For movie fans, December means warding off the Wet Bandits, being seduced by a leg lamp and, to some, defending Nakatomi Plaza from terrorists. It’s just in our nature to clutter the month with our favorite holiday movies, creating a sort of advent calendar of Christmas joy and even misery (that scene in Gremlins is dark!).
Now, The Guardian is getting into the holiday spirit with their own advent calendar, recruiting a stable of notable filmmakers and stars to give their picks, all designated for certain days. While not all are Christmas movies per-se, the directors did support their opinions. Let’s run through some of the calendar, shall we?
By and large, it has to be pointed out that most of the movies on this advent calendar did center around the holiday season. After all, who wouldn’t include Love Actually (day 3), a Home Alone (Leila Farzad – director...

Bridget’s back, and she’s still trying to figure things out.
The first trailer for Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy has been released, and Renée Zellweger’s Bridget is still looking for love as she comes to terms with the tragedy of losing Mark Darcy (Colin Firth). Yep, you read that correctly, Darcy is no more and the trailer serves up the bad news straight away.
Still, the only way is up for our Bridget as she gets on with life, and the prospect of not one but two possible romances. There’s the hunky and age-appropriate Mr. Wallaker (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a teacher at Bridget’s children’s school and the wild card of Roxster (Leo Woodall), the youthful bit of rough that should be a red flag.

As Bridget Jones prepares to return to the big screen next year, a whole new generation is identifying with the beloved films’ literary source material.
Author Helen Fielding recently opened up about her newfound fanbase at the Cheltenham Literature Festival and how the titular character has become even more relevant to friends of her 18-year-old daughter, amid the age of TikTok and the Body Positivity Movement.
“What’s good now is that there’s a new audience for Bridget that’s young, that’s Gen Z,” she said, according to BBC. “I’m really happy when 18-year-olds and 20-year-olds come with their books and talk to me about it and say that they find it comforting to laugh at these things.”
Fielding added, “I spent the last two years surrounded by teenage girls, because they all came to my house, and I can see what they’ve got in common with Bridget.

It’s a running gag that powerhouse streamer Netflix loves to cancel its original series.
Very few TV Fanatics have escaped Netflix’s penchant for ax-swinging when it comes to some of our favorite series.
And now, the gods were not smiling down on the modern-day Greek mythology series, Kaos.

There is nothing quite like Kaos currently on the air, and unfortunately, now there isn’t anything at all.

Charlie Covell has urged fans to “please keep talking about Kaos” after the shock cancellation of the Netflix show earlier this week.
Fans were left blindsided on Tuesday when one of the lead actors, Aurora Perrineau, posted on Instagram saying that the show would be ending after one season. This came a few weeks after Covell said they had ideas for another two seasons of the Sister-produced series, which starred Jeff Goldblum, Janet McTeer and Nabhaan Rizwan.
Taking to Sister’s Instagram in the past few minutes, Covell said “my hope now is that people still continue to discover and enjoy the show.”
“I reckon there are some potential fans out there who might need more time to find it, so please keep talking about Kaos if you enjoyed it,” wrote Covell, who also created the hit The End of the F***ing World series for Netflix and Channel 4.

Netflix has decided against making another series of Kaos, its new show starring Jeff Goldblum. More on it being cancelled here.
Before she created Kaos, which was revently released on Netflix, Charlie Covell wrote several terrific shows including Truelove, a dark drama for Channel 4 with a brilliant ensemble cast including Lindsay Duncan and Clarke Peters, and The End Of The F***ing World, about a teenager who believes himself to be a psychopath, which is now on Netflix and is well worth watching.
The synopsis for Kaos reads as follows:
Zeus (Jeff Goldblum) has long enjoyed his status as King of The Gods. Until he wakes up and discovers a wrinkle on his forehead. Neurosis sets in, setting him off on a dangerous, paranoid path. Zeus becomes convinced his fall is coming – and starts to see signs of it everywhere. Zeus’ once reliable brother, Hades (David Thewlis), the God of the Underworld,...

