In a rare departure, the latest episode of “Only Murders in the Building” ditched the Hulu comedy’s traditional style of filming and opted to shoot in a documentary format, leveraging various static cameras capturing multiple perspectives, as well as a handheld camera.
“I loved it because you’re not aware of any camera, because they’re all actually hidden, or it’s an iPhone on a stand and you’re not trying to really hit a mark. You’re really wandering out,” star and co-creator Steve Martin told TheWrap of Season 4, Episode 6. “They wanted it to look a little sloppy, like actual hidden camera footage and that was really fun to do. It meant that we had to completely know our lines because there’s no cutting.”

[Editor’s note: The following post contains spoilers for Episode 6 of “Only Murders in the Building.”]
In this streaming age, where a lot of television seems designed to stretch a story across eight to 10 hours of bingeable content, it’s fantastic to watch a show commit to a stylistic bit for a single episode. “Only Murders in the Building” has always loved tweaking its format in cheeky ways, and it feels right that for Season 4, with Hollywood interlopers (and an unwilling Zach Galifianakis) interrupting Charles’ (Steve Martin), Mabel’s (Selena Gomez), and Oliver’s (Martin Short) investigations, “Omitb” plays with styles of filmmaking themselves.
Episode 6, “Blow Up,” does so in a couple of ways. The most obvious is that the episode is presented as a companion documentary made by in-universe directors the Brothers Sisters (Catherine Cohen and Siena Werber), using only found and specially recorded footage: The episode’s events unfold from the viewpoint of archival material, Brothers’ Sisters talking heads,...

Only Murders in the Building is absolutely brimming with stars in season 4, but only one had the biggest “entourage” on set. It wasn’t Selena Gomez (Mabel), Steve Martin (Charles), Martin Short (Oliver), or the many other familiar faces on screen such as Meryl Streep (Loretta). How about Eva Longoria, Eugene Levy, and Zach Galifianakis? No, not them, either. The one star with the massive “entourage” had four legs.
The pig had a ‘humongous entourage’ on the set of ‘Only Murders in the Building’ Season 4
According to Michael Cyril Creighton, who plays cat-lover turned dog owner Howard Morris in the award-winning series, the pig came to set with many people in its corner. “She had a humongous entourage, bigger than any star that’s been on the show,” he told TheWrap of the one-year-old who, per NBC, hails from Connecticut.

Who killed Sazz Pataki?
That’s the central question this season on Only Murders in the Building, currently in the middle of the show’s fourth murder case — and this time, it’s personal. Season three ended with the apparent assassination of Charles-Haden Savage’s (Steve Martin) old friend and colleague Sazz (Jane Lynch), and halfway through its fourth season, the case remains wide open. If anything, the case may have a few extra bodies added to it, given where we are at the midpoint of season four.
Much of the season has revolved around a biopic about the Arconia trio of Charles (Martin), Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez), played in the upcoming movie by Eugene Levy, Zach Galifianakis and Eva Longoria, respectively. The case has led Charles, Oliver and Mabel to believe the person who killed Jane Lynch’s Sazz is almost certainly involved in the movie directly.

When we last left off in episode 4 of Only Murders in the Building season 4, Bev Melon from Paramount surprised the Only Murder team in Sazz’s trampoline shed and threatened them at gunpoint. It was a shocking moment that left us on the edge of our seats. Thankfully, the show’s fifth episode wastes no time in picking up where we left off.
Warning spoilers ahead for Only Murders in the Building season 4 episode 5.
After a quick and somewhat random opening sequence involving the Only Murders movie director, we return to Sazz’s trampoline shed where Bev has Charles, Mabel, and Oliver held at gunpoint… that is until she turns on the lights and sees the group.
Bev explains that she’s been on the edge lately and apologizes for pointing the gun at them, assuring them it isn’t loaded only to find out it was indeed loaded as...

“Only Murders in the Building” Season 4 has been jam-packed with celebrities – whether its the introduction of Eva Longoria, Eugene Levy and Zach Galifianakis, the return of Meryl Streep or Paul Rudd, or smaller cameos from stars like Scott Bakula. But it’s also been a plentiful season for some four-legged friends.
“Working with the animals was incredible. What’s cool is you get a chance to meet them. There’s like a meet and greet before, and the handler makes sure they’re comfortable with you and you’re comfortable with them,” Michael Cyril Creighton, who portrays Howard Morris, told TheWrap. “And I was lucky that the animals seemed to be drawn to me. I thought they were all very sweet. We got along very well, good personality matches.”
One of Creighton’s animal scene partners this season is a dog named Molly, who portrays Gravey.
“She’s sort of a pro.

