The Writers Guild of America East (Wgae) has revealed the results of its 2024 council election, electing 13 new members to the leadership team.

The council consist of 20 members: 12 film/tv/streaming members, five online media members, three broadcast/cable/streaming news members, and five officers, including president, secretary-treasurer and three vice presidents, each representing one work sector. For this election, open positions included online media vice president, broadcast/cable/streaming news vice president, six film/TV/streaming positions, two online media positions and three broadcast/cable/streaming news positions.

Sara David was elected vice president of the online media sector. Beth Godvik was elected vice president of the broadcast/cable/streaming news sector. Monica Lee Bellais, Larry J Cohen, Don P. Hooper, Victoria Pollack, Celine Robinson and Suzanne Weber were elected as council members representing the film/TV/streaming members. Susan Rinkunas and Jessica Schulberg were elected to rep online media members.

Writers Guild of America East members have re-elected Sara David as vice president of their online media division and appointed Beth Godvik as the new vice president of broadcast, cable and streaming news in their first council election since the union’s 2023 strike concluded.

Godvik is taking over on the council for Kathy McGee, who did not run for re-election in the role. Godvik has served on the WGA East Council for two years while David, who ran unopposed, has served on the council for three years.

The WGA East Council is the union’s governing body, consisting of 20 council members and five executive officers across three work sectors represented by the union.

Maia Mitchell, Belmont Cameli and Peter Stormare have joined the cast of Until Dawn, Sony’s Screen Gems and PlayStation Productions’ feature adaptation of the hit horror video game.

Mitchell, Cameli and Stormare join Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Ji-young Yoo and Odessa A’zion on the call sheet for the production, which begins shooting in mid-August.

David F. Sandberg, who last directed Shazam! Fury of the Gods, is returning to the horror genre with the project and is reuniting with his Annabelle: Creation writer-producer Gary Dauberman on it.

Dauberman, who has a first-look deal with the studio, wrote the most recent draft of the script and is producing under his Coin Operated banner with Mia Maniscalco, alongside Sandberg and his Mångata partner Lotta Losten. One day after the Writers Guild of America ratified its 2023 strike-ending contract, Lowell Peterson has announced that he is stepping down from the post of WGA East executive director.

“I am proud of my work to transform the Wgae into a more powerful force for writers,” Peterson said in a statement on Tuesday. “I am grateful to have had the opportunity to collaborate with such extraordinary leaders, members, and staff. Their activism, creativity, and diligence have been essential to our success.” Peterson will leave his post after his deal expires on Nov. 15, following 15 years of leadership at the union.

The guild’s director of contract enforcement and credits, Geoff Betts, will lead on an interim basis as the labor group searches for a new executive director. Variety was the first to report the news.

In the WGA East’s other officer elections, two other candidates also ran unopposed. Chris Kyle was re-elected secretary-treasurer, and Erica Saleh, a member of the guild’s Council, will be the next VP of Film/TV/Streaming – the post previously held by Cullen.

Votes were cast by 13.3% of total eligible voters for president and secretary-treasurer.

More than 400 prominent female writers and showrunners sent a letter today to the heads of the major studios expressing their “grave concerns” about the companies’ “lack of specific production protocols” to protect their workers in anti-abortion states.

The letters, which state that “it is unacceptable to ask any person to choose between their human rights and their employment,” also demanded that the companies “pledge to discontinue all political donations to anti-abortion candidates and political action committees immediately.”

In 2018 Netflix came out with an original movie based on a young-adult novel by Jenny Han called To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. It was a charming, whimsical teen rom-com that was a genuinely good film. It did very well, too, and so they’ve released a sequel, based on the sequel book by Han. Directed by Michael Fimognari (who directed the first film too) and with screenplay penned by Sofia Alvarez and J. Mills Goodloe, P.S. I Still Love You continues the story of Lara Jean, her life, her love and everything in-between.

We revisit Lara Jean, played with a sparky energy by the talented Lana Condor, who is in the early stages of a relationship with Peter (Noah Centineo) and still learning what it means to be in her first relationship.

Netflix debuted a first look at the sequel to its hit romantic comedy, “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.”

The follow-up, titled “To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You,” catches up with high-school sweethearts Lara Jean (portrayed by Lana Candor) and Peter (Noah Centineo). But there’s a sense that things might not be as peachy as they seem.

Their relationship takes a complicated turn when Lara Jean’s old crush, John Ambrose McLaren (played by Jordan Fisher), shows up. He reveals that he received a letter from Lara Jean expressing her love for him in middle school, one of many sent out by her younger sister in the first movie.

“I’m gonna need that letter back,” Lara Jean tells McLaren, who jokes, “I’m gonna need proof that someone actually liked me in middle school.”
