“Fauda” actor and singer Idan Amedi, who joined the Israeli forces to fight against Hamas in the wake of the Oct. 7 attack and was seriously injured on Monday, has come out of surgery and regained consciousness, Variety has confirmed.

The 35-year-old was airlifted to a hospital on Monday after being wounded by shrapnel while serving as an Idf reservist in the Combat Engineering Corps. He was interviewed shortly before being injured and spoke about the tunnels built by Hamas which his unit was working on. “We found kilometers of tunnels here, weaponry, even special weaponry. We’ve been busy the past two days trying to destroy it,” Amedi told a Channel 12 correspondent. He is still hospitalized and receiving treatment, but is now awake.

Amedi, who was born to Kurdish immigrants and raised in Jerusalem, plays elite Idf soldier Sagi Tzur in the Netflix hit show “Fauda,” which tackles the Israel-Hamas conflict.

“The Lesson,” the Israeli drama series that was named best series at the 2022 Cannes International Series Festival, is set to premiere June 21 on streamer ChaiFlicks.

Created and written by Deakla Keydar, “The Lesson” is a deft socio-political drama revolving around troubled high school civics teacher Amir and Lian, a 17-year-old student in his class.

The series, which first premiered in January 2022, was also named best drama series at the Israeli Television Academy Awards in 2023. Maya Landsmann, who plays Lian, won best lead actress at that same ceremony.

Leib Lev Levin, Alma Zak and Dvir Benedek also star in the six-episode series, which is directed by Eitan Zur. In The Lesson Tensions within Israeli society start to play out in a high school classroom. During a civics class the teacher, Amir Halevi (Doron Ben-David), proposes that the class come up with a topic of discussion. One of the pupils, Lianne Zarhi (Maya Landsman), wants to ban Arabs from the public pool. Amir doesn't react well to this and the situation in the classroom descends into chaos with Lianne leading some of her fellow students in a chant of "Death to Arabs." Amir find himself reported to the school board for badmouthing the Idf. The following day, Amir catches Lianne dancing with a loaded assault rifle in the schoolyard. He loses his rag and uses some intemperate language, comparing Lianne's fascistic views to Nazism. He is caught on camera. Selectively edited footage is posted online and goes viral.

Fauda in its fourth season in a mix of action, political thriller and the (evident) touch of social conflict. Beyond the evident confrontation (this is not a product about politics), this is a very entertaining series that has rhythm and intelligence and has known how to captivate the viewer with its complex plot, it elaborate characters and above all, its frenetic rhythm and elaborate construction in the parallel stories that have known how to reach an audience seeking big thrills.

This is a great success and excellent entertainment. The action scenes are very elaborate.

This season is just as good as the past ones: more of the same, more than one expects have made Fauda a phenomenon worth watching.

Israeli drama The Lesson has won two prizes in this year’s prestigious Canneseries Longform Competition.

Kan 11’s six-parter featuring Fauda’s Doron Ben-David about Amir, a 43-year-old teacher, and Lian, a 17-year-old student, who engage in an emotional conflict, won Best Series and Best Performance for co-lead Maya Landsman. Federation Entertainment boarded the drama several days ago.

Meanwhile, Canada’s Audrey Est Revenue won the Dior Grand Award, Best Music was awarded to Sky Deutschland’s Souls and Belgium’s Hacked took first prize in Short Form Series.

The prestigious prizes were awarded at a swanky event in Cannes tonight, which sees out the Canneseries drama forum and Mip TV.

French Oscar-winning director Xavier De Lestrade’s investigative thriller The Inside Game, Seeds Of Wrath and Danish bio-series The Dreamer – Becoming Karen Blixen are among the 10 new series selected for competition in the upcoming edition of French TV festival Canneseries (April 1-6).

The fifth edition sees the event return its traditional springtime slot coinciding with the MipTV content market (April 4-6), after the festival moved to September in 2021 due to the Covid-pandemic.
