Netflix has brought the curtain down on the Michelle Yeoh crime drama “The Brothers Sun” after one season.

In addition to Oscar-winner Yeoh, “Brothers Sun” also starred Justin Chien, Sam Song Li, Highdee Kuan and Joon Lee. News of the cancellation was first reported by Deadline.
The series had an eight-episode run. Chein played a Taiwanese mobster who heads to Los Angeles area to protect his estranged mother after his father is assassinated in Taipei. The Brothers Sun premiered on Netflix with all eight episodes on Jan. 4, 2024, and is an action comedy-drama about a man named Bruce who learns about his family's gangster history. There is no confirmation of a second season yet, as Netflix has not made a renewal announcement, but the show received decent reviews for its cast, comedy, and balance of family compassion and action. If there is a second season, audiences can expect the main cast to return, and the plot would likely involve more of Mama Sun and Big Sun, Charles accompanying her back to Taipei, and Bruce embracing the darkness of being in a gangster family.

Four years ago, Jenny Yang reached a plateau in her career. She’d achieved many of her goals — she was a successful stand-up comedian, she’d launched her own comedy festival focused on platforming Asian American talent, she’d worked as a staff writer on Busy Tonight — so she sat down to chart something new. Yang decided that what she really wanted to do was become an action comedy star. She trained for a half-marathon and took up kickboxing training. But then a casting director for a new Netflix show about a Taiwanese crime family was scouring the internet during a late-in-the-game search and came across one of her viral stand-up videos. “All they told me was that it was a gang drama and I wouldn’t have to do any accents,” Yang says. “And then they gave me the role and were like, ‘By the way, you will be...

Instead of shunning martial arts as cliché or stereotypical, many Asian creatives have leaned into that audience familiarity to help tell complex stories surrounding their experiences in this country and beyond. Michelle Yeoh has played a role in some of these recent efforts, including Disney+’s “American Born Chinese” and Marvel’s box office smash “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.” Now the “Everything Everywhere All At Once” star and historic Oscar winner is back at it, bringing her Hollywood clout to “The Brothers Sun” on Netflix.

Michelle Yeoh is back! Not that she went anywhere, to paraphrase the Nicolas Cage comedy "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent." Still, we're undeniably in the midst of a renaissance (a Yeohnaissance?) for the Oscar-winning Malaysian superstar, one that arguably started with her role as the steely matriarch of the uber-wealthy Young family in 2018's "Crazy Rich Asians." Her latest project, "The Brothers Sun," once again sees Yeoh playing the determined head of a clan, this time portraying Eileen Sun, the wife of the recently assassinated head of a powerful Taiwanese triad.
The Sun family's connections to organized crime come as a real shock to Eileen's youngest son Bruce (Sam Song Li), who's been living a quiet life with his mother in Los Angeles when his older brother, Charles (Justin Chien), shows up to break the news ... and with a whole lot of dangerous people who want them dead on his tail.

Michelle Yeoh continues to fight for her family. Netflix released the trailer for the new action comedy series The Brothers Sun. The former Jackie Chan co-star is the matriarch of a crime family called “The Jade Dragons” and a new gang has set its sights on cutting the head off of the snake. Her son, Bruce, is in danger as he is now finding out the family he once thought was normal, is actually full of dangerous secrets. The new series was created by Byron Wu & Brad Falchuk.
The official synopsis from Netflix reads,

The Writers Guild of America called a strike after midnight on May 2, and a little more than 12 hours later, picket lines popped up in L.A. and New York outside studios, networks and streamers’ headquarters. A quick survey of the scenes revealed clear (and sometimes hilarious) messages from the front lines thanks to a segment of the population not found at most protests: writers. The signage on display ranged from sarcastic and witty to timely and urgent as writers used the opportunity to promote their demands by relying on their specific set of skills. It didn’t take long for other writers to take note of the words on the oversized pages, either. (Writer, actor and stand-up Jenny Yang even took to Twitter to create a thread of “some of my fave picket signs,” featured below.)

The success of Taiwanese-American basketball player Jeremy Lin is framed by a consideration of its significance to the wider Asian-American community in Franch Chi’s debut short documentary in the face of ingrained institutional racism. The 38 At The Garden refers to the number of points scored by Lin during a head-to-head for the New York Knicks against Kobe Bryant’s LA Lakers at NYC’s Madison Square Garden in 2012.
Although this is a largely straightforward mixture of talking heads and archive footage showing Lin’s rise to fame, the use of animation adds welcome variation and it is powered by contagious enthusiasm, not just from famous Asian-American contributors including comics Hasan Minhaj and Jenny Yang, Lin’s teammates and some Knicks fans.
Lin also had a deep well of enthusiasm for the game, which is just as well given the anti-Asian bias he faced when he was starting out. The stereotypical way Asian-Americans.

Jenny Yang, comedian, writer and actor, is dispelling myths around Msg and “clean eating” with a clever campaign — developed with Ajinomoto, a Japanese multinational food and biotechnology corporation — called #DinnerWithGoop.
The dinner, which was held Sept. 7 at The Gourmandise School in Santa Monica was not attended by Gwyneth Paltrow or any other representatives from her popular wellness platform Goop. Yang extended the invitation in an effort to start a fact-based conversation surrounding “clean eating,” a lifestyle and diet Goop promotes, and how she believes it is ultimately problematic because it propagates the idea that the way many people eat is impure and assigns moral value to food choices.
“Food has been a lifelong passion of mine because it’s so tied with my culture, it’s so tied with identity,” Yang told The Hollywood Reporter Wednesday night. “When I became a comedian and built a following online,...
