Doctor Odyssey just unleashed a massive twist for Avery that can affect the show and a fan theory!
Caution: This article contains Spoilers for Doctor Odyssey Episode 8
Doctor Odyssey fans had expected Season 1 to focus on the love triangle between Max (Joshua Jackson), Avery (Phillipa Soo), and Tristan (Sean Teale). Max and Avery hooked up in the pilot while Tristian had long carried a torch for Avery despite being a noted ladies' man.
What no one expected was that Episode 6 would solve this triangle in a wild way by having them share a threesome. They tried to maintain business as usual afterward, but Max soon revealed he couldn't continue this as he only wanted Avery. Tristian seemed into her but knew she might not feel the same way. He did seem ready to move on with the ship's chef Vivian (Laura Harrier).

Doctor Odyssey went there with the throuple plot twist. Avery (Phillipa Soo) ended up in a threesome with Max (Joshua Jackson) and Tristan (Sean Teale). She enjoyed it so much that she wanted more.
The fall finale revealed that she was pregnant. Of course, everyone is wondering who the daddy is. But that’s the least of this show’s problems. Even when The Odyssey returns in March, this storyline won’t last long. It’s too soon for the characters to go through this.
Why It Won’t Happen
Fans on Reddit brought up some great theories. Most of them believe that the baby could be Max’s. He slept with Avery more than once. The threesome was the first time that Tristan had an intimate moment with Avery, even though he was in love with her.
One fan wrote, “It’s probably a false positive since it’s...

[Warning: The following post contains Major spoilers about Doctor Odyssey‘s midseason finale episode, “Quackers.”] Well, we’re certainly in uncharted waters now. Thursday’s new episode of Doctor Odyssey continued the show’s breakneck pace of bringing us juicy new drama, and this time, there’s a new twist that could change everything for our favorite threesome. On “Quackers,” as the crewmates play host to a bunch of rubber ducky hide-and-seekers — yes, apparently this is a thing — the atmosphere is quite fanciful and even a bit bizarre on the ship. That doesn’t stop there from being some very serious matters at hand, though. First, one of the hosts of the event has a nasty case of Pica and has swallowed so many foreign objects that his innards are corroded. With Tristan (Sean Teale) in quarantine for pink eye, Max (Joshua Jackson) and Avery (Phillipa Soo) work together to perform an emergency resection, which is tough, but not...

Ted Danson is back with a new comedy on Netflix — and this time, he’s going undercover.
Danson stars in A Man on the Inside, which debuted Thursday on the streamer, as Charles Nieuwendyk, a retired college professor who’s a bit aimless after the death of his wife. This week’s premiere opens with a flashback to a de-aged Danson (!) as Charles, who gives a toast at his wedding and recalls that, though he and his wife are complete opposites, he still decided that “this is the person I want to grow old with.” But now he’s old and alone,...

Don Johnson is opening up about Doctor Odyssey’s “dream” fan theory and if it’s true!
It’s been 40 years since Don Johnson exploded to stardom playing Sonny Crockett in the groundbreaking NBC hit Miami Vice. Johnson became one of the hottest actors on television in the cop drama with his terrific style and made the show iconic.

Johnson is now enjoying a new act in his life, starring in the new ABC series Doctor Odyssey. He plays Captain Robert Massey, the head of the cruise ship who puts a good face on the various weekly antics. He has had some good banter with the guests, including one played by country music star Shania Twain.

[Warning: The following post contains spoilers about Doctor Odyssey‘s latest episode, Episode 7, “Oh, Daddy!”] Ever since the maiden voyage of Doctor Odyssey this fall, Don Johnson‘s Captain Robert Massey has been everyone’s cheerful guide to the show’s joyous — and yes, sometimes injury- and illness-prone — escape on the titular ship. Never has the authentic goodness of his character been clearer than in Thursday (November 14) night’s episode, “Oh, Daddy!” Yes, for Gay Week, the Odyssey welcomes a bevy of out and proud guests who the crewmembers are happy to mingle and flirt with. One of those passengers is Massey’s own brother Craig, portrayed by John Stamos. Though the captain is expecting to meet just one boyfriend of Craig, he brings along two striking beaus — effectively echoing the steamy throuple situation that’s unfolding with the medics after Max (Joshua Jackson), Avery (Phillipa Soo), and Tristan (Sean Teale) decided to give into that all that sexual tension ...

