Matheus Mello is a producer based between Spain and Brazil, known for exploring themes of identity, migration, and decolonization. Born in Brazil and having lived across multiple countries, Mello has developed a global perspective on storytelling and international co-productions.
Collaborations include films selected and awarded at major international festivals such as IDFA, the International Film Festival Rotterdam, Raindance, Zinebi, and the Guanajuato International Film Festival. Notable projects include Soy (2017), which won the Special Jury Award at IDFA; Kalunga (2019), awarded at the São Paulo International Short Film Festival; and Sans Sommeil Loin de Chez Soi (2022), which received Best Experimental Short Film at the Tirana International Film Festival.
With a BA in International Relations and an MA in Film Producing from the Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión (EICTV) in Cuba, Mello began a career focused on documentary and experimental cinema before expanding into fiction and immersive experiences. In addition to producing, Mello has collaborated on workshops for emerging talents with renowned filmmakers such as Lucrecia Martel, Pedro Costa, and Werner Herzog.
An alumnus of the Sundance Institute, Realness Institute Creative Producer Indaba/EAVE, and Ji.hlava Emerging Producers, Mello works across Latin America, Africa, and Europe, fostering innovative storytelling and equitable co-productions.
