After 20 years, a new generation is discovering the wacky trip that is Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle… including star John Cho‘s kids.
The actor said that his teenage son had a “pretty good takeaway” after seeing the stoner comedy for the first time as he and co-star Kal Penn recently celebrated the milestone 20th anniversary of the first entry in their trilogy.
“My 16-year-old apparently saw it,” Cho revealed this week on The Today Show. “I had to ferry the daughter out of the house, she’s not ready for it. But apparently he saw it, and his takeaway was, ‘So, you have met Ryan Reynolds?!’ It’s a pretty good takeaway. Not a bad thing.”
Cho’s interview comes after Penn and producer Nathan Kahane recounted how Reynolds’ cameo as a nurse “got the movie greenlit,” following Penn’s appearance in National Lampoon’s Van Wilder (2002).

Exclusive: The Disney+ and Hulu Korean spy drama Tempest has added John Cho (Star Trek), Christopher Gorham (The Lincoln Lawyer), Alicia Hannah-Kim (Cobra Kai) and Jacob Bertrand (Cobra Kai) to its cast, Deadline has learned. They join the previously announced leads Gianna Jun and Gang Dongwon.
Disney+ and Hulu tease “assassinations, political games, conspiracies and spies will collide” in 2025 when Tempest premieres in the United States. Production is currently underway in Seoul.
From writer Chung Seokyung, Tempest follows Seo Munju (Gianna Jun), a highly accomplished diplomat and former ambassador to the United States, and Sanho (Gang Dongwon), an international special agent shrouded in a veil of secrets, as they race to uncover the truth behind an attack that threatens the future stability of the Korean peninsula.
Details regarding who Cho, Gorham, Hannah-Kim and Bertrand will portray are under wraps.
Tempest is directed by Kim Heewon and co-directed by Korean martial arts director Heo Myunghaeng (The Outlaws 4). The series is produced by Imaginus, Showrunners, Studio AA and Action School.
Cho can next be seen in the upcoming sci-fi horror film Afraid opposite Katherine Waterston which opens on August 30. He is best known for his portrayal of Hikaru Sulu in Star Trek (2009) and its two sequels Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) and Star Trek Beyond (2016) and Harold Lee in the Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg hit comedy Harold & Kumar franchise led by Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (2004). His recent credits include HBO’s The Sympathizer, The Afterparty for Apple TV+, Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop and Fox’s The Exorcist for TV. His film credits include Don’t Make Me Go (2022), The Grudge (2019) and The Graduates, which he also executive produced.
The Tempest reunites Cho and Gorham, who starred in the ABC series Ugly Betty.
Gorham most recently starred in Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer. Before that, he had series regular roles in Netflix’s Insatiable, USA’s Covert Affairs and The WB’s Popular. He is best known for his portrayal of Henry Grubstick in Ugly Betty opposite America Ferrera.
Hannah-Kim most recently starred as Sensei Kim Da-eun in seasons 5 and 6 of Cobra Kai, a continuation of The Karate Kid story starring Ralph Macchio and William Zabka. Hannah-Kim co-starred in the drama series alongside Bertrand. Cobra Kai was No. 1 on TV globally in its debut week on Netflix with nearly 15M views. Since then, its viewership doubled its viewership for Season 6A. Before that, she recurred in Max’s Minx.
Bertrand is currently starring in Netflix’s Cobra Kai as Eli “Hawk” Moskowitz, a role he’s portrayed across the show’s six seasons. His prior credits include lead roles in Max’s Batwheels, Disney Channel’s The Swap and for Nickelodeon, Jinxed and Marvin Marvin.

"Ferris Bueller's Day Off" is one of the best teen movies of all time, but it also (perhaps purposely) tells its story from a very privileged point-of-view. I adore the John Hughes classic, yet the last few times I've watched it, I've been struck by how terribly Ferris (Matthew Broderick) treats the customer service workers he meets throughout the film. It's all a part of his schtick; to craft the perfect day off, he has to get access to all sorts of fun stuff, and the quickest way to do that is by putting on a haughty, rich-white guy persona that he probably learned from his dad.
It may be blasphemous to even consider adding a new layer to a perfect Hughes-made story, but if someone's going to do it, it may as well be a filmmaker who's interested in approaching the material from a truly fresh angle. Enter: "Sam and Victor's Day Off,...

