Ruixi Gao aka Royce Gao, is a director, producer, and cinematographer. A Shanghai native based in LA, after receiving her bachelor's degree in Directing from Shanghai University, she moved to Los Angeles and pursued a master's degree. As a female Asian American filmmaker, her "minority' identity never limits her. She directed, shot, and produced projects that garnered numerous accolades in the past years. She specializes in films that explore humanity, and her years of drawing experience laid a solid foundation for picture composition. "Under the Pieces", a film she wrote, directed, and DPed was selected into Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner; it also received the "Best Short Film" at the LA Short Awards and New York Film Awards. Her directorial piece "Call Me by My Name" portrays a female minority's struggle with self-identity was selected in HBO Visionaries Short Film Competition; the film was also very well received at the Dances with Films Festival premiere as many resonated with the journey the lead went through.
Her documentary project "Poetry and Truth" won Chinese American Film Festival Best Documentary. On the commercial side, she has worked with brands like TikTok, Adidas, JD., and Xiaohongshu. Her commercial project"Hirect" won the Telly Award and she's been serving as a judge for them since. In 2023, she was selected to collaborate on the 41st Hong Kong Film Awards as Photographer.