As Martin Short says in the Only Murders in the Building Season 4 teaser clip, “somewhere lay a sniper’s nest,” and the identity of that sniper will prove even more difficult to discover in the latest installment of Hulu’s murder mystery series, which has expanded its star-studded cast quite a bit.
The teaser trailer, plot summary and a new photo reveal the purpose behind the addition of some of the stars, because, in Oliver’s words they’re “goin to the movies.” The “starriest season yet” will arrive this summer on Hulu, bringing back the original trio of sleuths as well as other characters who have been a part of their Arconia drama since the beginning.
A new poster teases the Hollywood plot of Season 4 and bills all the major characters in a great film reel design.

The cast of Only Murders in the Building has become more and more star-studded over the years, and as it approaches its fourth season, the starpower has gone through the roof. The third season recruited Meryl Streep, who remains on board for Season 4, Paul Rudd, Jesse Williams, Ashley Park and more. The murder of Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch), who played Charles-Haden Savage’s stunt double on Brazzos at the end of Season 3 provided the cliffhanger to transition into a fourth installment.
Molly Shannon, Eva Longoria, Eugene Levy, Zach Galifianakis and Kumail Nanjiani were already confirmed as new cast members for the fourth season of the cozy murder mystery, but that wasn’t the end of new additions. The first teaser trailer, released at Disney’s upfront, revealed Melissa McCarthy’s casting as well. The “starriest season yet” will premiere on Hulu Aug. 27. In the fourth episode of Only Murders In The Building season 4, our trio hangs out with some of Sazz’s fellow stuntmen. Our review:
The pub is a British institution. The significance of going for a drink after work can’t be put into words; the pub isn’t just a place, it’s a way of life.
And that’s where Charles, Mabel and Oliver are off to in the new episode of Only Murders In The Building. The trio visit a pub where Sazz and her fellow stuntmen hang out after work. I can’t speak from experience, but I bet a pint of lager hits different after being hit in the face or thrown from a car continuously at work.
The episode actually starts with a strange voiceover. The voice feels distinctly familiar and has a bit of an Irish twang to it. We won’t reveal here who it is,...

The last several years of working on the “Only Murders in the Building” set have been filled with tons of pinch-me moments for Michael Cyril Creighton. But in Season 4 in particular, the actor jokes he’s been “extremely bruised.”
“I’d walk in and I’d be working with Eva Longoria, who I’m a giant fan of; or I’d be watching Eugene Levy do a scene. And then to get to spar with Zach Galifianakis, that wasn’t on my bingo card. I didn’t know that was going to happen, and it is one of my favorite things I’ve done on screen,” the actor told TheWrap. “It’s always surprising and exciting to walk on that set, because you just don’t know what legend you’re going to be acting with that day.”

Charles, Oliver and Mabel team up with their Hollywood doubles to solve Sazz’s murder. Here’s our Only Murders In The Building episode 3 review.
Season 4 of Only Murders In The Building is now off to a good solid start. Charles, Oliver and Mabel are looking into the murder of Charles’ stunt double, Sazz Pataki (a wonderful Jane Lynch), but as we discovered at the end of the last episode, Charles was the intended victim.
You might also remember that Paramount Pictures is interested in turning the trio’s podcast into a Hollywood film, going as far as casting Eva Longoria, Zach Galifianakis and Eugene Levy as Mabel, Oliver and Charles. This week’s episode finds the OGs and the cast team up to find out more about the murderer.
Last week’s episode also revealed that Charles’ old flame Jan, a convicted killer, escaped jail to hide in Charles’ closet.

Only Murders in the Building was originally set to include a lot less of Michael Cyril Creighton’s now-beloved character, Howard Morris.
In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter ahead of the season four premiere, the actor revealed he was initially cast to be in only a couple episodes of the Emmy-winning comedy. Now as the Hulu comedy is has begun its fourth season — and is now coming off a fresh season five renewal — Creighton says he’s the “luckiest guy in showbiz” to be a series regular on the show “everybody wants to be on.”
Since season one, the world of the Arconia has been expanding, and that includes the characters who live in the Upper West Side building in Manhattan like Howard. Creighton says he didn’t know much about his character when he was first introduced, except that...

Only Murders in the Building has been a wonderful show, but just how much is each of the stars worth? Find out here!
Only Murders in the Building has become one of Hulu’s best hits. This mystery-comedy focuses on actor Charles (Steve Martin), Broadway producer Oliver (Martin Short) and artist Mabel (Selena Gomez) forming an unlikely team to solve murders occurring in their Manhattan apartment complex and doing a podcast on it.
Each season has been marked with huge guest stars, fun twists, and a compelling mystery that makes it pretty watchable. The main cast is small yet notable for their stardom and some nice wealth to them. Midway through the fourth season of Only Murders in the Building, NYPD Detective Williams (Da’Vine Joy Randolph) complains once again about how true-crime podcasters Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short), and Mabel (Selena Gomez) keep stumbling their way into and through murder investigations. Her objection isn’t just to these three civilians consistently putting themselves in danger and interfering with the work of real police, but with the shoddiness of their sleuthing, which this time around has produced so many suspects that they need multiple murder boards to fit them all.

