High School will not be returning for a second season. Amazon Freevee has cancelled the coming-of-age drama series. The series, created by Clea DuVall, premiered on the streaming service in October 2022.

Inspired by the High School memoir by Tegan and Sara Quin, the drama series takes place in the 1990s and stars TikTok creators Railey and Seazynn Gilliland. Told against a backdrop of grunge and rave culture, the series weaves between parallel and discordant memories of twin sisters growing up down the hall from one another.

Cobie Smulders and Kyle Bornheimer guested as the twins' parents. The other cast members include Olivia Rouyre, Amanda Fix, Brianne Tju, Geena Meszaros, Cj Valleroy, and Nate Corddry.

There will be no second season for High School. Amazon Freevee has canceled the coming-of-age drama based on Tegan and Sara Quin’s bestselling memoir after one season, Deadline has confirmed.

The cancellation is not a big surprise. The series’ last aired its first and only 8-episode season in October 2022.

Produced by Amazon Studios and Plan B Entertainment, High School is a story about finding your own identity—a journey made even more complicated when you have a twin whose own struggle and self-discovery so closely mimic your own. High School is coming to Amazon Freevee next month, and the streaming service has released a trailer and new key art teasing the new comedy-drama which is based on the life of Tegan and Sara Quinn. Amazon Freevee has released the first teaser trailer of “High School,” set to premiere Oct. 14 on the streamer.

Based on the 2019 memoir of the same name by indie pop duo Tegan and Sara Quin, the eight-episode drama series revolves around the memories of the twin sisters while growing up in the ’90s and searching for their own identities. “High School” stars TikTok creators Railey and Seazynn Gilliland, along with Esther McGregor, Olivia Rouyre, Amanda Fix, Brianne Tju, Geena Meszaros, Cj Valleroy, Nate Corddry and special guests stars Cobie Smulders and Kyle Bornheimer.

The series is executive produced by Clea DuVall, Tegan and Sara Quin, Laura Kittrell and Plan B’s Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Carina Sposato. DuVall and Kittrell also serve as co-showrunners and co-writers, with DuVall directing several episodes. Amazon Studios and Plan B Entertainment produce.
