peaceful community in Akron, Ohio, family and friends are left to wonder if they overlooked the murderer among them or if there might be more to the story. The film stars Eric Dane, Teri Polo, Peter Facinelli, and Leslie Uggams. It looks like yet another forgettable, bland "there's something bad going on in this town" film that there are a dime-a-dozen of already. Oh well. Here's the official...

Project Launch
Channing Tatum and Roy Lee are teaming up to produce a movie or television show based on the Image Comics series “The Maxx.”

The Maxx appears in both the real world as a homeless man and in an alternate reality as a powerful masked character protecting the Jungle Queen — who’s also a social worker named Julie Winters who frequently works to help the homeless man. The main question you’ll be asking yourself while watching Keoni Waxman’s Cartels will be, “Why is Steven Seagal still a thing?” Sure, the veteran action star had a galvanizing screen presence back in the day. And he made some surprisingly good movies, especially his debut, 1988’s Above the Law, and 1992’s Under Siege. But nostalgia only goes so far, and the aging actor, whose hair and goatee are amazingly still jet-black at the age of 65, has long been phoning it in. This vehicle is one of seven — count ‘em, seven — movies that Seagal made last year, and...

"Who the hell are you?" "I'm the guy you shoulda called when you went sideways." Lionsgate has dropped a trailer for yet another new Steven Seagal action movie, and it looks as terrible as his last one. The trailer is for a film called Cartels, formerly known as Killing Salazar. It's made by the same director who has made all of Seagal's recent movies, including Contract to Kill, which we featured a trailer for last year (did anyone actually watch it?). Cartels has some super cheesy, twisty plot involving a drug lord being captured, the DEA, and Seagal being Seagal. Also starring Georges St. Pierre, Martine Argent, Darren E. Scott, Massimo Dobrovic, and Luke Goss. I honestly don't even know why I bother with trailers for films like this, I'm never going to watch it, and I hope no one else will want to either. Move along, nothing to see here. Here's the newest official trailer (+ poster) for Keoni Waxman's ...

In his latest direct to DVD effort, Contract to Kill, Steven Seagal stars as Harmon, a CIA/DEA enforcer investigating Arab terrorists captured in Mexico. With his team: FBI agent Zara, and spy-drone pilot Sharp, he flies to Istanbul and uncovers a brutal plot by Islamic extremists – who plan to use Sonora drug-smuggling routes to bring deadly weapons, and leaders, into the U.S. To prevent an attack on America, Harmon must turn these two savage forces against one another before his time, and his luck, run out.
Yes, we’re back on the Steven Seagal bandwagon, with yet another film that, once again, sees writer/director Keoni Waxman working with Segal to craft another slice of direct to DVD action. In fact, if my maths is correct, Contract to Kill...

The rare Steven Seagal movie to open in American theaters, Contract To Kill is so crude and anti-cinematic—so fucking bad—that it becomes its own parody. It is a treasure, as are all of the god-awful movies put out by the onetime black belt with the help of his dedicated team of “whatever, sure” men. (This is writer-director Keoni Waxman’s third such film this year.) Seagal, in his triangular Bela-Lugosi-in-Dracula toupee and his clothes picked straight from a big-and-tall outlet store and his orange prescription Oakleys, walks stiffly and very slowly. It is possible that he never once bends at the waist. Most of the movie, he spends sitting down or walking (again, slowly) up and down flights of stairs. There is a love scene—and, Jesus, what a love scene. His fully dressed body is lowered over a naked woman like a drawbridge. He doesn’t ...

"I want to pick my own team, I want my own gear, and I need a jet." Lionsgate has debuted a trailer for a new action movie starring Steven Seagal, and if you've seen any of his other recent work, you know what to expect with this (which means - not much). Contract to Kill stars Seagal as a CIA enforcer investigating Arab terrorists captured in Mexico. His team includes actors Russell Wong and Jemma Dallender, and they're chasing after Ghassan Bouz as Abdul Raouf. This looks like a very low-rent Mission Impossible-meets-The Expendables, with all the typical cliches you'd expect. Including the "Islamic terrorists are our worst enemy" trope. This looks pretty awful, I'm surprised it's being released in theaters at all. Have a look. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Keoni Waxman's Contract to Kill, in high def from Apple: In this international action-thriller, Steven Seagal stars as Harmon,...

Waxman also helmed a number of episodes of Seagal’s TV show, True Justice (released here in the UK as a series of direct to DVD “movies” starting with Deadly Crossing).
This time round Seagal stars as contract killer John Alexander (not to be confused with contract killer/mercenary John Seeger from Seagal’s 2006 offering Mercenary For Justice) who – after fulfilling his latest mission to take out an arms dealer – encounters a girl on the run...

