- Actor
- Producer
David Sinclair Bales was born on Christmas Day, 1983, at Andrews Air
Force Base, Maryland. When he was six months old his family moved to
Cheyenne, Wyoming, where his father Philip completed his service as a
dentist in the Air Force. In 1986 the family moved west to Astoria,
Oregon, where Dr. Bales bought a dental practice that he operated for
the next twenty-five years. While his mother Ann taught special
education in the Astoria School District, David and his older sister
Addie grew up in this quiet community at the mouth of the Columbia
River. His first exposure to the world of filmmaking came at the age of
six, when Universal Pictures used his elementary school during
production of the feature film Kindergarten Cop. In addition to acting
as a background player, David was handpicked by his kindergarten
teacher to assist in building one of the sets for the film, as the art
director wished to have a child's touch in the design. David and Addie
would later be pictured alongside their principal in an article about
the film for People Magazine. David became an outstanding student
athlete and Eagle Scout, graduating from Astoria High School in 2002
before moving to Seattle where he studied Drama at the University of
Washington. He gained experience acting, producing, writing, and
directing for the stage before receiving his Bachelor's in 2006. After
working with a number of theatre companies in western Washington, David
co-founded a fringe company in 2008 called Robot Arms Theatre which
gained acclaim in the Seattle underground theatre scene for its unique
style of performance. The company disbanded in early 2010 after staging
David's first full length script called An Apt Description Of Love for
its final production. David moved to Los Angeles in 2011 to pursue a
career as a writer and filmmaker, where he continues to live and work
to this day.
