Born and raised in Dublin, Sean moved to the US when he was 24. He trained to be an actor at The Center Theater, Meisner based school in Chicago and started his career on the Chicago stage. He has lived and worked professionally in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, London and Dublin.
His stage credits include (Tony nominated) Broadway productions of The Seafarer (Nicky Giblin); The 39 Steps (Richard Hannay) and US regional productions of Midsummer Night's Dream (Demetrius) at the La Jolla Playhouse and Stones in his Pockets (Jake) at The Mark Taper Forum.
He has been nominated twice, by the Irish Film and Television Academy for best lead actor for his turn as maverick cop, Brian McGonigle in the television series Red Rock (Amazon Prime, BBC UK). He was further nominated for Best Lead Actor at the Richard Harris International Film Festival for his role as corrupt Politician, Derek Keenan in the family drama, The Edge of Chaos.
He has worked with some of the industry's top directors, Stephen Frears, Ang Lee, Tim Burton, Kathryn Bigelow, Doug Liman, Rod Lurie, Conor McPherson, Maria Aitken and alongside top acting talent, Judi Dench, Cillian Murphy, Vera Farmiga, Marisa Tomei, Jamie, Dornan, John Hawkes.