We had a feeling that this announcement was coming after star Aurora Perrineau shared and then deleted a cryptic social media post late last night, and Variety has now confirmed that Netflix has cancelled Kaos after a single season.
The black comedy drama, which stars Jeff Goldblum as the all-powerful King of the Gods, Zeus, only premiered on the streamer in late August. Though reviews were mostly positive (76% on Rotten Tomatoes), the 8-episode series arrived without much fanfare.
Though the show's viewership numbers were nothing special, they were far from disastrous.
Kaos appeared in Netflix’s top 10 charts for English-language series in each of its first four weeks on the streamer, topping out at No. 3 for the week of Sept. 2-8. It earned 14.9 million views (measured by total viewing time divided by running time) over those weeks.
Perrineau has since shared the following.

Tell me if you've heard this one before: barely a month after a new show premiered its first season on Netflix, the streamer has decided to unceremoniously cancel it and chuck it in the bin. In this case, the show is Kaos, a series about Greek mythology set in the modern day, with characters like Zeus (Jeff Goldblum) and Hera (Janet McTeer) lording over Greece while mere humans scramble to worship them. Or at least that's what the humans are supposed to do; Kaos is all about what happens when that system goes off the rails, thanks in no small part to an unhealthy dose of paranoia and broken promises from the gods in charge.
Variety reports that Netfix has decided not to renew Kaos for a second season. It debuted on the platform on August 29, which means this decision comes just over five weeks later. That's a pretty short...

In the deleted post, Perrineau said, “Well… this one hurts. I find explaining how I’m feeling to be really difficult, but I’ll try. “Kaos” will no longer reign on Netflix. The streamer has canceled the Greek mythology series, TheWrap has learned. The show hailed from “The End of the F***king World” creator Charlie Covell and put a modern twist on Greek mythology – three humans contend with the corrupt gods as they discover their connection to one another and an overarching prophecy.
Jeff Goldblum played Zeus in the show with Janet McTeer as Hera, Cliff Curtis as Poseidon, David Thewlis as Hades, Debi Mazar as Medusa and Stephen Dillane as Prometheus.
The ensemble also included Aurora Perrineau, Leila Farzad, Suzy Eddie Izzard and Rakie Ayola. “Kaos” premiered on Aug. 29, so this is a pretty swift cancellation from Netflix. The show debuted with only 3.4 million views during its first week of release, ticked up to 5.9 million views in its second week and then dipped back down to 3.4 million on its third week.

“Kaos,” the Greek mythology comedy series that premiered in late August, has been canceled at Netflix, Variety has learned.
The show premiered on August 29 and starred Jeff Goldblum as the all mighty Zeus, albeit in a more whimsical and insecure portrayal. Although he couldn’t make it to her baby shower, Hugh Grant is back in Bridget Jones’ life.
The Golden Globe winner will return for the upcoming fourth installment of Renée Zellweger‘s romantic comedy franchise, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, after carving out a spot for his womanizing character Daniel Cleaver.
He recently explained to Vanity Fair why he opted not to reprise the role for 2016’s Bridget Jones’s Baby. “I really couldn’t fit my character in—he just didn’t belong, so I stepped aside,” he said.
The third installment featured Zellweger’s titular character unexpectedly pregnant at 40, trying to determine whether the father is her ex Mark (Colin Firth) or handsome American stranger Jack (Patrick Dempsey). Although Grant did not return for that movie, Bridget attends a memorial for her ex, who is presumed dead after a plane crash.

Baz Luhrmann’s “Romeo + Juliet” was a big influence on the Netflix series “Kaos,” the show’s star Aurora Perrineau said, and “Mercutio was prominent” on the show’s mood board. The biggest surprise, she added via X: “It wasn’t until partway through filming that the creators found out he is my dad.”
Perrineau’s father Harold chimed in, quoting his daughter’s story on the social media platform mand adding, “This is a true story!”

By the power of Jeff Goldblum, Kaos might just reign once again.
Although Netflix has yet to renew the series for Season 2, creator Charlie Covell (The End of the F***ing World) said the streaming platform has “been very supportive” of the show, which puts a contemporary spin on the classic tales of Greek mythology.
“I think anything is possible,” Covell told Cosmopolitan UK. “My dream was three seasons. I’ve got many ideas and a strong sense of what I’d want to do with it.”
They added about the potential for a sophomore season, “There’s definitely more. I also didn’t want to do an ending that was a total cliffhanger. I hope that it feels satisfying as a season one in its own right, and there’s always hope for the more. Because I really would love to do more and work with those actors and that team.

