Venom: The Last Dance introduced audiences to the all powerful Knull, God of the Symbiotes. The Marvel Comics character has been a force to be reckoned with in the source material for years now and there was certainly enthusiasm to see how he would be portrayed on-screen.
The character received something of a mixed response, but one of the main reasons for that was his lack of screen-time and limited role. With the promise of a more extensive role in the Sony Pictures Universe of Spider-Man Characters going forward, Sony could very easily solve that problem.
*** This article contains Major Spoilers from Venom: The Last Dance. Don't read on if you do not want the movie spoiled for you. ***
While the villainous Knull was seemingly defeated and his plans foiled by the end of the film, there have been reports that he will be involved in future Sony Marvel films.

Hitting theaters on Friday, December 13 is Kraven The Hunter. In this this new featurette, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and director J.C. Chandor discuss the making of an old fashioned gangster story, as well as the choice to make an R-rated movie.
Official Synopsis:
Kraven the Hunter is the action-packed, R-rated, standalone story of how one of Marvel’s most iconic villains came to be. Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays Kraven, a man whose complex relationship with his ruthless gangster father, Nikolai Kravinoff (Russell Crowe), starts him down a path of vengeance with brutal consequences, motivating him to become not only the greatest hunter in the world, but also one of its most feared.
It will be interesting to see how Kraven’s half-brother is the Chameleon, whose real name is Dmitri Smerdyakov, fits into all of this.
Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, Kraven first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #15 (1964).

Marvel Studios has gone through a lot of Spider-Man's villains very quickly. Homecoming used The Vulture and Shocker, while Far From Home put Mysterio front and centre alongside "Elementals" clearly based on the likes of Hydro-Man and Molten Man.
Then, in No Way Home, Tom Holland's web-slinger battled Variants of the Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Electro, Lizard, and Sandman. Where does this leave Spider-Man 4? Well, if recent rumours are to be believed, Peter Parker will team up with Venom to battle Knull, God of the Symbiotes.
However, Spidey still has plenty of bad guys we'd like to see on screen and this feature singles out six villains we'd rather have showcased in filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton's addition to the popular MCU franchise. We also explore the types of stories which can be told with the characters.

Was Mary Jane Watson almost removed from The Amazing Spider-Man 2? (Photo Credit – Netflix)
Mary Jane Watson was ready to strut her stuff in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. But she didn’t. Instead, she disappeared. Shailene Woodley wanted to bring that fiery redhead to life, but the final cut didn’t have her.
Now, let’s take a trip down memory lane. Mj first crashed the Marvel Comics party back in 1965—and nope, she wasn’t just another pretty face. She gave Gwen Stacy a severe run for her money! After Gwen’s exit, courtesy of the Green Goblin, Mj swooped in, ready to make sparks fly. Kirsten Dunst nailed it as Mj in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, while Zoë Kravitz brought her voice to life in Into the Spider-Verse.
When filming started for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in early 2013, everyone was splitting up about Woodley stepping into the redhead’s shoes.

Oh what a tangled web we weave when the multiverse becomes part of Spider-Man canon. The Spider-Man film franchise started simply enough, with 2002’s “Spider-Man.” Fast forward 20 years and three different actors have played live-action versions of the Wall Crawler, with the trio joining forces in 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”
The most recent Spidey flick wasn’t just a fun family reunion. It also led to Marvel verifying the existence of the multiverse in its live-action productions. As the former Sorcerer Supreme Doctor Strange says in the film, “The multiverse is a concept about which we know frighteningly little.”
While the establishment of the multiverse has a still yet-to-be-determined impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, in the present it can make watching Spider-Man movies in order a little complicated.
Thankfully, there are a myriad of ways to enjoy your friendly neighborhood Spider-Men. Below is a list of the Web...

Love it or hate it, Rotten Tomatoes is now more important than ever when it comes to whether moviegoers decide to check out the latest releases on the big screen, and it's not uncommon for studios to tout scores as proudly as star ratings.
It's been quite the ride for the Spider-Man franchise over the years. His 2002 movie was a game-changer for the genre, and what's followed has been an amazing and sometimes disappointing journey for the web-slinger. Of course, the Universe continues to expand even without Peter Parker with the likes of Venom, Morbius, and Madame Web.
After Spider-Man: No Way Home blew the minds of fans, last year saw us step back into the Multiverse for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Its predecessor, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, won an Oscar and the follow-up will likely do the same next month.

