Sean Bryant Doherty is the elder child of Tom Doherty and Rosa Doherty. His younger sister was Shannen Doherty. Doherty has Irish Catholic ancestry on his father's side, and English, Scottish, and Scots-Irish ancestry on his mother's side. He earned his bachelor's degree in International Relations and Affairs at the University of Southern California (1989-1991).
He is a producer, founder and CEO of Sharpened Iron productions, and is a former politician, lobbyist and political consultant with Wildhorse Consulting. On 2017, with his sister, they campaigned to build support for HR 1406, the dog and cat consumption prohibition act of 2017.
Sean and his wife, Than, have 7 children: Virginia Anne, Sean Bryant Jr., Tabitha Elizabeth, John Thomas, Francis Blair, Dixon Morris, and Zachariah Benjamin.