Note: This story contains spoilers for the Nov. 14 episode of “Doctor Odyssey”
Don Johnson’s character on “Doctor Odyssey” is “a more modern kind of captain,” the actor told TheWrap ahead of Thursday night’s episode “Gay Week” episode, which means he’s unfazed when his once out-of-control younger brother (guest star John Stamos) reveals he’s part of a throuple.
“It’s a choice to be accepting and loving,” Johnson said on a Zoom call Thursday morning. “And I sort of took the adjustment that I’ve been through a lot with him already, in terms of his alcoholism and so on. And I know he’s gay, and this is a little bit surprising, but I am the brother who has no judgment.”
Johnson also answered the question of whether he knows about last week’s threesome with Avery (Phillipa Soo), Max (Josh Jackson) and Tristan (Sean Teale). “The captain knows everything.

[This story contains spoilers from the seventh episode of Doctor Odyssey, “Oh, Daddy!”]
It was “Gay Week” on Doctor Odyssey, and the Ryan Murphy-produced series addressed the (almost) throuple in the room.
At the end of last week’s episode, the show’s core trio of Max (Joshua Jackson), Avery (Phillipa Soo) and Tristan (Sean Teale) decided to make their relationship a little less platonic. After declaring that a threesome was on each of the character’s bucket lists, Avery tells her two potential suitors she’d be open to one, which forces Tristan into action. Max eventually joins the group, in a fade-to-black moment.

Of course, we need to talk about that shocking ending to episode 6. This love triangle isn’t really a love triangle after all. It’s more like a throuple, with Avery making it clear in the promo for episode 7 that while they said it would be a one-time thing, she doesn’t really want that to be the case.
With the way both men feel about her, it wouldn’t be surprising if they both said yes to the idea. However, will their feelings for Avery cause problems between the men? Or will they end up building a budding friendship between them?

Doctor Odyssey is taking its first break for its first season on ABC. When will it set sail again?
One of ABC's flashiest new shows of the 2024 season, Doctor Odyssey, is a throwback to 1970s TV shows like The Love Boat that told anthology stories involving huge guest star actors. That's no surprise, given it comes from superstar producer Ryan Murphy, who draws on his connections for some fun drama. The main focus is on the titular luxury cruise ship that takes passengers on amazing week-long trips.
The pilot has nurses Avery Morgan (Phillipa Soo) and Tristian Silva (Sean Teale), who are surprised to get a new boss, Dr. Max Bankman (Joshua Jackson). Once a top-notch surgeon, Max ended up being "Patient Zero" for the Covid-19 pandemic, which nearly killed him. He's thus decided to cut back to what he figures is going to be an easy job.

You’ve still got time to squeeze in some scary shows before Halloween: We recommend these limited series, including AMC’s “The Terror,” and the original “Salem’s Lot” from 1979, that can easily be binged in a weekend or just a day.
The series on our list are all under 10 episodes and available to stream right now, so grab your big bucket of popcorn, get cozy on the couch and spend some time with these vampires, ghosts, witches and some really haunted real estate.
“The Terror” (AMC) The Terror
Based on the real-life doomed arctic expedition of Captain Sir John Franklin (played here by Ciarán Hinds): We see the men aboard two ships, one of which is unwisely named the Hms Terror, struggle as they slowly try to carve a path through the ice. But there’s something (or things) much more sinister plaguing the journey. Jared Harris and Tobias Menzies costar.

As we get closer to Halloween, a lot of TV shows include scary-themed episodes. Well, Doctor Odyssey is opting for just that with an episode aptly titled “Halloween Week.”
Captain Massey isn’t quite happy with the situation. He makes a note that this is the one week of the year that the ship becomes a clown car, and it’s because of everyone coming along in costumes. Well, even the staff will get involved, as Max opts to dress up as Poseidon.
A zombie virus breaks out in Doctor Odyssey season 1, episode 5
Of course, things have to take a turn with some sort of medical drama. In this case, it’s a zombie virus. Massey is happy dealing with one or two zombies, but not a ship full of them. It’s almost like this isn’t his first rodeo.
The problem is that this is some sort of contagion.