With the release of ‘Venom: The Last Dance,’ Knull, the King in Black, is finally making his live-action debut. While Kelly Marcel, the film’s writer and director, confirmed that Knull isn’t the main villain of ‘Venom 3,’ he’s being teased for future projects.
Since his appearance in the trailer, rumors have circulated that Knull will play a significant role in the MCU, especially as the main villain in ‘Spider-Man 4,’ where he could disrupt the Multiverse.
However, what if Knull isn’t setting up ‘Spider-Man 4’ but is instead laying the groundwork for the long-rumored ‘Sinister Six’ movie? Sony originally planned a ‘Sinister Six’ film back in 2013 for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ universe, with Drew Goddard attached to direct. Could this be the direction Knull is heading towards?
Although it was thought to be canceled by November 2015, the ‘Sinister Six’ project was brought back in December 2018 after the success of ‘Venom.

With the release of ‘Venom: The Last Dance’ Knull – the King in Black is being finally introduced to live-action. Kelly Marcel, the movie’s writer, and director stated that Knull is not supposed to be the main villain of ‘Venom 3’ but rather just a tease of what’s to come in the future for the character.
Ever since Knull was teased in the upcoming movie’s trailer, industry insiders claimed that Knull will play a massive role in the future of the MCU, to be more specific, in the upcoming ‘Spider-Man 4’ flick.
According to various reports The King in Black is supposed to be the main villain of the upcoming Spider-Man flick, and tear down the fabric of the Multiverse – it seems plausible enough, especially taking into account that Knull is a multiversal villain in nature
But, what if Knull is not really setting up ‘Spider-Man 4’ but rather the rumored ‘Sinister Six’ movie?...

In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange's botched spell pulled six familiar villains into Earth-616 for a clash with Tom Holland's web-slinger.
The Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Electro, Sandman, and The Lizard all battled Spidey, though Venom chose to remain in Mexico. Needless to say, with The Vulture randomly sent to Morbius' reality, there's been a lot of speculation about what Rhys Ifans is doing in Venom: The Last Dance.
The prevailing theory has been that he might be a redeemed Curt Connors or perhaps even a new Variant of the character. After all, why cast him in this threequel if The Amazing Spider-Man star's Marvel history isn't acknowledged in any way?
Well, that's exactly what happens.
In Venom: The Last Dance, Ifans is playing Martin, an alien-obsessed father who has dragged his family - Nova, Echo, and Leaf - on a trip to Area 51 before it's commissioned.

Had Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4 happened, we'd have seen Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker do battle with John Malkovich's Vulture. Instead, when Marvel Studios rebooted the web-slinger, it was former Batman Michael Keaton who donned the villain's wings in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Rather than returning in Spider-Man: No Way Home - which was the original plan - Keaton reprised his role as The Vulture in Morbius. After mistakenly being sent to that world, a surprisingly calm Toomes was freed from prison and later attempted to recruit the Living Vampire to a team of some sort.
It remains one of the worst comic book movie post-credits scenes ever but could the actor show up as Adrian Toomes in the upcoming Spider-Man 4?
"Oh, wow. That's an interesting character, that guy," Keaton responded when Screen Rant asked the question. "Actually, I was there for a minute in the second one.

When it comes to the debate about the Spider-Men, fans usually side with Andrew Garfield’s or Tobey Maguire’s versions of the character, completely disregarding or undermining Tom Holland’s version. While there may have been just cause for such a sentiment till Spider-Man: Far From Home, there is absolutely no denying that Holland proved his worth and why he was cast as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Although the film does have its flaws here and there, the character development that Peter goes through in those two-and-a-half hours is more than his past two films. On top of this, his version also showcased certain traits and abilities that Maguire and Garfield’s versions didn’t.
There is no better example of his abilities than the fight sequence with Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin.

In 2012, Andrew Garfield entered the Marvel universe to play one of the franchise’s most celebrated heroes, Spider-Man. The British star, who infused a relatable dose of wit and emotion to his portrayal, ensured that his performance resulted in the film’s success at the box office. In 2014, he reunited with director Marc Webb for a sequel that unfortunately did do as well as the first film.

