Actor Beau Bridges is being honored in a place of special significance to his family.

The star of The Fabulous Baker Boys, The Descendants, Norma Rae, and more than 200 other films and television series received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Sonoma International Film Festival on Friday. His late father, actor Lloyd Bridges, traced his roots to the town in California’s wine country.

“I can really feel my dad, Lloyd’s spirit here with me in Sonoma, because this is where he was raised,” Bridges tells Deadline. “He was born in San Leandro and raised in Sonoma on Spain Street. He was an altar boy at the St. Francis Church, and then he moved to Petaluma, went to Petaluma High School. So, this is his territory, and to have this acknowledgement here in the seat of our family, so to speak, is really special to me.”

The champagne may be flowing at the kickoff for the 27th Annual Sonoma International Film Festival – for more reasons than one.

This year’s event in California’s wine country will open with the U.S. premiere of Widow Clicquot, directed by Thomas Napper, a narrative feature about the Grande Dame of Champagne. Actress Haley Bennett stars in the titular role of Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin Clicquot, “who against all odds advanced her late husband’s techniques to create the recipe for modern-day champagne.”

Siff, running from March 20-24, will showcase 43 narrative features, 16 documentary features, and 48 short films representing more than 25 countries, according to a release.

As 2021 mercifully winds down, the Criterion Channel have a (November) lineup that marks one of their most diverse selections in some time—films by the new masters Ryusuke Hamaguchi and Garrett Bradley, Dan Sallitt’s Fourteen (one of 2020’s best films) couched in a fantastic retrospective, and Criterion editions of old favorites.

Fourteen is featured in “Between Us Girls: Bonds Between Women,” which also includes Céline and Julie, The Virgin Suicides, and Yvonne Rainer’s Privilege. Of equal note are Criterion editions for Ghost World, Night of the Hunter, and (just in time for del Toro’s spin) Nightmare Alley—all stacked releases in their own right.

Movie lovers associate actress Margaret Hamilton almost exclusively with her immortal portrayal of the Wicked Witch in the 1939 MGM classic "The Wizard of Oz". However, as writer Veronika Bondarenko points out in a column for Pocket Worthy, there was much more to the woman and her talents. Hamilton was proud of her performance in "Oz" but ultimately resented the fact that her other career achievements were largely ignored by the public and critics. She appeared in such diverse productions as "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer", "13 Ghosts", "My Little Chickadee", "The Red Pony", "Brewster McCloud" and "The Anderson Tapes". She was also a veteran of stage productions and appeared in countless hit TV shows.

Actor Beau Bridges praised his family after his name was cemented on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Several members of the Bridges family made the trip to Hollywood Boulevard for the unveiling on Monday, including his mother Dorothy and younger brother Jeff Bridges, who also has a star on the exclusive pavement.
