There’s a scene in “The Order,” a riveting and explosive docudrama about the dawn of the modern American white-supremacist movement in the 1980s, that creeps you out in a very eye-opening way. Two leaders of the movement are meeting on an isolated country road in Idaho. One of them, Richard Butler (Victor Slezak), is the white nationalist who founded the Aryan Nations, the neo-Nazi cult that has its compound nearby. He’s a racist extremist, but he has the demeanor of a courtly preacher, and he’s consciously political about the growth of his movement.
The other man, Bob Matthews (Nicholas Hoult), is a former follower of Butler’s who has split off from him, all because he thinks the Aryan Nations movement isn’t extreme enough. Matthews wants an armed uprising now, and the insurrectionary band of ruffians he leads, called the Order (he named them after the...

The Boys Pokes Fun At the Marvel Cinematic Universe
During an event at Vought International, The Deep lays out what films and series to expect in the Vcu (Vought Cinematic Universe) Timeline in "phases 7 through 19."
Fans cheered as the black screen presented every single movie title with its own logos and how they are connected and should be watched in chronological order. Sound familiar?
Considering that The Boys is filled with superhero spoofs from Marvel and DC, this comes as no surprise. If anything, the timeline photo was intentional to make the episode even funnier than it already is.

This article contains spoilers for The Boys season 4 episodes 1, 2, and 3.
Through its first three seasons, The Boys has been no stranger to the art of the major celebrity cameo. In season 3 alone, Amazon Prime Video‘s superhero satire fit in more than a half dozen famous faces in one 40-second clip as Patton Oswalt, Rose Byrne, Kumail Nanjiani, and more re-enact Gal Gadot’s ill-advised “Imagine” routine.
Within the first three episodes of season 4, however, The Boys well and truly outdoes itself with two big guest stars – one of whom never actually appears onscreen. Allow us, and The Boys‘ showrunner Eric Kripke, to explain.
The Boys season 4 episode 2 “Life Among the Septics” opens with a scene from A-Train’s very shitty biopic. In a situation that in no way resembles his actual origin story, Reggie Franklin a.k.a. A-Train (Jessie T. Usher) is a drug-runner living in an urban...

On Friday, four gunmen killed more than 130 people in Crocus City Hall in Moscow, Russia. Over 100 more people are hospitalized. The men, who are citizens of Tajikistan, were taken into custody. Following the attack, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the men had ties to the radical Islamic terrorist group Isis.
The attack is said to be the worst terror attack in 20 years and the deadliest Isis attack in Europe. Video footage from the men’s bodycams has been released. Isis also released an alleged photo of the four men wearing masks and posing in front of their flag.
However, Putin is also shifting the blame onto Ukraine despite no evidence of its involvement.
In a statement on Saturday, Putin claimed the four gunmen were “traveling toward Ukraine” where they would receive help to cross the border.

Six months ago, $17.2 million in gold bars and cash disappeared from a warehouse at Toronto Pearson International Airport. While the case remains a mystery, a new lawsuit has given a glimpse of information about the robbery.
Peel Regional Police, responsible for the airport, announced in April that a container with valuable goods that had been unloaded from a plane and placed in a warehouse was gone. No other information was offered.
Brink’s, the armored car company that was hired to move the cash and gold from Switzerland to Canada, along with two of its subsidiaries, has filed a lawsuit against Air Canada, which transported and stored the container.
In the statement of claim filed to the Federal Court of Canada, Brink’s said the cash and gold were separate shipments but had traveled together. Brink’s, which was responsible for the shipments, is contractually obligated to cover any losses.

This article contains spoilers for Gen V season 1.
The first season of The Boys spinoff Gen V is coming to a close this week, and it seems like we’re in for a wild ride as the young supes of God U struggle to decide how to move forward after discovering the true nature of The Woods and its experiments.
With Dean Shetty (Shelley Conn) now dead at Cate’s (Maddie Phillips) behest, the threat of the virus seems to be quelled for now, but that doesn’t mean that Cate’s thirst for vengeance has. In the season finale preview, Cate and Sam (Asa Germann) band together to release the people being held in The Woods and seek justice for the atrocities committed against the young supes of God U. Their friends, however, don’t seem too thrilled by the gleam of violence in their eyes as the campus descends into chaos.

This article contains spoilers through episode 6 of Gen V
The penultimate episode of Gen V’s first season is poised to be an intense one as Marie, Andre (Chance Perdomo), Cate (Maddie Phillips), Emma (Lizze Broadway), and Sam (Asa Germann) work to uncover Dean Shetty’s (Shelley Conn) plans for The Woods and how they connect to Sam and his brother Luke’s (Patrick Schwarzenegger) abilities.
Episode 7 will feature the return of Congresswoman and Vice Presidential candidate Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit), who grew up in Red River before being adopted by Vought’s former CEO Stan Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito). Even though Neuman is moving up in the world, and has kept her supe abilities generally under wraps as far as the general public is concerned, she seems to still have a connection with Marie, who also grew up at Red River. It’s likely that Neuman is Marie’s benefactor,...

