While “Hellboy: The Crooked Man” is a relatively low-budget reboot, it remains hard to parse its $20 million price tag. It has the look of YouTube fan film — not to mention the excess fidelity, aping the story beats of Mike Mignola’s eponymous comic to a tee. Mignola’s screenwriting credit is therefore unsurprising, but that director Brian Taylor was at all involved is an astonishing tidbit. One half of the duo behind high-octane films like “Crank” and “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance”, Taylor has made several movies that get by on momentum and gusto. “The Crooked Man,” however, features neither.

Following Ron Perlman and David Harbor — two actors exceptionally suited for the role of Hellboy — actor Jack Kesy plays a more passive incarnation of the paranormal agent. If he quips, he does so subtly, and if he recalls secrets from his past, they don’t affect him very much in the present.

Scream VI (read our review Here) will be receiving its DVD, Blu-ray, 4K Uhd, and 4K steelbook release on July 11th – and after the movie is on physical media, Varèse Sarabande and Craft Recordings will be teaming up to release the 95 minutes of score Brian Tyler and Sven Faulconer composed for the film on CD and vinyl! Infinity Pool Steelbook 4K Uhd from Decal Releasing

Infinity Pool hit home video a mere two months ago with a bare-bones disc featuring the R-rated cut and no 4K option. Hopefully you held out on that one, because Decal Releasing is double dipping with an uncut Steelbook 4K Ultra HD on August 29.

The sci-fi horror film is written and directed by Brandon Cronenberg. Alexander Skarsgård, Mia Goth, and Cleopatra Coleman star with Jalil Lespert, Amanda Brugel, and Thomas Kretschmann.

“Dick Johnson is Dead” won both Best Documentary Feature and Best Director (Kirsten Johnson) at the fifth annual Critics’ Choice Documentary Awards. This Netflix film came into the competition with four bids; it lost the cinematography race to another Netflix title, “My Octopus Teacher,” and thee narration award to “David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet.” “The Way I See It” won for score while “Totally Under Control” took editing. Three films lead the fifth annual Critics’ Choice Documentary Awards with five nominations apiece. “Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution” and “Gunda,” both nabbed nominations for Best Documentary Feature and Best Director as well as three others apiece while “Mr. Soul!” was nominated for Best Documentary Feature and Best First Documentary Feature as well as three more.

Netflix led the way of all distributors with an impressive 31 nominations. In addition to “Crip Camp,” the studio also earned Best Documentary Feature bids forr “Athlete A,” “Dick Johnson Is Dead,” “My Octopus Teacher,” “A Secret Love,” and “The Social Dilemma.” Rounding out the top category nominees are “Belushi” and “The Go-Gos” from Showtime, “Feels Good Man” from Wavelength and PBS Independent, “The Fight” from Magnolia, “The Painter and the Thief” from Neon, and “Time” from Amazon. “Gunda” is Neon’s second nominee and “Mr. Soul!” comes to us from Shoes in the Bed.
