Exclusive: Ruchi Narain was obsessed with ABC’s early 2010s drama Revenge — so much so that she spent years trying to land the rights to remake the Mike Kelley show in India.
“I was addicted to the show,” she recalled during an exclusive interview. “From when I saw episode one a decade ago, I thought that this is it — something that should be taken to the Indian audience.”
Now that’s finally come to pass, with Disney+ Hotstar in December ordering a remake, Karmma Calling, from R.A.T. Studios. Narain has the led the adaptation process, and the screenwriter and director has told Deadline the story of how she approached the trials and tribulations of porting the Hamptons to Mumbai high society.
But first, it’s worth exploring exactly how the series came about. Narain, known for hit Indian films such as Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi and Netflix’s 2020 feature Guilty,...

Was that an episode of This Is Us disguised as The Walking Dead?
Despite some big swings in the storytelling department, The Walking Dead Season 11 Episode 18 paid tribute to the past as our survivors questioned what comes next. It was one of the most emotional installments yet.
The series finally embraces the fact that the end is nigh, and most of the characters are accounted for. What more could we want?
Pamela is a tough nut to crack, but now, we're in the know about how she was forced to run the community because of her family ties.
It's not easy to tell someone to fulfill a legacy, especially if they don't want to, and it was hard not to feel sorry for Sebastian.
If you watch The Walking Dead online, you know he's wicked as hell, but he's also a product of the corruption behind the scene of this...

At this point, what soul in Rivervale hasn't been corrupted? It was easy pickings for Mr. Cypher.
The devil made his way to town on Riverdale Season 6 Episode 3 with plenty of tempting offers. Some chaos, some shady deals, and some promises of big success.
No one held back when the evil deals were dangled in front of them. The third chapter of Rivervale's five-part event embraced its devilishly fun dark side!
It was only a matter of time before the devil arrived in Rivervale. Cheryl had previously toyed with "Faustian" deals on Riverdale Season 6 Episode 1, so we got an early tease of what it could be like with his presence.
Mr. Cypher was an interesting villain. He had the same sophistication and swagger as Lucifer Morningstar from Netflix's Lucifer, but he wasn't as involved or charismatic. This "devil" always seemed to be at arm's length from everyone.

It’s been 10 years since audiences first met Emily Thorne (Emily VanCamp) in her quest for revenge on the wealthy Grayson family, who she believed were responsible not only for her father going to prison, but also for his death.
Loosely based on “The Count of Monte Cristo” by Alexandre Dumas, the series, aptly titled “Revenge,” ran for four seasons on ABC, from 2011-2015. It followed Emily (real name Amanda Clarke) as she moved to the Hamptons to carry out her plan, only to become more embroiled with the Graysons than she ever could have expected – and uncovering more secrets about her father than she ever knew possible.
Here, the cast and crew talk about the series’ overnight success, the confines of network television and about the departure of a key figure integral to the show’s DNA.

On September 21st, 2011, Revenge premiered on ABC. The show focused on protagonist Emily Thorne's (Emily VanCamp) quest for revenge against those who framed her father for terrorism. It lasted four successful and thrilling seasons.
It's been ten years since we first saw Emily hold that red sharpie, and while August 8th is considered Revenge Day by some, we couldn't let this ten-year anniversary pass without paying tribute to this iconic show.
TV Fanatic Staff Writers Leora Waltuch, Laura Nowack, and Paul Daily got together to discuss what they loved, what they hated, and whether or not we want a reboot.
Laura: It's hard to believe it's been ten years.
Paul: Yeah.
Leora: Think back to that day ten years ago. What was your initial impression of the show?
Laura: I liked the mystery aspect, which stayed for three seasons and then left on Revenge Season 4.
Leora: Revenge Season 4 was definitely the weakest season.

Remember when everyone you knew was watching Revenge? Created by Mike Kelley, the ABC hit drama premiered on Sept. 21, 2011, instantly becoming the biggest new show of the year. Were you Team Jack or Team Daniel? Just kidding, we all know everyone was secretly rooting for Nolan (Gabriel Mann) all along. Emily's mission ultimately came to an end after four seasons, with VanCamp going on to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe and marry one of her Revenge co-stars. Meanwhile, the actress who...

Ten years ago, executive producer/creator/writer Mike Kelley rejuvenated the primetime soap opera with the ABC series Revenge. The serial drama, which debuted September 21, 2011, and quickly became a guilty pleasure, told the story of Emily Thorne (Emily VanCamp), a former Hamptonite who returned to seek revenge against the wealthy Grayson family and their various hangers-on. Armed with a burning desire for justice, unlimited financial resources, and a pack of red Sharpies, Emily (born Amanda Clarke) eliminated individuals who had framed her father, David Clarke (James Tupper), for conspiring with the terrorists who brought down Flight 197, killing all 247 souls on board. Emily couldn’t account for every contingency, but the fun was watching her take control and remain two steps ahead of her adversaries—especially Victoria Grayson, played by the unparalleled Madeleine Stowe. There's something about a mysterious anti-hero that makes you want to root for them.
Think of Catwoman from DC, Black Widow from Marvel, and Severus Snape from the Harry Potter series. Their actions are questionable, and their motives are hidden, but even their villainous side gets the love along with their hero traits. It's so wrong to root for them, but it feels so right!
In the world of Netflix's Girl from Nowhere, that moniker goes to Nanno.
Not much is really known about Nanno or her mysterious ways. You're not quite sure if you can trust her, but there always seems to be a hidden agenda under the surface.
On Girl from Nowhere Season 1 and Girl from Nowhere Season 2, Nanno is this ageless supernatural character in the form of a schoolgirl. She randomly travels from school to school in Thailand, enacting some form of lesson.
Cheating scandals, dangerous ambitions,...