This post contains spoilers for episode 6 of "Gen V," "Jumanji."
Supes have never been perfect in the world of "The Boys," and "Gen V" illustrates this further by zeroing in on the broken, messy lives of vulnerable teen Supes trapped under Vought's thumb. While "The Boys" illustrates the extremes of Supe megalomania, along with the shades of grey that exist within such power structures, "Gen V" paints its young Supes as innately human, in spite of their powers.
The series' focal point, Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair) is a prime example of a young girl forced to make tough decisions to shield herself from further harm, as Marie's trauma only fuels her need to prove herself, and this path is littered with unsavory choices that are often immoral in nature. This does not make Marie or the other kids antiheroes — at least, not yet — as they're grappling with issues that make...

After the revelation made about Cate on Gen V Season 1 Episode 5, everything changed.
The story finally made sense and didn't feel as disjointed anymore.
On Gen V Season 1 Episode 6, the show took the main characters -- and Dustin -- on an emotional journey as they confronted some of the worst moments in their lives.
Somehow, Marie, Andre, Jordan, and Dustin found themselves inside Cate's mind, and a lot went down there.
First was the cameo by Soldier Boy that everyone had been waiting for, and I'm not everyone.
Soldier Boy was in like one season of The Boys, so I wasn't excited.
I could have also done without that scene based on how he was introduced.
Gen V and The Boys are known for pushing boundaries on what can be shown on TV, and we've always loved them for that, but is there a point where a line must be drawn?...

Since the series premiere, something felt off about Gen V, and it was the fact that there were some things that the writers were trying to hide actively.
It didn't make for a powerful story, and getting invested in it was not the easiest thing, but luckily for them, the characters were likable.
Gen V Season 1 Episode 5 was a turning point for the show where the major secret was revealed, and everything fell into place, suddenly making the story the focal point instead of the characters.
Luke's suicide didn't make much sense. The Woods was the stuff for legends that we got little sneak peeks into but weren't entirely invested in.
It continued being a complex affair when Marie would blackout and wake up in a new environment without knowing how she got there. It was interesting, but it got old quickly because there are only so many penises you can explode for shock value.

“Gen V” executive producer Eric Kripke said the explosive death of character Luke “Golden Boy” Riordan (Patrick Schwarzenegger) was a fixed plot within the “Gen V” that never changed during the writers’ creative ideation.

“Look, just to pull back the curtain, it’s just good pilot s–t. Your job in a pilot is to blow people’s minds so they want to keep watching,” Kripke told TheWrap on Thursday in a paired interview with the series’ showrunner Michele Fazekas.
“And it’s like undeniable proof that something is really wrong here,” Fazekas added.
As Fazekas put it, there is something very wrong at Godolkin University, which viewers learn in the first episode of the series “God U.” Hidden beneath the campus and past the corridors where invisible, nude Supes walk the halls, is a dark laboratory called “The Woods.

Seemingly, having a bunch of phony, deplorable supers posing as Earth’s greatest heroes was not edgy enough for the taste of contemporary audiences and the makers over at Amazon Studios. Therefore, after some soul searching, The Boys universe has found the perfect subject matter to go with its trademark abundance of gore, violence, unaccountability, and irreverence with the release of the latest live-action spin-off series Gen V—hormonal college grads with superpowers.

The influx of superhero-oriented content in pop culture media, especially some of the mediocre ones, has definitely contributed to the ever-increasing popularity of Amazon Prime’s edgy, satirical take on superhero media, The Boys. While poking fun at other franchises by making tongue-in-cheek references, individual performances from the likes of Antony Starr, Karl Urban, and Jack Quaid, hilarious self-awareness, and abundant use of sensationalism with sex and gore might have worked wonders for the series’ reception, to make the franchise overstay its welcome, franchise biz was always needed. Perhaps it was the reason why the makers decided to release a gorier animated series called The Boys Presents: Diabolical last year. And for 2023, they have expanded the canvas further and come up with a live-action spin-off called Gen V. It’s kind of ironic how gradually the franchise is becoming the very thing it used to satirize.

There are two kinds of evil people in Gen V.
The first we're well aware of. They are the supes who would use their powers to abuse the public instead of helping them, and the second is the parents who experimented on their kids.
Everyone who developed powers didn't do so by accident because someone had to have given them Compound V, and for most of these supes, it was their parents.
Gen V Season 1 Episode 3 introduced the parents of most of the characters from God U, who we had never met before, and it became clear why they all were so competitive with one another.
With someone like Emma, it was clear earlier that there was a story worth exploring concerning her family, and just like we'd suspected, the story was not fun.
Emma's mom: How's your eating? You are on your own now. You need to be careful about your calorie intake.