‘Harold & Kumar’ Producer Says Ryan Reynolds “Got The Movie Greenlit” Because Of Kal Penn Friendship
As Deadpool & Wolverine enjoys continued success at the box office, another movie franchise has Ryan Reynolds to thank on its 20th anniversary.
Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle star Kal Penn and producer Nathan Kahane revealed the Golden Globe nominee was instrumental in getting the 2004 stoner comedy made as they recently marked the milestone birthday.
Penn noted to Rolling Stone in an oral history of the movie that Reynolds’ support began when they starred together in National Lampoon’s Van Wilder (2002).
“Ryan was incredibly supportive during the audition process for Van Wilder. In the final callback, it was between me and a white dude in brownface for the part of an Indian exchange student. He said to me, ‘How do you feel about improv?’ So we improvised the scene, and he was obviously rooting for me to get the job. The entire production was awesome. He told me once in passing,...

Fans of Netflix’s Karate Kid sequel series Cobra Kai got an exciting sneak peek at what to expect for the Emmy-nominated show’s fifth and final season thanks to co-creator Jon Hurwitz. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hurwitz spilled the deets on pushing the boundaries of martial arts action with the largest tournament in franchise history and uncovering more of Mr. Miyagi’s mysterious backstory.
According to Hurwitz, viewers are in for “the biggest, craziest martial arts tournament” seen in the decades-spanning Karate Kid saga. Taking place in Barcelona, Spain, the international Sekai Taikai tournament promises to go above and beyond the traditional one-on-one bouts at the iconic All Valley Karate Championships. While leaving some surprises under wraps, Hurwitz teased innovative martial arts matchups that will raise the stakes for Cobra Kai dojo rivals Johnny Lawrence and Daniel Larusso.

The creators of Netflix’s Karate Kid sequel/spin-off series Cobra Kai have been chatting about the series as well as wanting to make a Mr Miyagi focused prequel.
Cobra Kai, Netflix’s The Karate Kid spin-off series, is currently in the middle of its sixth and final season. The series will conclude sometime in 2025 when the final part of the concluding season will be released, so there’s still plenty of Cobra Kai still to watch.
The creators of the series, Hayden Schlossberg, Josh Heald and Jon Hurwitz, chatted about the series with The Hollywood Reporter, and revealed that they would love to explore the world of The Karate Kid even more, especially the character of Mr Miyagi.

The first part of the sixth and final season of Cobra Kai debuted just a few weeks ago, putting the grand finale in motion. However, even when the series does come to a close, Cobra Kai creators Hayden Schlossberg, Josh Heald and Jon Hurwitz have been entertaining the idea of more spinoffs, including a prequel series centered on Mr. Miyagi.
“I would say that we definitely want to do [a Mr. Miyagi series] and have been talking about that,” Schlossberg told THR. “But the focus has been on Cobra Kai. As we’re finishing that up, we’ll see exactly what path we take in terms of spinoffs, but it is definitely something that we’ve been wanting to do. It’s just that we want to wait until we get finished with Cobra Kai first before we get into that.” While it doesn’t sound like a Miyagi prequel is officially in the cards at the moment,...

It’s been two weeks now since fans of Netflix’s super popular series Cobra Kai have been able to watch the first part of the three-part final season (the first five episodes of season six have been viewed worldwide 24.3 million times since the July 18 release, per the streamer).
And in the five episode-premiere, it initially appeared there would be peace in The Valley of Los Angeles between Danny Larusso (Ralph Macchio), Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and the various kids of their respective karate schools. But as events and rivalries typically go in this world of high school angst with black belts, peace received a flying kick out of the dojo.
But that simply meant more thrills to come, according to Cobra Kai’s creators Hayden Schlossberg, Josh Heald and Jon Hurwitz. The Hollywood Reporter recently caught up with the trio to talk about the upcoming Part 2 (dropping Nov. 15) and...

During the weekend of July 30, 2004, moviegoers had a choice between two high-profile new releases: The Village, the latest twisty entry from M. Night Shyamalan; and the Jonathan Demme-directed remake of the political thriller The Manchurian Candidate starring Denzel Washington and Meryl Streep.
Oh, and one other contender opened that day, too: Titled Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, it was a lowbrow, zero-frills comedy centered on two friends in New Jersey who, in a single night that turns from mild to wild, seek out their favorite burger joint to satisfy their munchies.

After its successful run of five seasons spread across the course of over six years, Cobra Kai has once again returned to the screens to deliver one last action-packed season that will conclude the series once and for all. But while the grief of the saga ending is one thing, fans are more heartbroken over a fact regarding what could have been the perfect end to the lore.