Note: This story contains spoilers from “Doctor Odyssey” Episode 4.
“Doctor Odyssey” just got a hot new chef, one that will surely bring testy waters for the nurses aboard.
Episode 4, titled “Wellness Week,” followed as Dr. Max Bankman (Joshua Jackson) and his team dealt with shenanigans from the alternative medicine community, who boarded the ship for the week led by guest stars Amy Sedaris, Margaret Cho and Kate Berlant. The episode also introduced chef Vivian Montgomery (Laura Harrier), a reality TV show winner who was working for Sedaris’ character and quickly sparked a connection with nurse Tristan Silva (Sean Teale).
“Vivian is a wonderful character and she’s joined us for the foreseeable future — I don’t know how long. I’m not allowed to say — but it’s lovely,” Teale told TheWrap of his character’s new love interest. “There’s something for Tristan’s logical and loving mind to pursue.

They say two’s company and three’s a crowd — but does the age-old adage apply in international waters?
ABC’s Doctor Odyssey is zeroing in on the complicated dynamics among its crew. Ryan Murphy has a television empire for a reason: The man knows how to make juicy, watchable TV. And for “Doctor Odyssey” (a mashup of “The Love Boat” and “Grey’s Anatomy” strained through Murphy’s singular aesthetic), he knew that there was one aspect of cruise ship travel that simply could not be faked on a soundstage.
The pool had to be real.
“In our first meeting, Ryan had said, ‘I want this built outside. I want water slides, a jacuzzi, a pool, all working. And it’s really important for me to have it outside, so you can see the stars and see the sky and see it’s all real,'” production designer Jamie Walker McCall told IndieWire.
The task was daunting beyond the usual demands of crafting an elaborate set for a weekly network series. As McCall pointed out, “Normally in television, we don’t build things...

Did Singles Week leave you itching for more themed cruises on ABC’s Doctor Odyssey? Well, buckle up for the over-the-top affair that is Plastic Surgery Week.
But wait, plastic surgery at sea? How do they even think of this? Joshua Jackson, who stars as Dr. Max, tells TVLine that while some of the Doctor Odyssey cruises “may seem outlandish,” every themed week is based on actual cruise culture! So while the entire premise of Max’s life on The Odyssey might (might!) be a fever dream, at least the weekly excursions are rooted in reality.

Ryan Murphy’s latest network offering, Doctor Odyssey, brings viewers into the well-loved world of medical professionals through a unique lens, as this medical team works and lives on a cruise ship.
The ABC medical drama — created by Murphy, Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken — stars Joshua Jackson as Max, luxury cruise ship The Odyssey’s newest and seemingly overqualified doctor. Max joins the cruise’s two long-time, skeptical nurses on the medical team, Avery (Phillipa Soo) and Tristan (Sean Teale).
When Doctor Odyssey was first announced, the premise of American Horror Story mastermind Murphy’s next series was largely kept under wraps. Would there be a twist in store? Would the cruise ship be not what it seems? Not until the trailer dropped last month did viewers get a synopsis and first look, and begin to understand what the prolific showrunner really had in store. Exclusive: Doctor Odyssey‘s maiden voyage seems to be going swimmingly.
Ryan Murphy’s latest procedural set sail on ABC last week and, so far, the premiere episode has tallied 13.6M cross-platform viewers in its first week, Disney says. That’s an impressive 230% increase over the episode’s live + same-day audience of 4.13M.
This is a monster start for Doctor Odyssey. While most broadcast series grow their audiences quite significantly in the week after they air, once episodes become available on streaming, it is fairly rare for an episode to average 10M viewers in that time frame — let alone blow right past it.
Within three days of viewing, the cruise ship drama had already delivered 7.59M viewers, making it ABC’s best drama premiere in four years, according to Disney. And after its first full day on Hulu, it was No. 1 on the streamer’s Top 15 Today list, and it has remained there since.

“Welcome aboard The Odyssey.”
On Wednesday, Ryan Murphy, Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken asked audiences to investigate the macabre with their FX horror series, “Grotesquerie.” Shifting gears towards the more pleasant side of humanity, the same series creators premiered a new medical drama the following night called “Doctor Odyssey.” Starring Joshua Jackson as Dr. Max Bankman, his Yale-educated doctor is tasked with handling emergency medical cases aboard a luxury cruise ship.
In the opening few minutes of the show’s premiere, Dr. Bankman is introduced getting dressed for his first day of work to the tune of Smokey Robinson’s “Cruisin’.” Taking on a new job can often be an intimidating endeavor, but this doctor likes to wear Hawaiian shirts, and you just know he’s easygoing. Post-covid, he traverses the next phase of his life by boarding The Odyssey, a beautifully designed and cultured cruise liner filled with honeymooners and vacationing retirees.