Throughout the course of three seasons, it has been firmly established that the TV series adaptation of Garth Ennis’ cynical take on the superhero genre, The Boys, is insultingly antithetical to the high ideals the said genre tries to preach. In its existing lore, there are power-crazed, murderous superheroes out and about, taking the reins of a society that worships a psychotic, perverted, fascist, megalomaniac superhero leader. Controlling superhero affairs is a centralized giant conglomerate that controls government and media, thereby manipulating people’s perceptions at every single moment and snuffing out dissent with wanton violence. In short, their world totally mimics that of our own, with a few evil, superpowered individuals acting as catalysts.

In This Moment have unveiled the latest single from their upcoming album, Godmode, and it’s a cover of the Björk classic “Army of Me.”
While In This Moment’s version of the song maintains the tempo of the original, the band adds a metal element to the song, with heavy guitars and singer Maria Brink’s background screams complementing her melodic main vocal track.
Björk’s original version appeared on her acclaimed 1995 album Post, making a lasting impact on Brink. “I was a teenager when I first got into Björk,” stated the In This Moment vocalist. “I was mesmerized by her. She has a really inspiring energy to a lot of her stuff, an enlightening feeling. She’s just so innovative and groundbreaking and inspiring and magical.”
Guitarist Chris Howorth added, “Maria played me three different Björk songs to see which I thought would be the best. This was the one.

In This Moment have unveiled “Godmode” — the title track from the Los Angeles alt-metal band’s forthcoming album arriving October 27th.
The song is one of the most diverse musical offerings from Itm to date. Opening with an electronic pulse, the band go full on electro-industrial for the first half of the track, with the chorus taking a more metal-based direction. Maria Brink’s vocals follow suit, shedding a mask of glitchy distortion before cutting clean through the mix.
“The lyrics came from feeling powerful and tribal and entrancing,” Brink commented in a press statement. “The fact that [guitarist] Chris [Howorth] gets me so much that I can literally send him a voicemail and he sends it back to me in music form shows how in tune we are. It’s been a long time since I screamed on an entire verse for a song. I wanted to release a bunch of stuff and it felt visceral.

Warning: contains spoilers for The Gold Finale
At the beginning of each episode, The Gold announced itself as a mix of fact and fiction with the disclaimer: “The following is inspired by real events. Some characters or elements have been created or changed for dramatic purposes.” That meant while several of its characters had the real names of figures associated with the Brink’s-Mat Robbery, including Kenneth Noye, Micky McAvoy, John Palmer and Dci Brian Boyce, some were created for the series.
Money launderer Edwin Cooper is one of the invented names, for a character likely inspired by real-life solicitor Michael Relton, who was sentenced to 12 years for his part in washing the proceeds of the 1983 robbery. Detective Nikki Jennings is another invention, a composite character inspired by several of the female police officers who worked on the Brink’s-Mat investigation.
Two other characters appear under what seem to be invented names,...

Twenty-five years ago, Liz Garbus pulled out her Cover Girl compact at the Oscars just before the winner of best documentary was announced. The Manhattan-raised filmmaker didn’t think her 1998 doc, The Farm: Angola, USA, which she co-directed with Jonathan Stack, would win, but wanted to be prepared. The caked powder spilled all over her gown. “As soon as they did not call us, I thought, ‘Phew, I don’t need to go up there with powder all over my dress,'” she says of the fleeting moment when losing felt like a blessing. “And then being like, ‘Wait, no,'” she recalls of the disappointment settling in.
Netflix vp original documentary features and series Adam Del Deo — then just an aspiring doc producer — kept close track of Garbus’ prolific career after seeing The Farm at the Sundance Film Festival. He was blown away by her deep curiosity and ability...

IndieWire turns 25 this year. To mark the occasion, we’re running a series of essays about the future of everything we cover.
For more than four decades, “Star Wars” has created a dazzling universe filled with iconic characters and stunning imagery — yet each story starts with a simple scroll. The onscreen exposition stretches out into the stars, and for a moment, it feels endless, as though you’ll simply keep reading for two hours rather than embarking on an interstellar adventure.
That’s how it felt last December, when Disney spokespeople made announcement after announcement during a four-hour presentation to investors, many of which focused on the further expansion of George Lucas’ blockbuster film franchise via Disney+. A new season of “The Mandalorian,” the debut Disney+ original series that became an instant sensation in November 2019, was given the go-ahead, along with a spinoff, the long-anticipated “Obi-Wan Kenobi” series, two animated shows,...
