The 50-year-old Sherlock actress received the apology after claiming she was bullied by her Strictly Come Dancing partner Giovanni Pernice during the show last year.

After a months-long investigation, a ruling was announced on Monday (September 30).

In a statement, via Deadline, the BBC said: “We have assessed the complaints and we have upheld some, but not all, of the complaints made. We want to apologize to Amanda Abbington and to thank her for coming forward and taking part. We know this would not have been an easy thing to do.”

The British broadcaster has concluded a months-long investigation into Abbington’s complaints and, in a ruling announced on Monday, partially upheld some of her concerns.

In a statement, the BBC said: “We have assessed the complaints and we have upheld some, but not all, of the complaints made. We want to apologize to Amanda Abbington and to thank her for coming forward and taking part. We know this would not have been an easy thing to do.”

The BBC was not specific about what complaints had been upheld and it is unlikely to say more because of its confidentiality policies.

Pernice has consistently denied wrongdoing and in a statement on Monday, his representatives said the review found no evidence of “threatening or abusive” behavior.

The BBC is “pretty close” to finalizing an investigation into Amanda Abbington’s allegations that she was mistreated by her Strictly Come Dancing partner Giovanni Pernice.

BBC director general Tim Davie told the Rts London Convention that the corporation is on the brink of ruling on Abbington’s concerns, although he did not commit to publishing the findings.

There was some hope that the investigation could be finalized before the new season of Strictly Come Dancing got underway on Saturday, but Davie said the BBC was unable to hit the deadline.

The controversy over behaviour behind the scenes of the UK’s Strictly Come Dancing wages on, with one former contestant saying this weekend she raised concerns during her time on the show, but was “gaslit to make it seem normalised.”

TV presenter Laura Whitmore did not name the individual she complained about, but she took part in the show in 2016, when she was partnered with Italian professional Giovanni Pernice. In an interview with The Irish Times newspaper this weekend, she said she it was “all coming out now, stuff I tried to speak about eight years ago.”

Whitmore couldn’t talk about the content of her complaints because, she explained, “it’s under review,” but she stressed she had raised concerns at the time.

She told The Irish Times that she either wasn’t listened to when she tried to complain, “Or [I was] gaslit to make it seem normalised.”

Another weekend, another allegation about bad behaviour behind the scenes of the UK’s biggest entertainment TV show, with former contestant Laura Whitmore alleging she was the target of “inappropriate behaviour” when she took part in Strictly Come Dancing.

While the reality TV hit usually airs in the summer, this was the second special winter season, premiering in January. Instead of the summer's Mallorca location, the season played out in a new South African villa. Maya Jama also made her debut as the show's host, taking over for Laura Whitmore.

On the finale, Maya announced that Kai Fagan and Sanam Harrinanan won the £50,000 prize. According to ITV's voting percentages, Kai and Sanam received 44-percent, less than the overwhelming lead of last year's winners Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and Davide Sanclimenti.

In second place were original couple Ron Hall and Lana Jenkins. Bombshells Tom Clare and Samie Elishi came in third, while Shaq Mohammed and Tanya Manhenga got fourth.

Sanam Harrinanan and Kai Fagan have won the second-ever winter series of Love Island.

The social worker and teacher beat out competition from fellow finalists Samie Elishi and Tom Clare, Tanya Mahenga and Shaq Muhammad and Lana Jenkins and Ron Hall.

Sanam is the first ever Casa Amor contestant to have won the series.

Host Maya Jama, who took over from Laura Whitmore this season, was in South Africa to announce the winners.

The two chose to share the £50,000 prize after being given the option to steal it for themselves.

“I can’t believe it, I’m still shocked to even be here,” Sanam told Jama.

Shaq and Tanya were the first finalists to go. “When I first saw her, she looked incredible. And the more I got to know her, I fell for her so quickly,” Shaq told Jama.

Meanwhile, Tanya told the host host: “Shaq’s always been on me.

Harry Styles continues to sweep at awards shows and this time the former One Direction member took the top accolades at the 2023 Brit Awards.

Controversial podcast host Joe Rogan is once again receiving backlash, this time for comments that critics have labelled “antisemitic”.

The Joe Rogan Experience host was discussing US Representative Ilhan Omar with his guests, Breaking Points co-hosts Krystal Ball and Saagar Enjeti, during a recent episode when he made the offending statements.

Omar was recently removed from the Foreign Affairs Committee by Republicans over accusations that she is antisemitic.

In 2019, she tweeted that Republicans wanted to condemn her comments about Israel because “It’s all about the Benjamins, baby”, a reference to Benjamin Franklin being on 100 bills. She later apologised for her comments.

“That’s not an antisemitic comment, I don’t think that is. Benjamins are money,” Rogan said on his podcast.

He continued: “The idea that Jewish people are not into money is ridiculous. That’s like saying Italians aren’t into pizza. It’s f***ing stupid.”

The Advertising Standards Authority (Asa) has banned social media posts from Laura Whitmore promoting an alcohol brand for being inappropriately targeted.

In July, the former Love Island host shared a post on Instagram and TikTok of her dancing while drinking peppermint tea, water and beer.

Whitmore then drank a beverage from drinks brand The Muff Liquor Company – of which she is an investor – and danced energetically.

The hashtag “#makemineamuff” featured in both the video and caption, the latter reading: “If drinks were dance moves muffliquorco #muffboss #irishowned.”

A complaint was made by a social media user who knew that Whitmore had invested in the company. They questioned whether the ads were obviously identifiable as marketing communications, and were inappropriately targeted because they featured alcoholic drinks, as they implied alcohol could improve your mood and enhance confidence.

Stirling appeared as a guest on Good Morning Britain on Wednesday (18 January) to speak about the current series of Love Island.

The Scottish comedian and presenter has provided the voice-over for the hit ITV2 reality series since 2015.