Welcome aboard the Odyssey!
We’ve got Joshua Jackson, as charming as ever, Don Johnson in all his dapper glory, and a very intriguing twist on the standard medical drama.
Doctor Odyssey has a little something for everyone!
(Disney/Tina Thorpe)
At this point in his career, Joshua Jackson has played every role. Lately, it has felt like he’s been more evil than not, but this series gives him a chance to play a solid guy who’s devoted his life to helping.
Max Bankman is not only an accomplished doctor but also a man looking to make a change.
He comes on board the Odyssey as the new lead doctor and settles in quickly when he has a flurry of cases to contend with on his first day.
The series wastes little time getting into the action with various medical mishaps that could happen on a cruise ship or at any other time.

ABC’s Doctor Odyssey is making waves — but did it deliver the “big deck energy” it promised?
The modern-day Love Boat, which debuted on Thursday, stars Joshua Jackson as Max Bankman, the new onboard doctor of The Odyssey, a cruise ship helmed by Captain Massey (played by Miami Vice’s Don Johnson). But “Dr. Max” is no normal healthcare provider, he’s also a hottie humanitarian whose exceptional resume includes experience with the Peace Corps and the United Nations. (Oh, he was also patient zero during the Covid pandemic? The man is as remarkable as they come!)

Note: This story contains spoilers from the “Doctor Odyssey” series premiere.
“Doctor Odyssey” is the last in a wave of Ryan Murphy-produced dramas to premiere this fall — and it’s, by design, the most fun.
After the debuts of true crime dramas “American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez” and “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” and the FX serial killer drama “Grotesquerie,” the super-producer launched the breezy medical procedural starring Joshua Jackson Thursday on ABC. Equal parts “9-1-1” and “The Love Boat,” the show follows Dr. Max Bankman as he joins the crew of a luxurious cruise called the Odyssey as its on-board doctor, working alongside nurse Avery Morgan (Phillipa Soo), nurse Tristan Silva (Sean Teale) and Captain Robert Massey (Don Johnson).
As Jackson tells it, Murphy wanted to create a “beautifully absurd” series to serve as a glossy exit from the Covid era — a chance for both...

Are you ready for a new medical drama? What about one that promises to bring the same energy as the likes of 911? Well, ABC has your back with Doctor Odyssey.
The new medical drama has a rather unique look to it. It’s on board a luxury cruise ship, and we follow the new doctor on board, Max Bankman played by Joshua Jackson. This introduces us to the world of cruise ship emergencies.
Meet the characters in the Doctor Odyssey series premiere
Like so many pilot episodes, this is one that introduces us to the concept and the cast. It will likely be a little standard, but keep in mind that this episode was written to impress the bosses at ABC. The second episode is for us, so stick with it!
Ryan Murphy is sure to bring the drama and intense calls, though. He and his team haven’t steered us wrong with the 911 shows,...

As TV fanatics gear up for another action-packed fall season, we’re geeking out about all the shows coming to our screens — both returning and new.
Doctor Odyssey is an interesting twist on the standard medical drama geared up to entertain today’s eclectic TV audience with a new premise.
While we’ve had plenty of medical mysteries over the years, Doctor Odyssey will be the story of a second-chance doctor solving medical cases aboard a luxury cruise boat.
(Disney/Tina Thorpe)
Is that unique, or is it taking an already-done trope and trying to give it a new wig?
Doctor Odyssey: Knock-Off or Unique Premise?
News of Doctor Odyssey’s creation has been tight-lipped leading up to its ABC premiere on Thursdays at 9/8C starting September 26.
Unlike other shows, like High Potential, which aired promos months ahead of their releases, Doctor Odyssey kept its secrets tight until just a month ago.

It's become something of a Ryan Murphy fall on the small screen. The prolific producer who's brought us such generation-defining hits as Popular, Nip/Tuck, Glee, and American Horror Story has debuted quite a bit of new content this fall on Netflix and beyond.
First up, American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez made its premiere on FX and Hulu on Sept. 17, which led right into the Sept. 19 premiere of Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story on Netflix. Since they arrived, both shows have been generating headlines, with Monsters rising to the peak of Netflix's most popular shows ranking and creating a lot of conversation online.
Next on Murphy's continued domination of television this season, two high-profile shows arrive on the same exact week. The brand-new horror series Grotesquerie will send a chill down your spine the day before the new procedural drama Doctor Odyssey sets sail. But where can...