While looking back at the movie’s lukewarm box office response, it now seems that its fate was predestined. Apart from being sandwiched between two marquee 2014 films like Captain America: The Winter Solider and X-Men: Days Of Future Past, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was also put under added pressure by Sony to create box office history, which in retrospect, would have been an impossible mountain to climb.

We got confirmation earlier this year that Sony Pictures is moving forward with a live-action Spider-Man Noir series for Amazon Prime Video, with Nicolas Cage set to play the hero after voicing him in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.
Now, Daniel Richtman is reporting that Brendan Gleeson has joined the cast as a villain.
We don't have much more to go on, but in the comics, Noir faces off against multiple redesigned versions of pretty much every classic Spidey foe, including the Goblin, Vulture, Electro, and Doctor Octopus.
If this is accurate - and Richtman has been spot on with these casting scoops of late - expect the trades to confirm soon.
The series will reportedly follow an "ageing and down on his luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero," but this take...

The sins of Norman Osborn have returned to their rightful host, unleashing the Green Goblin on the world once more. Peter Parker had been planning for this eventuality and managed to corner Norman in his lab, where Spider-Man was able to even the playing field to get the upper hand.
Unfortunately, the Green Goblin had a trick up his own sleeve. When Peter had taken the sins of Norman Osborn into himself months ago, his twisted persona preserved itself via the Winker Device, brainwashing Peter to switch back to it when a code phrase is said.
Green Goblin activated the phrase and brought Spider-Goblin to the forefront of Peter's psyche. In today's Amazing Spider-Man #51, we see the Sinister Six plotting to take revenge on The Living Brain.
Kraven the Hunter tries to warn the Six of the threat Osborn's sins pose to them, only to be mocked by his teammates.

In the late 1980s/early 1990s, Avatar, Aliens, and The Terminator director James Cameron had ambitious plans for a live-action Spider-Man movie.
After writing the screenplay with Barry Cohen and Ted Newson, he'd have directed the movie. While we've heard about many possible casting ideas the filmmaker had, Leonardo DiCaprio was expected to play Peter Parker.
It's one of those movies fans will likely always wonder about; instead, Sam Raimi helmed 2002's Spider-Man, with Tobey Maguire playing the web-slinger and a tone more in line with Stan Lee and Steve Ditko's comics instead of the R-Rated adventure Cameron likely had planned.
Electro and Sandman were expected to be Cameron's villains, though a quote attributed to the director at Cinematheque Francaise in Paris confirms he also had plans for Venom.
"And then there's Spider-Man, the greatest movie I never made," he said. "Because my version of the project didn't get off the ground,...

Amazing Spider-Man #50 was recently released and ended with a major status quo shift for Peter Parker. The hero has been secretly brainwashed by the Green Goblin, transforming him into the twisted "Spider-Goblin."
We've yet to see the consequences of that change, though we're not expecting the hero's villainous new persona to be a permanent change.
The series has also seen the Sinister Six reassemble, and while that would usually be a problem for Peter, they'll now have to face the web-slinger with his twisted new persona.
Today, we have two spectacular variant covers for the final two chapters in this storyline; illustrated by Gabrielle Dell'Otto, we see the classic version of Spidey doing battle with the team: Doctor Octopus, Kraven the Hunter, Electro, Mysterio, Sandman, and The Vulture.

While Electro and War Machine may not have crossed paths in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Jamie Foxx and Terrence Howard most certainly clashed off-screen. Literally and metaphorically. Things even got heated between the two at one point, so much so that Howard had to apologize to the Oscar-winning actor.

Although Foxx doesn’t seem to have held any resentment against the other star, the situation did appear precarious between the two actors at the time. But alas, all’s well that end’s well, or so they say.

When Marvel Studios teamed with Sony Pictures and agreed to share Spider-Man, the decision was quickly made to focus on villains the web-slinger hadn't faced on screen before.
Spider-Man: Homecoming featured Shocker and The Vulture and even set the stage for Scorpion's eventual debut by introducing Mac Gargan. Spider-Man: Far From Home shifted focus to Mysterio, only for Spider-Man: No Way Home to pit Tom Holland's Peter Parker against the baddies from previous Spider-Man movies.
The MCU hero battled Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Electro, Sandman, and The Lizard; however, as exciting as that was for fans, it seemingly closed the door on new versions of those baddies appearing on Earth-616.
Heck, Willem Dafoe's Norman Osborn even confirmed his Variant doesn't exist on that world!