Plot: Having long enjoyed his status as King of The Gods, Zeus’ reign has never been truly threatened. That is until he wakes up one morning and discovers a wrinkle on his forehead. Believing it to be the harbinger of an ancient prophecy which foretells his destruction, neurosis sets in: Zeus becomes convinced his fall is coming. As his paranoia takes hold, the God of Gods – seeing signs everywhere – starts to dangerously self-destruct. And he’s right to be worried. Zeus’ one time friend and now prisoner, Prometheus, is orchestrating a plan to bring him down. The plan involves three disparate humans, all of whom are totally unaware of their cosmic significance or the part they must play in saving the world. No pressure. (Some pressure).

Playing like Percy Jackson for grownups, with a dash of American Gods and Hadestown thrown in for good measure, Netflix’s dark comedy Kaos is packed with big ideas that creator Charlie Covell struggles to explore in any depth.
Over eight hour-long episodes, my response to Kaos and its often clever upending of mythological tropes went from “That’s really cool, I can’t wait to see what they do with that” to “That’s interesting, but I know it won’t go anywhere” to “Meh.” With an impressive cast, a cheeky tone and little investment in substantive follow-through, the show goes from promising to frustrating to disappointing — albeit with tantalizing hints throughout of what could have been.

“A line appears, the order wanes, the family falls and chaos reigns...”
A couple of brief teasers aside, Netflix hasn't really been promoting Kaos, but the streamer has finally released a proper trailer for the contemporary Greek mythology drama, which stars Jeff Goldblum as the all-powerful King of the Gods, Zeus.
From the writer of The End of the F*cking World and the producers of Chernobyl, the 8-episode series revolves around three humans and a demigod as they discover their connection to each other and to a long-standing ancient prophecy while being forced to contend with the corrupt and arrogant gods of Greek mythology.
The footage introduces Goldblum's stylish take on Zeus, who lives in the lap of luxury while demanding that mortals worship him. It seems his power is diminished when humans stop fearing the gods, and Zeus sets out to do something about it.

No one knows chaos theory like Jeff Goldblum. In Netflix‘s new Kaos trailer, the seriously sauve actor is about to teach a lesson in vengeance, disorder, and the consequences of messing with the natural order, his order. Suppose the world’s got you on edge, and the media cycle makes you want to bury your head in the sand until November 6. In that case, Netflix is about to unleash a distraction of epic proportions, thanks to a new series about faith, defiance, and owning up to one’s mistakes.

Netflix has launched the full official trailer for the upcoming series ‘Kaos’ in which Jeff Goldblum plays the role of the all-powerful god, Zeus.
Zeus: King of the Gods, ruler of the world. He’s cruel, stylish and all-powerful.
That is until he’s not. From BAFTA-winning screenwriter and showrunner Charlie Covell (The End Of The F***ing World), Kaos is a bold, darkly comic, contemporary take on Greek mythology: exploring love, power, and life in the underworld.
Having long enjoyed his status as king of the gods, Zeus’s reign has never been truly threatened. That is until he wakes up one morning and discovers a wrinkle on his forehead. Believing it to be the harbinger of an ancient prophecy which foretells his destruction, neurosis sets in: Zeus becomes convinced his fall is coming. Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for “Kaos,” which will release on Netflix Aug. 29.
The upcoming Netflix drama “Kaos” is an old tale with a distinctly modern spin. Jeff Goldblum stars as Zeus, king of the gods, but in this telling he’s an aging, sexually incontinent, increasingly paranoid figure — Logan Roy springs to mind — trying to keep his grip on his family and his empire.
“Why do we come back to myths?” says creator Charlie Covell, musing on the source material of the series, which drops on Aug. 29. “They’re timeless; the issues are eternal.” Indeed, the story has been a long time in the making for Covell, who sees the themes of “power, abuse of power, love, death, family and dysfunctional family” as continually relevant — and eternally fascinating — to audiences.
“Kaos,” like “Succession,” centers on powerful siblings at each other’s throats, but these are no mere mortals...

No matter how bad your summer vacations have been, they could in no way compare to the sheer horror of the villa getaway in “The Decameron,” one that is as filled with black comedy as it is with the Black Death.
Set in 14th-century Italy, Newtflix’s eight-episode limited series finds a group of (mostly) nobles fleeing the death and decay surrounding them to wall themselves away in a fortified palace, where they plan to frolic, drink, and generally be merry. Human nature being what it is, however, their plans are quickly derailed, and the show takes on a darker tone as the body count rises.
Along the way, there are enough secret identities and miscommunication to populate a Shakespeare play (though Giovanni Boccaccio’s book predates the Bard by a few hundred years). With a large ensemble and ever-shifting alliances, the costume design must pull its weight to keep...

