"There is something weird going on here." Brainstorm Media has revealed the funny official trailer for an indie comedy called Daniel's Gotta Die, made by filmmaker Jeremy Lalonde. This initially premiered back in 2022 at the Austin Film Festival and has played at a number of other film festivals but is only now getting an official release this year - including on VOD this February. Daniel Powell's plan to reconnect with his siblings hits a snag when he discovers they all want to kill him for his inheritance. As the brothers and sisters are forced to spend the weekend together at the family beach house on the Cayman Islands, one thing becomes painfully clear: Daniel's going to find out what family means, even if it kills him. After spending December revisiting Joel Schumacher’s 2004 version of The Phantom of the Opera (listen), Bette Davis’ Hush…Hush, Sweet Charlotte (listen) and Damien Leone’s Terrifier 3 (listen), Trace and I rang in 2025 with a look back at Sophia Takal‘s Into The Dark entry, New Year, New You (2018), co-written with Adam Gaines.
In the Hulu film, Alexis (Suki Waterhouse) joins friends Kayla (Kirby Howell-Baptiste), Chloe (Melissa Bergland) and social media influencer Danielle (Carly Chaikin) to ring in the new year.
But Alexis has ulterior motives for attending this year’s festivities. She blames Danielle for her facial disfigurement, resents her for her fame, and has a devious plan to exact revenge. The party quickly turns into a hostage situation with Kayla and Chloe forced to pick sides as the other two work out their issues in an escalating series of verbal and physical spats.
Will Alexis get her revenge?...

Fargo is one of the most brilliant and weird series that has probably ever been made. While the series is brilliant and gets better with each season, the wait between each season is very long because the creator Noah Hawley is attached to many projects, and he doesn’t have much time to create new seasons every year. So, if you love the surreal humor, psychological thriller, and crime drama aspects of Fargo here are some similar shows you should check out next.

Miramax TV is developing and producing a new original series entitled “Messy,” created by actress Carly Chaikin, Variety has learned exclusively. Chaikin is known best for playing the role of Darlene in USA Network’s “Mr. Robot” and co-starring as Dalia Royce in ABC’s “Suburgatory.” Chaikin not only wrote “Messy,” but will also star in the dark comedy about a mother-daughter duo that organizes houses for a living (the irony is that both of their lives are total messes). Chaikin will play the daughter. In addition, Liz Brizius, the Emmy-nominated co-creator and co-showrunner of Showtime’s “Nurse Jackie,” will serve as showrunner as part of the overall deal she inked with Miramax TV last summer. Also attached to produce “Messy” are Julie Bowen and Rachael Field of Bowen & Sons, who both previously worked together on the ABC sitcom “Modern Family.” “Carly Chaikin has written a refreshingly original comedy...

Sound should be 50 percent of filmmaking, but too often, it’s not. This is doubly true of television, where the pre-planning required to fully incorporate sound design into the creator’s vision, and the time it takes to then execute, is incongruous with the assembly line schedule of producing episodes back-to-back, week in and week out. So how does a TV creator like Sam Esmail, for whom sound is actually 50 perfect of his storytelling, pull it off on “Mr. Robot” and “Homecoming”? The answer is supervising sound editor Kevin Buchholz. “There’s a deeper connection that you can [make] with sound,” Esmail said. “But for me to really get a handle, even if it’s just prepping and looking for locations, it really is about how can I also include this other 50 percent, the audio, in the final experience. So Kevin is there and very informative at every step along the way.

Mr. Robot Season 4 Episode 10
Last week, Mr. Robot gave us its best episode of the season – an intense and stressful hour that saw Elliot and Darlene finally triumph over Whiterose and the villainous Deus Group. That the series chooses to follow up that installment with a meandering character piece in which Elliot only appears for five minutes is a perfect example of both the best and worst of Mr. Robot season 4 all at once.
As an individual episode, “Gone” is pretty solid. It’s focused almost exclusively on the series’ women, and provides some much-needed context to the emotional journeys both Dom and Darlene have been on this season. It’s the first episode that’s...

Here's some of what TV Fanatic is thankful for in 2019 (in no particular order).
Malcolm Jamal Warner's Aj Austin & Minator on The Resident
Aj has come such a long way on The Resident and digging into his background has been such a beautiful experience. Warner brings so much heart to this lovable, arrogant, complex teddy bear of a character.
And yeah, everyone enjoys talking about CoNic, but Minator has been quietly stealing their thunder as this endearing slow-burn ship that makes you giggly. -- Jasmine
Elite
Elite came back on Netflix for a second season that was just as compelling and twisted as the first season. It's one of the more fun binge-watching series that Netflix has to offer.
And those good things include TV shows, well-developed and strong characters, healthy relationships, good plotlines, and more!
Here's some of what TV Fanatic is thankful for in 2019 (in no particular order).

