“Baby Reindeer” costume designer Mekel Bailey scoured thrift shops and his grandmother’s closet to build the costumes for Jessica Gunning’s Martha on Netflix’s Emmy-nominated limited series.
In gathering wardrobe items, a few things about the obsessed woman came to mind. “It was all about the mishaps, the clash, the prints, the tones and the awkwardness,” Bailey says.
Based on Richard Gadd’s one-man play, the series follows Donny Dunn (Gadd), a fictionalized version of the comic, as he tries to transition from barman to comedian while being stalked by Martha (Gunning), a woman who sends him thousands of emails and harasses his family and girlfriend (Nava Mau), growing increasingly unstable and threatening as time goes on.
Bailey prepped by spending a lot of time alone, people-watching. “There’s a lady in my area, and at least once a month, I’ll see her. She sits outside this bus stop,...

Better Lovers — the supergroup featuring former members of The Dillinger Escape Plan and Every Time I Die — have announced their debut full-length album, Highly Irresponsible, out October 25th via SharpTone Records. They also dropped the lead single and video “A White Horse Covered in Blood.”
The vitriolic track takes off at a sprint, with spitfire vocals from Greg Puciato and a barrage of guitar riffs that hit a satisfying sweet spot between thrash metal and hardcore. The second half of the song features a huge breakdown after a lengthy and highly effective musical rest — one that’s long enough for Puciato to smash a mic stand through a wall in slow motion in the accompanying music video.
“Playing and hearing our own music makes us want to run through walls,” said guitarist Jordan Buckley of the Eric Richter-produced video. “So we made a video where, while playing and hearing our own music,...

If things had gone as originally planned, director Chris Smith’s Netflix documentary Sr. might have been called Jr. instead. He initially thought of doing a film about Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr., but the star proposed something different.
“We had a meeting at his company and just sort of threw out the idea of doing a documentary on [Robert Downey Jr.],” Smith recalled during an appearance at Deadline’s Contenders Television: Documentary + Unscripted event. “And very quickly the word came back that he was not interested, but he thought somebody should do a documentary on his dad.”
Smith took him up on the idea. And while the younger Downey plays a big part in the film, the primary focus is on Robert Downey Sr., the underground filmmaker and actor who made satirical and offbeat films like Putney Swope and Chafed Elbows.
“I knew of Robert Downey Sr. but I didn’t...

Better Lovers — a newly formed supergroup featuring current and former members of The Dillinger Escape Plan, Every Time I Die, and Fit for an Autopsy — are introducing themselves with their debut single, “30 Under 13.”
The band is comprised of singer Greg Puciato (ex-Dillinger Escape Plan), guitarist Will Putney (Fit for an Autopsy), and three ex-members of Every Time I Die: guitarist Jordan Buckley, drummer Clayton “Goose” Holyoak, and bassist Stephen Micciche.
The fiery single “30 Under 13” features Puciato in full scream mode during the chaotic verses before delivering a clean vocal for the trippy chorus. At the 2:15 mark, the track goes high-speed hardcore.
“Jordan sent me some already finished instrumental tracks, and they hit me at just the right time,” said Puciato in a press release. “Those tracks woke up a side of me that I thought was fully extinct but was merely evolving and changing. To my complete surprise...

Aside from being one of the very best films of this awards season, the Coen brothers' lovely, melancholic Inside Llewyn Davis also features one of the very best performances from a cat we've ever seen on the big screen.
In honour of the wonder that is Ulysses the Cat, we've picked out eleven more of the movies' greatest felines. We only had one rule: these had to be domestic cats. Sorry Simba, Aslan, Richard Parker et al.
Thomas O'Malley (The AristoCats)
At first glance, Thomas O'Malley comes across as a bit of a douchebag, the self-assured charmer who you wish wasn't hitting on you in a bar (or, in the modern age, a box on the Internet). He's even got his own theme tune full of talk about how he's "duke of the avant-garde", for crying out loud.
Ultimately, though, Thomas proves to be pretty handy in a jam, saving...
