Composer Lalit Pandit from the Jatin-Lalit duo reflects, in this amazing in-depth conversation with Subhash K Jha, about creating the soundtrack for the iconic Kabhi Haan Kabhi Na, which released in 1993.

Lalit, how do you look back on the experience?

Khkn(Kabhi Haan Kabhi Na), considered a small film at the time of release with Shah Rukh Khan; this was one of his earlier starting point film. And a South Indian girl, Suchitra. It had newer composers, Jatin-Lalit helming the music department with the veteran Majrooh Sultanpuri and a new producer named Vikram Mehrotra. This was a film being directed by Kundan Shah an actual genius who was embarking on making a mark with a commercially successful film! This was actually a new team working together.

What was your reaction when you first heard the plot?

When my brother Jatin and I heard the story from Kundan Shah, it sounded...

Talking with Subhash K Jha, composer Lalit Pandit dives into creating the score of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and why he feels it was The Movie.

Where do you place Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in your repertoire?

It is one of the best scores of my brother and I. It is an absolute personal favourite of mine and I remember it all clearly as if it all happened just yesterday. Aaj bhi logon ko kuch kuch hota hai.

Did the freshness of the film inspire your fresh tunes?

Kkhh was indeed a great film and had a completely different vibe from anything that happened earlier in the film industry.

The special screening of Sarfarosh will be organized tomorrow at a suburban theatre in Mumbai. The event will see director John Matthew Matthan and music director Lalit Pandit, Mukesh Rishi, Naseeruddin Shah, Makarad Deshpandey, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Rajesh Joshi, Smita Jaykar, Manoj Joshi, Upasna Singh, Surekha Sikri, Akhilendra Mishra and Akash Khurana and many more in attendance.

Furthermore, the cast and crew of Sarfarosh will be felicitated and encouraged to share their memories and trivia attached to the film. Along with the team, fans can also be a part of the screening as they will have a chance to win tickets to the premiere.

The singer recorded the song in the U.S. while touring.

‘Socho Zara’ is a romantic song. Javed, when he heard that the song has been composed by Lalit, was over the moon.

Mumbai, Sep 28 (Ians) In a fitting tribute, the ‘Bharat Ratna Lata Dinanath Mangeshkar International Music College & Museum’ was inaugurated at the Kalina Campus of the University of Mumbai, here on Wednesday — on the 93rd birth anniversary of the melody queen who passed away on February 6, officials said.

With a very heavy heart, we present our tribute to one of Bollywood’s finest music composers, Aadesh Srivastava, who sadly lost his battle with cancer. Our heartfelt condolences to the entire Srivastava and Pandit family. Aadeshji has two sons, Avitesh and Anivesh, with his wife Vijayta Pandit, who is sister of the famous Music Director duo Jatin-Lalit.

Aadeshji was not only a music director but also a background score composer. He gave the background score to many films, such as Humraaz, Ye Hai Jalwa and Paheli, the latter being one of our favorite and most noted background scores.

Titled ‘Substance and Shadow’, the biography was written by author Uday Tara Nayara a close family friend. “The title Substance & The Shadow was suggested by Dilip saab. The film is supposedly a complete family entertainer with elements of comedy. The cast has already completed 15 days of its shoot and a major chunk is said to be shot in Mumbai. Also, on the music front, music director Lalit Pandit has already completed the recording of three songs.

Apart from the veteran stars, the movie also stars Vir Das, Divya Seth, Bharati Achrekar and will release in early 2014.

Mumbai, Feb 19: Reports that Sandhya Singh, sister of music composers Jatin and Lalit Pandit, was a desperately lonely woman and sought strangers' company for solace, have not gone down well with the family.

The family is said to be less than satisfied with the manner in which the police probe is being conducted.

Mumbai, Feb 14: Composer Lalit says he composed the song 'Pehla Nasha' in "Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar" for his wife and feels it's his contribution to Valentine's Day.

Thane, Jan 29: 49 days after her disappearance, police in Navi Mumbai have recovered remains suspected to be of Sandhya Singh, the missing sister of music composers Jatin and Lalit Pandit and yesteryear actresses Sulakshna and Vijeta. Her brother Lalit said the remains were identified by some jewellery found with them.

Sandhya, 50, was missing since Dec 13 from her residence in the Nri Colony at Seawoods Estate here.

Though police are tightlipped about the cause of death, they suspect murder for robbery and the remains have been sent for forensic tests and autopsy.