Mr. Robot Season 4 Episode 6
In a show like Mr. Robot, it’s easy to view Elliot Alderson as a hero. And in many ways, he is. After all, he’s battled against the oppressive forces of capitalism, exploitative corporations, and the shadowy elite cabals that dictate how the world works for the majority of its citizens. Next to all those evils, a hacker with a drug addiction and occasionally questionable morals pretty much looks like Superman. But it doesn’t mean that’s truly the case.
“Not Acceptable” is the first Mr. Robot installment in a long time that reminds us that Elliot’s mission can and does involve deeply questionable moral choices, and that his decisions often leave significant collateral damage in their wake.

Mr. Robot Season 4 Episode 4
Happy holidays from Mr. Robot, which seems as unconcerned as ever with actually wrapping up any aspect of its final season’s story. In place of the answers—or at the very least, minimal forward plot progression—we likely expected here, “Not Found” instead offers us a bizarre holiday tale, in which Elliot, Darlene, Dom and Tyrell face down some demons of both the literal and figurative variety on Christmas Eve.
First, some facts. Even though Elliot stole Olivia Cortez’s Cyprus login information, she doesn’t have high enough security clearance to achieve the Alderson siblings’ goal of wiping out Whiterose’s financial holdings. It’s Christmas Eve, and the mysterious Deus Group is set to meet the next day,...

Viewed through a certain lens, Jumanji can be classified as a horror film. A young boy being sucked into a board game, left to fend for himself in the wild for decades? Another young boy turned into a hideous monkey-person? Giant, skittering spiders dripping with poison? A massive, bloodthirsty plant? All the Robin Williams jokes in the world can't erase the fact that the 1995 movie is essentially a nightmarish spin on every parents' "it's just a game" ethos. There's no mistaking the genre of the Halloween-themed episode of Hulu's Into the Dark, though, which takes the scariest elements from Jumanji and runs with them.
Into the Dark is Hulu's anthology series in partnership with Blumhouse, which has steadily churned out an episode of season-appropriate horror since premiering last October. Though it's usually hit-and-miss - I recommend December's "New Year, New You," episode starring Suki Waterhouse and Carly Chaikin, and...

When Mr. Robot debuted in the summer of 2015, none of its individual components were clearly new. The cyberpunk drama’s then-unknown creator, Sam Esmail, readily copped to the influences of paranoid Seventies thrillers like The Parallax View. Late in that first season, the show even played a piano version of the Pixies’ “Where Is My Mind?” as a tip of the cap to Fight Club, from which Esmail liberally borrowed the idea that his title character, played by Christian Slater, was actually an alternate personality of hacker hero Elliot Alderson...

It can be easy to forget quite how big a deal, in its early going, “Mr. Robot” was.
It eventually became, fairly enough, a hallmark for narrative and directorial excess. But the series, about Elliot, a hacker attempting to remake America, had the real-life effect of remaking the USA Network, shifting the cabler conclusively away from its previous model of sunny workplace dramedy. Its broader implications included the launches of executive producer Sam Esmail, with Amazon’s “Homecoming” and USA’s forthcoming “Briarpatch” to his credit, and star Rami Malek. And its conceit, that the world is governed by entities interested in seeding chaos for their own benefit, has seemed more urgent since the show’s 2015 premiere. The near-perfect first season had the right talent and the right timing.
But subsequent seasons’ refusal to consider the world outside Elliot’s head diminished its viewership and reputation. So it is that Season 4, the show’s last,...

Creating shows in this golden age of television has pushed storytelling to new heights, bolstered network recognition with the debut of sole marquee series and driven top-tier talent to limited-event runs. But few of these hundreds of series to unroll over the past half-decade have also redefined an entire network while pumping out prolific content that’s rife with homages to an entire cinematic library, generating hundreds of speculative Reddit offshoots in the process.
So perhaps from a pressure standpoint it was for the best that when the writers’ room fired up for the fourth season of USA’s hacker-centric “Mr. Robot,” creator Sam Esmail wasn’t aware he was entering the show’s final season. As with the titular character’s true identity, that revelation didn’t come until later, when Esmail and other creatives deliberated how much story there was between the third-season reset-ending and the final two...

The USA Network has released a new trailer for the fourth and final season of Mr. Robot. The next season is set during the holidays, but don’t let that fool you… this is a gloomy trailer that’s not meant to bring joy and peace into the world.
I’ve enjoyed the hell out of this series, and with this new trailer teasing an endless war, I’m really curious to see how this story comes to a close. It was also announced that Mr. Robot Season 4 would premiere on Sunday, October 6th at 10/9c.
Here’s the synopsis for the show:

The group successfully pulled off their five/nine hack on multi-national company Evil Corp in the first season, causing a global...