This post contains spoilers for the first episode of "Only Murders in the Building" season 4.
Who doesn't love a good movie reference? Hulu's popular mystery-comedy "Only Murders in the Building" always has, whether it's crafting a set featuring stealth nods to many of Meryl Streep's best roles or letting Steve Martin deliver a cute "Father of the Bride" joke during a climactic moment. The show's references have always been great, but they've never been an overt, overlying theme of the series so much as a series of semi-subtle winks and nods for the movie buffs watching. The new, Hollywood-centric fourth season seems set to change that.
The new season starts off with an ode to the movies, delivered in the form of Charles' (Martin) final podcast recording for last season's mystery, the death of movie star Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd). "Motion pictures were created over a hundred years ago,...

Would it be that unbelievable if Steve Martin, Selena Gomez and Martin Short announced they were releasing an album together?
All three “Only Murders in the Building” stars have singing chops, and Season 3 of their hit Hulu series featured the “Death Rattle Dazzle” musical.
“Can you imagine?” Martin said when I suggested the trio record an album at the recent Los Angeles premiere of “Only Murders” Season 4. “It’ll be called ‘Banjos, Show Tunes and Pop.’”
He cracked, “It’s a perfect blend. It’s out finally – due to popular demand.”
Short added, “I’ll tell you what wouldn’t sell.”
As for new music from Gomez, it doesn’t sound like it’s happening anytime soon. “I’m in love with this right now,” she said. “I’m enjoying this.”
All three “Only Murders” stars go into Emmys night next month with acting nominations. The show received a total 21 noms.

“Only Murders in the Building” Season 4 dropped a trailer Tuesday, teasing how Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez) come to terms with who’s playing them in the Hollywood adaptation of their podcast story. Everyone would be happy, if only Oliver knew who Zach Galifianakis is.
Eugene Levy is cast as Charles and Eva Longoria is cast as Mabel in the show-within-a-show, to both the respective subjects’ delight. Oliver, meanwhile, has no clue who Galifianakis is and, as shown in the trailer, mistakes him as “the little boy from ‘Home Alone'” and calls him “Zach Gali-fragililistic.”
Watch the trailer below:
The trailer also previewed more of Meryl Streep as Oliver’s love interest Loretta and Molly Shannon as a Hollywood executive.
Hilarity, of course, ensues when the actors spend time with their podcasting counterparts as a character study. Levy plays the concertina accordion for Charles,...

Their investigation takes them to Hollywood, where a film studio is working on an adaptation of the podcast.
Other new cast members in Season 4 include Molly Shannon, Kumail Nanjiani, Desmin Borges, Richard Kind, and Melissa McCarthy.

Only Murders in the Building is going Hollywood in a major way with Season 4.
While the overall plot for the season had mostly remained under wraps, it was revealed in mid-May via a teaser trailer why the core trio Charles-Haden Savage (Steve Martin), Oliver Putnam (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez) would be headed to Los Angeles.
Charles, Oliver and Mabel will wrestle with the shocking events at the end of season three surrounding Charles’ stunt double & friend Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch). Questioning whether Sazz or Charles was the intended victim, the trio’s investigation leads them to Los Angeles where a Hollywood studio is readying a film about the Only Murders podcast. As our amateur sleuths race back to New York, they embark on an even more epic journey — traversing their building’s courtyard to delve into the twisted lives of the Arconia’s West Tower residents.

Only Murders In The Building Heads to Hollywood in New Season 4 Teaser - Main Image
Disney has dropped the first teaser trailer of the Emmy-winning mystery comedy series Only Murders in the Building:
The trailer confirms what we already know: Season 4 will see our amateur true crime podcasters Oliver Putnam (Martin Short), Charles Haden-Savage (Steve Martin), and Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez) hit the streets of Los Angeles, as they find a studio interested in bringing Only Murders to the big screen.
In the cliffhanger finale of Season 3, our amateur sleuths join an after-party to celebrate the triumphant opening night of Oliver’s murder mystery musical Death Razzle Dazzle. Not long after they close the case of Ben Glenroy’s elevator accident, they will be confronted soon by the “hot, fresh, dead body” of Charles’s friend and long-time stunt double Sazz Pataki (played by Jane Lynch).

"Only Murders in the Building" has earned pretty much universal acclaim for its first three seasons, including an 8 out of 10 /Film review from Josh Spiegel for season 3. It's also been responsible for Meryl Streep's return to TV, a weirdly catchy original Steve Martin tune (or two), and an official companion podcast called "Only Murders in the Pod." Plus, of course, the show has won four Primetime Emmys and counting. So what's next for the series? In a word: Hollywood.
After three seasons spent solving murders in their unusually deadly New York City apartment building, amateur sleuths Mabel (Selena Gomez), Charles (Steve Martin), and Oliver (Martin Short) are making a great escape. While last season of the zany Hulu mystery series saw the trio of podcast hosts turned frequent murder suspects unmask Ben Glenroy's (Paul Rudd) killer and seemingly get embroiled in another East Coast death, the first teaser for...