Warning: This interview contains spoilers from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Episode 3, “The Power Broker.”
Agent Sharon Carter, we hardly knew thee, is essentially what it boils down to after seeing Captain America’s former flame show up in Episode 3 of Disney+/Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
While still showing an ability to get a guy out of tricky situation — similar to how she saved Captain America in his second movie, she saves Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes from a bunch of bounty hunters several times over in Episode 3– Carter is a little jaded; on the run from the U.S., hiding out in the Pan Pacific island city of Madripoor.
“So much has changed. Everything that used to motivate Sharon Carter is no longer. That’s pretty evident in Episode 3 off the bat, when we see her. Clearly Sharon’s been through it, and isn’t too happy about that.

Main characters can be overrated. There, I said it.
The problem with main characters is that there’s so much pressure placed on them to be likable.
Sometimes the added pressure works in a character's favor, but other times, the extra attention turns what could have been an admirable lead into one that either falls flat or appears too overdeveloped.
That's rarely the case with sidekicks as they are quite literally created with the intention of propping up said main character
Now, that isn't to say the role of a sidekick is easy; their job is especially difficult as they bear a handful of responsibilities. They’re known as supporting and secondary characters that assist the main character, break the ice in tense situations using comedic relief, give advice, and clean up messes.
They also have the ability to raise the stakes of a show without outshining the lead.

Emily Thorne/Amanda Clarke's twisted tale of revenge is over, but ABC is poised to kick off a new iteration of Revenge.
We reported earlier this month that a brand new series set in the same universe of 2011-15 TV original is officially in the works.
The new iteration follows a young Latinx immigrant who arrives in Malibu seeks revenge on a "Sackler-Esque pharmaceutical dynasty, whose insatiable greed lead to the murder of her biochemist mother, the destruction of her family, and a global epidemic."
The most intriguing aspect of a potential sequel is that a character from the original would be on board to guide this young woman on her mission.
No details have been revealed about who will be back, but that doesn't mean we can't chat about who should return in some capacity for the sequel.

First comes love, then comes marriage, or so goes the old rhyme. When people think they have met the one, it is only a matter of time until they pop the question.
Hopefully, after that, it is all smooth sailing. Sometimes, not so much. Sometimes the proposal is rejected, or the couple gets torn apart. For whatever reason, a wedding doesn't happen.

Dark days are heading to the town of Riverdale.
In fact, Riverdale Season 3 Episode 1 has already left our favorite characters feeling hopeless in their current predicaments. Between Archie's prison sentence and the strange supernatural arrivals, Riverdale isn't holding back any punches. And that's exactly what we want to see!
So long summer because evil is back in town just in time for junior year.
"Chapter Thirty-Six: Labor Day" captured the feeling of what made us fall in love with Riverdale in the first place.
On the surface, it had the picture-perfect 1950s charm of summer days by the lake and riding along in the jalopy with your best pals. But, hidden behind those toothy smiles, there was still that sinister eeriness emerging from the town's darkness. An equal balance of Happy Days meets Twin Peaks.
The Riverdale Season 3 premiere pulled us in, slowly building the anticipation to its heart-pounding climax.

Forget “Who shot Emily Thorne?” The real question hanging over Revenge‘s third season was, “Um, what’s the deal with Victoria and her hunky son?”
We’d learned in Season 2 that Victoria Grayson, regally played by Madeleine Stowe, had given a child up for adoption years before. And when reappeared in Queen V’s life as an adult, he looked a lot like Justin Hartley (This Is Us).

Yep, Natalie survived last week’s bomb-as-belt only to apparently bite it in another explosion. And Alex. Is. Freaked. Out. Read on for the highlights of “Clear.”

It took four seasons, but Emily Thorne finally got her Revenge, and now ABC has opted not to renew the once-popular series for an additional season.
Viewers of the drama, which stars Emily VanCamp and Madeleine Stowe, likely expected the news, given how much the most recent season finale felt like a series ender. Stowe’s character, Victoria Grayson, who had served as the main antagonist from the very first episode, was killed off earlier this season.
Additionally, Josh Bowman, who had been with the show since its premiere back in 2011, saw his character die dramatically, leaving just VanCamp, Nick Wechsler and Gabriel Mann as the original cast members left standing. Revenge has racked up quite a body count during its run, with regulars Henry Czerny, Connor Paolo and Barry Sloane all meeting with sticky ends at various points.