USA Network has finally announced when “Mr. Robot” will return for its final season, and with the release date comes a trailer set to a very unsettling version of the Christmas classic, “Silent Night.”

Sometimes, really bad things happen around Christmastime. So it seems to be the case for Elliot and the many individuals wrapped up in the global chaos of “Mr. Robot.”
The series, which returns for its fourth and final season in early October, finds Elliot (Rami Malek) once again dealing with the ramifications of trying to undo his hacktivist past. Still working with the pesky spectral presence of Mr. Robot (Christian Slater), Elliot’s at the center of a yuletide reversal of fortune that could turn back the clock on the grand, economy-destabilizing project that’s been brewing since the beginning of the series.
Also back to help tell the closing chapters in the story are cast members Portia Doubleday, Carly Chaikin, Bd Wong, Grace Gummer, Martin Wallström, and Michael Cristofer. It’s not a stretch to say that at least a few of these central figures in the series may...

Ryan Murphy asked Tony winner Ben Platt to star in his first Netflix series “The Politician” in summer 2017, after watching the Broadway prodigy perform on stage in “Dear Evan Hansen” that same year.
Murphy and Platt’s meeting pre-dated the headline-dominating college admissions scam by nearly two years, but the dark comedy, which debuts Sept. 27, carries eerily similar themes to the scandal that saw celebrity parents, including Hollywood actresses Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman, cheat their kids’ way into high-profile universities
“It’s like a premonition,” Platt said while chatting to Variety about “The Politician’s” parallels to the college cheating scandal on Tuesday night at a special screening of the season premiere in New York City. “Ryan [Murphy] is always a few steps ahead of the curve so it doesn’t surprise me, but when it was happening, it was crazy. Mr. Robot certainly has been a crazy and interesting journey. I’ve enjoyed this series, and I love the story that it has told! Well, the intriguing story is going to be coming to an end soon. The final season is set to premiere in a few months, and we have a somber new teaser trailer to share with you for it.
In the teaser, Rami Malek’s character Elliot contemplates if all the people he hurt on his journey were worth it to get to where he is now.
Mr. Robot follows Elliot Alderson (Malek), a former cyber-security engineer who became involved in the underground hacker group society, after being recruited by their leader (Slater). The group successfully pulled off their five/nine hack on multi-national company Evil Corp in the first season, causing a global catastrophe and sending the world into a spiral in the second, with season three of Mr.

The first teaser for the fourth and final season of “Mr. Robot” is out, and the series is looking as intense as ever.
The teaser for the USA Network show doesn’t shed much in the way of plot information, but the somber music and lighting certainly fit the series’ bleak tone. An unseen woman questions series protagonist Elliot Alderson (Rami Malek), asking him how many people he has hurt to get what he wants.
Alderson doesn’t answer, but there’s no doubt that many people have suffered over the last three twisty seasons of “Mr. Robot.” Malek plays a vigilante hacker with dissociative identity disorder and a host of other mental illnesses, and his efforts to free the American public from debt spirals into all sorts of chaos. Drug use, corporate rule, economic collapse, and similarly heavy themes are pervasive throughout the series, which has won two Emmys.

Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail unwrapped only one big reveal about the coming final season of his series, which is known for tense action and psychological twists and turns.
“Is anybody here a fan of British television?” he asked a packed Tribeca Talks crowd at the Tribeca Film Festival. He then offered a gift he hopes will keep on giving. “Typically how [British shows] wrap up series, like the British [version of The] Office, you tend to do a Christmas special. So the final season of Mr. Robot is one very long Christmas special that will last about a week over Christmas of 2015,” Esmail said.
The panel, Tribeca Talks: A Farewell to Mr. Robot, saw series stars Rami Malek, Christian Slater and Carly Chaikin joining Esmail in reminiscing about the series, joined by moderator Scott Feinberg.
As to the question of exactly where the series will head, the cagey Esmail would only point to the show’s history,...

“Mr. Robot” creator Sam Esmail has confirmed the fourth and final season of his USA drama will come to an end in a way that will pay homage to British television series.
“You know what they typically do at the end — like [in] the British ‘Office’ — they tend to do a Christmas special. And, so the final season of ‘Mr. Robot’ is one very long Christmas special. It’ll last over about a week over Christmas of 2015,” Esmail said at Tribeca Film Festival’s “A Farewell to “Mr. Robot” conversation on Sunday.
Cast members Rami Malek, Christian Slater and Carly Chaikin reflected on their time on the series, with Malek pointing out how from Day 1 of the series it was Esmail’s vision to “revolutionize the way we looked at television on cable.”
Plot twists and dynamic direction are not the only thing that have made audiences take notice since season...