Modern television has provided ample evidence that time does not dictate genre. The Emmys learned this the hard way, when they tried to bypass the comedy or drama debates by using runtimes to decide category placement, only to be swarmed by even more controversy during their confounding, seemingly arbitrary appeals process. Yes, it turns out half-hour shows can be dramas and hourlong shows can skew comedic. Look no further than some of TV’s buzziest, best shows: “The White Lotus”, “Succession”, and “The Bear” (let’s not start that up again).
But while time may not determine what a series is labeled, it does often weigh heavily on a series’ success. More important than shoving a show into one box or another is recognizing that many of these shows are successful because they blur the lines. “The Bear” serves up intense kitchen scenarios that can skew toward sitcom set-ups, yet...

The Decameron begins with an invitation.
Visconte Leonardo invites a group of (mostly single) nobles to escape the bubonic plague ravaging 1348 Florence and reside at his Italian countryside oasis.
The honored guests include his bride-to-be Pampinea (Zosia Mamet) and her loyal handmaiden Misia (Saoirse-Monica Jackson); Panfilo (Karan Gill) and his pious wife Neifile (Lou Gala); Tindaro (Douggie McMeekin) and his doctor Dioneo (Amar Chadha-Patel); and his cousin Filomena (Jessica Plummer) who brings her servant –– and secret half-sister! –– Licisca (Tanya Reynolds).
When every guest turns up with their own hidden agenda, Leonardo’s humble steward Sirisco (Tony Hale) and cook Stratilia (Leila Farzad) are there to greet them. Why isn’t Leonardo there, you ask? Well, hold your horse-drawn carriages, because Leonardo has actually died, long before any of the guests even arrive. After a series of brief teaser promos, Netflix has released a full trailer for its upcoming Greek mythology show, Kaos, which stars Jeff Goldblum as the all-powerful King of the Gods, Zeus.
From the writer of The End of the F*cking World and the producers of Chernobyl, the 8-episode series is a mythological dark-comedy which revolves around six humans as they discover their connection to each other and to a long-standing ancient prophecy while being forced to contend with the corrupt and arrogant gods of Greek mythology.
The footage introduces Goldblum's stylish take on Zeus, who lives in the lap of luxury while demanding that mortals worship him. It seems his power is diminished when humans stop believing in and fearing the gods, and Zeus sets out to do something about it.
Zeus' exact plan is not explained here, but it sounds like he intends to unleash the might...

Jeff Goldblum’s Zeus is sick to death of being underappreciated in the face of a fast-moving, ever-changing world filled with ungrateful humans obsessed with their miserable lives. Nowadays, people pray less, and when’s the last time anyone thanked the Father of the Gods for all they have? As Zeus sees it, humans only call to a higher power when they feel threatened. If that’s the case, why bother to bestow blessings upon them when you could have them praying in fear instead? Humans need an awe-inspiring old-fashioned disaster to remind them who’s in charge. Who better to give it to them than Zeus? This line of thinking is unreasonable. It’s madness. It’s Kaos. Let Goldblum show you how to make humans worship again in Netflix‘s Kaos teaser trailer.

Have you ever wondered what “Love Island” would be like if it were set in the 1300s? Netflix’s new dark-comedy series “The Decameron” will answer all of your questions.
The series, created by Kathleen Jordan and executive produced by “Orange Is the New Black” and “Weeds” alum Jenji Kohan, is loosely based on Italian Author Giovanni Boccacio’s short story collection from the mid-14th century. The plot begins after “The Black Death strikes hard in the Italian countryside in 1348, and a handful of nobles retreat to a grand villa with their servants. But what starts as a wine-soaked sex romp descends into a race for survival in this soapy dark comedy,” according to the official description.
Keep reading to find out what stars are traveling back in time to the 1340s in our complete “The Decameron” cast and character guide. The show is now streaming on Netflix.

Netflix has debuted a teaser trailer for the upcoming series ‘Kaos’ in which Jeff Goldblum plays the role of the all-powerful god, Zeus.
As his paranoia takes hold, the god of gods – seeing signs everywhere – starts to dangerously self-destruct.
