The Catholics have so much to be embarrassed about these days, so it's no wonder they're particularly sensitive to anything that shows them in a ridiculous light. This movie was just plain funny. When your in a position of public embarrassment, what else can you do but laugh?
I thought Alan Rickman's and Linda Fiorentino's portrayals of their characters were great. The other characters made a good supporting cast, as well.
The only thing I really didn't like about it was the character of God at the end. It was stretching it a little too much, but that could be because I was expecting something closer to George Burns' depiction of God in his movie of years ago.