As it turns out, fans had the most satisfying end to the smash-hit saga all set in their minds way before the series even neared its end. However, this dream was shattered forever after Netflix continued and “wasted away” what was originally started by YouTube Red. If anything, fans believe that the end they had envisioned just might forever remain a dream at this stage.

The first part of Cobra Kai Season 6 recently dropped on Netflix with some pretty interesting storylines unveiled in the new season. When looking back at the previous seasons, fans will definitely miss one character who was written out of the show for the most bizarre reason. Nichole Brown’s Aisha Robinson was Johnny Lawrence’s second student of the new generation of Cobra Kai in the first season.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for Season 6, Part 1 of “Cobra Kai,” now streaming on Netflix.
While Kim Da-Eun — Alicia Hannah-Kim’s character in “Cobra Kai”— was one of the main antagonists last season (and seemed to be done for good), you shouldn’t have counted her out. Kim is back, and teaming up with Kreese (Martin Kove) to take their new generation of Cobra Kai fighters to the next level in the worldwide karate championship, the Sekai Taikai.
The pairing are going up against all of Miyagi-Do, lead by Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio). “Cobra Kai” originated in 2018 as a scripted original on YouTube, and detailed the story of what happened decades after the 1984 “The Karate Kid” film.
In the 40 years that the franchise has been around, Hannah-Kim is the first ever female sensei in the “Karate Kid” universe, something that she says she’s “hyper aware of.

“Cobra Kai” never dies…until it does. Part 1 of the sixth and final season of “Cobra Kai” — the Netflix hit set in the “Karate Kid” universe — has dropped, at long last. And this time, the drama revolves around the ultimate championship for the show’s characters, at the international karate tournament, Sekai Taikai.

Despite fans’ disappointment, there seems to be some good news as the makers announced the second part will be arriving almost two weeks before schedule.

Fans of Cobra Kai buckle up; the show is set to drop the first part of its final season tomorrow. Breaking from the established 10-episode format of previous seasons, The Karate Kid spinoff, beginning in 2018, is now set to end its run, after dropping its three-part finale by 2025. But why exactly did the showrunners come up with this unconventional splitting plan?

During an interview with Gizmodo, the show’s creators, Jon Hurwitz, Josh Heald, and Hayden Schlossberg, revealed the rationale behind their unique approach. Willing to end the show with a bang, unlike the disappointment dropped on audiences by the highly anticipated Game of Thrones, Cobra Kai showrunners thus planned for a more expansive narrative.

Ever since the end of Cobra Kai season 5, fans have been eagerly anticipating the final season of the popular series.

There is no more waiting in this dojo, because "Cobra Kai" is finally back. The popular legacy sequel series that started its life on the YouTube Red streaming platform is ending its run after six seasons with an epic worldwide tournament that brings the best of the best in karate to prove who is the best around once and for all. Of course, we know this is not exactly the end as there will be a movie coming out in 2025 that brings together both franchise mainstay Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan from the 2010 remake of "The Karate Kid."
For now, "Cobra Kai" is doing its final bow with a season split into three parts. The first part is coming to Netflix on July 18, 2024, while Part 2 releases on November 24, 2024. After that, Part 3 will bring the story to an end sometime in 2025. It would be easy to blame the split on Netflix...

Cobra Kai kicks its way back into the streaming scene on Thursday, July 18, with the first of three parts for Season 6 (the show’s final stretch) arriving on Netflix. If you’re wondering why it is that this season is split into three sets of five episodes rather than the usual two-parter, TV Insider caught up with the creators of the series — Jon Hurwitz, Josh Heald, and Hayden Schlossberg, who also write and direct for the series — to talk about that and more. Schlossberg explained to TV Insider, “After Season 5, we knew that we were in endgame territory, and we were talking with Netflix about how many episodes really would be left. Usually, we do 10 episodes a season, but it wouldn’t be enough. If we did 20 episodes, it would be too much and probably take an extra year to make two seasons. We just felt that 15 was the right number.

The martial arts comedy-drama, Cobra Kai, is a continuation of The Karate Kid films from the 80s. It stars Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, who reprise their roles as Daniel Larusso and Johnny Lawrence, respectively, from the movies. And after five successful seasons, it is inching towards the sixth, which will be released in three parts, starting with the first one premiering later this month.