The Amazing Spider-Man series remains one of the fan favorites thanks to on-off screen chemistry between Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. While the duo never got to see credits roll on The Amazing Spider-Man 3, the actress reflected on her thoughts about returning to a canceled third installment.
The Amazing Spider-Man
Spider-Man has been one of the biggest box office draws in Marvel flagship since the release of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man movies. However, several factors led to its reboot with the former taking on the titular role. Serving as the hero for two movies, a third installment was a likely outcome back then. However, things were different for his female counterpart.
Emma Stone Reflected on Her Thoughts for The Amazing Spider-Man 3
While Emma Stone‘s filmography is more than enough for audiences to know her acting prowess, she gained wider prominence while portraying the role of Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man movie series.

Years before Sam Raimi’s ground-breaking Spider-Man trilogy made it to the big screen and forever revolutionized the comic book superhero genre, there were several other iterations of the tale with several other filmmakers and actors associated with the project. One of them was James Cameron, who was eager to have a more mature and grounded take on the web-slinger’s live-action debut film.

Associated and contacted by Carolco Pictures, Cameron originally wanted Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead before the studio went bankrupt. However, if the filmmaker’s version of the movie had made it through, we would have gotten Spider-Man fighting two different Marvel villains in his first film.

(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)
"We do very much have the ambition about creating a bigger universe around Spider-Man." These were the words uttered by former Sony Pictures Entertainment chief Michael Lynton after an investor meeting in November 2013. Those words would become the undoing of the franchise solely under Sony's stewardship, with 2014's "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" serving as the nail in the coffin. With the benefit of hindsight, we might be looking at the most outright financially successful franchise-killer in cinema history.
The Andrew Garfield-led "Spider-Man" films remain a tragic mixed bag. There are those who adore Garfield as Marvel's famed webslinger. There are many others who can't get past the messy direction the films themselves wandered down -- particularly this sequel we're talking about today.

There are any number of actors who could have taken on the role of Dr. Otto Octavius in 2004's Spider-Man 2, but Sam Raimi made a somewhat unlikely choice with Alfred Molina. However, it would prove to absolutely be the right one.
The actor made Doctor Octopus his own and, even two decades later, his Doc Ock is still considered one of the best comic book supervillains to ever grace the screen.
In a recent interview, Molina reflected on his career and admitted he was surprised to be considered seeing as he was best known at the time for his roles in Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark and Frida.
"It was a big surprise to me, because it's not the kind of movie that I imagined myself to be qualified for. You always think of these big action films as [casting] physical types, and I've definitely never been that.

When it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's approach to the multiverse on the big screen, "Spider-Man: No Way Home" is the only movie that realizes the potential of franchise crossovers between the old guard of Marvel movies and the interconnected films of Kevin Feige's Marvel Studios. That's right, not even "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" properly delivered on the promise of a multiverse truly full of madness, opting instead for hollow fan service, even though director Sam Raimi had fun tearing all those alternate Marvel superheroes apart at the hands of the Scarlet Witch. Instead, it was the meeting of Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire as the various big screen Spider-Men that delivered a mostly satisfying spin through the wallcrawlers' weaving webs.
Since all of the versions of Spider-Man came together on the big screen,...

The biggest set piece in the most recent live-action Spider-Man film, 2021's "Spider-Man: No Way Home," involves, through a series of multiversal shenanigans, Tom Holland's friendly neighborhood web-slinger teaming up with two other Spider-Men to fight Electro, Sandman, and the Lizard on the Statue of Liberty.
The biggest set piece in 2004's "Spider-Man 2" involves Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man trying to stop a train full of innocent passengers from crashing.
By comparison, the train scene may seem almost quaint, but director Sam Raimi used it as an opportunity to combine then-state-of-the-art action filmmaking with genuine humanity and pathos, resulting in a cocktail that dozens of superhero films have been unable to fully replicate in the 20 years since. You remember the scene: As Spider-Man and Doctor Octopus (aka "Doc Ock") are fighting on a New York City skyscraper, they fall onto an elevated train zooming through the city and continue...