The director of Mercenary: Absolution talks to us about international appeal, tough guys, and all things Seagal...
I’m Den of Geek’s go to guy for Steven Seagal movies and, as such, was very excited when the opportunity to interview Keoni Waxman arose. He’s directed six movies that have starred Seagal and worked on the TV series True Justice with the big man.
Not only was I excited to speak to Waxman because I like his films, I thought he’d be an interesting interview subject. While I understand that interviews with big Hollywood stars are more popular, I felt like I would have a chance to speak to someone that many Den of Geek readers wouldn’t know much about, and that he’d be able to offer us an interesting perspective on a part of the film industry that we don’t have much access to.

Steven Seagal has never been a big name in action movies for me. I’ve seen the popular ones he’s in such as the Under Siege movies but he never caught my interest like somebody like Jean-Claude Van Damme or Dolph Lundgren. This is probably why when I sat down to review Force of Execution I was more interested to see Danny Trejo’s name appear than Seagal, though even that is not a seal of quality.
In Force of Execution Steven Seagal plays Thomas Douglas a crime lord who has a desire to retire and get out of the life of crime. At the same time Ice Man (Ving Rhames) is looking to make his mark on the criminal underworld and take what Douglas has built. As Ice Man makes his move,...

Anchor Bay's action thriller Force of Execution hits Blu-ray and DVD shelves on December 17th, 2013, and we've got 2 clips as well as the box art from the film starring Steven Seagal, Ving Rhames and Danny Trejo. Keoni Waxman directs from the writing by Richard Beattie and Michael Black. Steven Seagal stars as mob kingpin Mr. Alexander, an old-school boss who rules his criminal empire with both nobility and brutality. For a simple prison hit, he sends his best enforcer and protégé Roman Hurst (Foster). But when the hit goes wrong, Hurst is forced to pay the price of his “failure:” banishment in the city that he almost once ruled. But a war is brewing for the soul of the city between Alexander, a cold-blooded gangster known as ‘The Iceman” (Rhames), and a merciless Mexican cartel. Hurst, with the help of an ex-con restaurant owner (Trejo) who has a few hidden moves of his own,...

Nothing screams the holidays quite like Steven Seagal phoning in a performance. And while I’m not suggesting that’s the case with “Force of Execution,” the odds are definitely not on his side. Sorry, big guy. I’ve seen “Black Dawn,” “Out of Reach,” and “Out for a Kill” a little under a dozen times each. I know your game inside and out. Written by Richard Beattie and Michael Black and directed by Keoni Waxman, “Force of Execution” finds Seagal portraying a mob boss who eventually squares off against another gangster. At least he’s not playing a former military type who’s out to save the world this time around. That alone is worth a look, I suppose. Here’s how Anchor Bay describes the flick: Steven Seagal stars as mob kingpin Mr. Alexander, an old-school boss who rules his criminal empire with both nobility and brutality. But...

"If you don't maneuver, you'll be out maneuvered. If you're out maneuvered, you will be killed."
Pretty much everybody needs a big dose of badass to prepare for the holiday season, so thank goodness Steven Seagal is here to provide. Starting on December 17th, Force of Execution will be available on Blu-ray and DVD, as well as digital download, and if this trailer is any indication it will be absolutely jam-packed full of action, fight scenes, and mayhem. And Steven Seagal is not the only one bringing the badass. The movie also stars Ving Rhames, Danny Trejo, and martial artist and actor Bren Foster, which sounds like one heck of a good time to us. Check out the trailer and see how many of Steven Seagal's many faces you can spot.
If that trailer wasn't enough to convince you to watch this movie, here's the synopsis:

If you were disappointed that neither Steven Seagal nor "Stone Cold" Steve Austin made an appearance in The Expendables 2, you'll be happy to know that they've gone and made an action flick of their own called Maximum Conviction. Sure, it's a direct-to-dvd piece of crap, but hey, what did you expect? The movie is directed by Keoni Waxman, the same guy who did the previous Stone Cold starring vehicle Hunt to Kill. As you can probably guess, it looks pretty bad although the non-existent chemistry between Seagal and Austin is almost so terrible it's sublime. Maximum Conviction hits DVD and Blu-ray on Nov. 6th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

For fans of straight to DVD action movies like myself, Maximum Conviction – which has just been picked up for Us distribution by Anchor Bay – sounds like a match made in heaven. Former hard-hitting, and now heavy-hitting martial arts megastar Steven Seagal has teamed up with former WWE Superstar “Stone Cold” Steve Austin in the film which comes from director Keoni Waxman.
The film sees the action duo as private security contractors decommissioning an old prison. When two mysterious female prisoners are forced to stay there one night, the facility comes under siege by a force of mercenaries, with our heroes forced to stand against the mercenaries and find out the reason for the assault.
I for one shall be snapping Maximum Conviction up when it hits Blu-ray next year!