“Strike First. Strike Hard. No Mercy.” It has been nearly two years since fans have heard the famous mantra in new episodes of Netflix‘s smash hit karate series Cobra Kai. But the wait is almost over. William Zabka, Ralph Macchio, and the rest of the main cast are all set to return to portray their iconic characters one last time in the final season of the comedy-drama series. Created by Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald, Cobra Kai was initially a YouTube Originals series for the first two seasons before moving to Netflix, where it found greater success with a larger audience. Its clever expansion on the decades-long rivalry between The Karate Kid‘s Johnny Lawrence and Daniel Larusso along with its action-packed fight scenes and familial values stole the hearts of older and younger generations alike. But like all good things, Cobra Kai is coming to an end.

The final season of Karate Kid sequel series Cobra Kai has been split into three batches of five episodes. Here’s a trailer for the first one, out this month:
When Cobra Kai premiered on YouTube Red back in 2018, few would have guessed quite how popular the show would become. What began as an affectionate, ‘by the fans for the fans’ legacy show grew into a behemoth that has become one of the biggest shows on Netflix.
What makes Cobra Kai so successful is that creators and writers Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg give Ralph Macchio and William Zabka – reprising their roles of Daniel and Johnny – real character development and story arcs. All while mixing returning legacy characters like John Kreese and Terry Silver with the young cast of karate rivals.
The likes of Yuji Okumoto, Elisabeth Shue, Sean Kanan, Robyn Lively and Tamlyn Tomita have returned across the five series so far.

The “Karate Kid” story just won’t stay down on the mat.
On Monday, Netflix released the trailer for the first part (of three!) of the final season of “Karate Kid” sequel series “Cobra Kai.” There’s kicking and punching and board-breaking (and one 4×4 karate-chopped in half) and all of that, but the preview’s cliffhanger teases the uncovering of Mr. Miyagi’s buried secrets. And we do mean buried — they’re in a clearly constructed crawl space under the floor in what appears to be Daniel-san’s (Ralph Macchio) dojo. There’s even a giant non-flush pull ring on top. We guess the Larusso’s never vacuumed.
Speaking of, what is next for Miyagi-Do/Cobra Kai/whatever the hell they’re calling themselves these days? Well, after several films and five seasons of television across two streamers (“Cobra Kai” was originally a YouTube Red series), we’ve finally moved on from the All-Valley Tournament.

Since the advent of Ott platforms and other streaming services, directors are increasingly minting out notable series or shows across all genres and do not want to limit their cinematic vision to being only released in theaters. There are many great shows in this world and many of them get canceled unjustly, and they don’t get to finish the story they were trying to tell what’s even sadder is that sometimes they end on a note that needs some type of resolution and if it’s a Netflix original series there is even a higher chance of that. The final season of Karate Kid sequel series Cobra Kai had been split into three batches of five episodes. The first will premiere on Netflix on 18th July.
When Cobra Kai premiered on YouTube Red back in 2018, few would have guessed quite how popular the show would become. What began as an affectionate, ‘by the fans for the fans’ legacy show grew into a behemoth that has become one of the biggest shows on Netflix.
What makes Cobra Kai so successful is that creators and writers Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg give Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, reprising their roles of Daniel and Johnny, real character development and story arcs. All while mixing returning legacy characters like John Kreese and Terry Silver with the young cast of karate rivals.
According to Deadline, the synopsis for the sixth and final series reads as follows:

The teaser for the sixth and final season of Cobra Kai depicts white belts practicing, kids in street clothes punching what looks like tennis balls, and Ralph Macchio showing absolutely no shame as he recites the cringe-inducing phrase, “Love the smell of karate in the afternoon.” Despite this, his character, original Karate Kid Daniel Larusso, is able to pull it together long enough to face off with his decades-old nemesis Johnny Lawrence (actor William Zabka) previewing the feud at the heart of the series.

The final season of Cobra Kai will be less bingeable than usual. That’s because Netflix is splitting the supersized season six across three release dates.
On Thursday, the streamer released a teaser trailer (below), along with its release strategy for the popular family drama series.
The 15-episode final season will drop Part 1 on July 18, then hold Part 2 until Nov. 28. A third part, dubbed “The Finale Event,” won’t be released until sometime in 2025.
The official description: “Picking up with Cobra Kai eliminated from the Valley, our senseis and students must decide if and how they will compete in the Sekai Taikai — the world championships of karate.”
Creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg have previously called the decision to end the series “bittersweet” but one that lets them bring Cobra Kai to a close the way they want.
