NBC’s Brilliant Minds episode five opens with Dr. Oliver Wolf (Zachary Quinto) reflecting on coping mechanisms and how they help us make it through the day. Oliver’s voiceover tells us that sometimes our ghosts are visible to everyone. Other times, only we can see them.
In the case of ex-Marine Steve Hill (Joshua Echebiri), his ghosts seem very, very real to him. Dr. Carol Pierce (Tamberla Perry) tells Oliver that Steve’s suffering from intrusive thoughts and severe anxiety, and that he revealed he’s been seeing ghosts of people he served with.
Carol and Oliver meet with Steve and his pregnant wife, Anna (Sabryn Rock), and she confirms he’s been struggling. Steve doesn’t want to burden his wife, but confesses he often breaks down. He hands over his medical records from the Va,...

HighballTV announced today that their upcoming monster-centered genre anthology film God of Frogs, which includes segments from several emerging film directors, has wrapped production in and around Trenton, Canada.
God of Frogs is a new genre anthology film that will include four segments surrounding the same monster, we’re told. Deep in the heart of the jungle exists an elemental creature with an eternal hunger, and every 25 years, it emerges: a woman is eaten alive in 1969, a film crew goes missing in 1994, a politician explodes live on television in 2019, and a multinational corporation goes up in flames in 2044.
The cast of the anthology includes Kate Vernon, Juan Chioran, Darius Rathe, Erika Prevost, Ilana Haley, Peter Fernandes, Alexander Eling, Rodrigo Fernandez-Stoll, Sabryn Rock, and Christian Lloyd.
Producers attached to the film include Johnathan Sharp and Elizabeth Fraser, along with Executive Producers Matt Campagna and Andre Rehal.

A holiday as conspicuous as Christmas will undoubtedly attract the most thrills and chills at this time of year. In the past, TV’s genre anthologies have been a remarkable and plentiful source of wintry terror, be that of the Christmas variety or otherwise. The original Twilight Zone submitted the strangest of strange holiday stories, Tales from the Darkside provided the macabre classics “Seasons of Belief” and “The Yattering and Jack,” and Tales from the Crypt put a new spin on the EC-era slasher “And All Through the House.”
Christmas horror only became more weird and wild as the century changed. And as these five festive frighteners from more recent anthology series suggest, there’s never a better season for horror than winter.

BET+ is venturing into the historical/period pieces with this intriguing mini-series inspired by real events!
The Porter dives into the height of the North American railway system, mainly for Black workers who made their bread and butter in the transportation business as porters, a job that was one of the most common for Black men at the time.
And through what promises to be an enthralling series, The Porter draws from the formation of the first Black Union.
Through The Porter, we follow two train porters who were as close as ever, Junior Massey and Zeke Garrett.
One tragedy strikes on the job, leaving the community reeling; the two set on completely different paths that will inevitably conflict with one another in their dogged pursuit of a better life and all that it entails as Black men during the early 1920s.
Junior takes an "if you can't beat them,...

Creature adventurers of all ages have come to know and love Koki as the Afro-rocking, whip-smart computer expert and mechanic opposite main characters Chris and Martin on PBS Kids’ beloved animated series Wild Kratts.
What fans may not have known is Heather Bambrick, a white voice actress, vocalized the Black character for the better part of six seasons. This changed shortly after 2020’s racial reckoning, however, when producers battled public scrutiny for not employing a Black actress to bring Koki to life.

It started last year, with the release of Benchwarmers 2… Which is when I speculated that Universal’s Dtv arm Universal 1440 Entertainment were scraping the bottom of the barrel. How little did I know. After being set up to produce sequels to Universal’s properties such as Death Race, Tremors and The Scorpion King, the company has in recent years has churned out sequels to Kindergarten Cop, Daddy Day Care, Cop and a Half, Honey, Bring it On and unexpected sequels to the likes of Backdraft, Bulletproof and Undercover Brother.
Speaking of which, Michael Jai White – who starred in the aforementioned blaxploitation comedy film – is back working with Universal’s Dtv arm for Welcome to Sudden Death. A...

Title: The Story of Luke Director: Alonso Mayo Starring: Lou Taylor Pucci, Cary Elwes, Kristin Bauer, Seth Green, Tyler Stentiford, Mackenzie Munro, Kenneth Welsh, Sabryn Rock A winning little dramedy hung chiefly on the solid peg of Lou Taylor Pucci’s lead performance, “The Story of Luke” offers up an experiential snapshot of adult autism without descending into cloying sentimentality or didactic moralizing. Written and helmed by first-time feature director Alonso Mayo — and rooted in childhood experiences of watching his mother oversee an educational center for kids and adults with developmental delays — the movie is mostly a comedy, but one that largely eschews outlandishness and never drifts too far [ Read More ]

A feel-good story about an autistic man's quest for independence, The Story of Luke is a charming little film in need of a bit more grit. After the grandmother who raised him dies, 25-year-old Luke (Lou Taylor Pucci) is sent to live with his aunt and uncle (Kristin Bauer van Straten and Cary Elwes). Luke is a high-functioning autistic who longs to find a real job so he can get his own place and, more important, ask a pretty receptionist (Sabryn Rock) out on a date. Peruvian-born writer-director Alonso Mayo, making his feature debut, has a flair for small, funny riffs, as when Luke's manic new boss (Seth Green) offers Luke a play-by-play commentary on a water-cooler mating dance between two co-workers. Luke would like to be liked, but he's not going to compromise his annoying, rul...
