Judging from the marketing of The Tutor, you’d be forgiven for mistaking the film for a contemporary queer update of a film like The Crush (1993). While not exclusively the purview of the 90s, a film like The Crush – in which an underage “sexpot” with a malicious streak ensnares an older man in her web of sexual intrigue – prospered in the era of Erotic Thrillers, Dtv and Vcrs.

Films in which adults are tempted into sexual relationships with minors are considered taboo for mainstream contemporary audiences. This is why the marketing of The Tutor was intriguing: the trailer suggests that rich, privileged teen Jackson (Stranger Things’ Noah Schnapp) unfairly accuses his working class tutor Ethan (Garrett Hedlund) of improper behaviour. This hasn't played at any festivals of elsewhere, and will be playing in theaters at the end of March. The story follows an in-demand tutor for the East Coast elite who, after being assigned an unexpected task at a mansion, finds himself struggling with the obsessions of his student, who threatens to expose his dark secrets - which will also unravel a carefully crafted persona... IFC Films is acquiring U.S. rights to James D’Arcy’s feature directorial debut, “Made In Italy,” starring Liam Neeson and Micheál Richardson.

“Made In Italy” will receive a traditional theatrical release in the U.S. during the summer of 2020. The film is set in Tuscany and follows a bohemian London artist who returns to Italy with his estranged son to make a quick sale of the house they inherited from his late wife. Neither expects to find the once beautiful villa in such a state of disrepair, and the renovations go badly.

The film also stars Lindsay Duncan and Valeria Bilello. It is produced by Pippa Cross and Sam Tipper-Hale for CrossDay Productions in collaboration with Indiana Production S.P.A. The film...
